I`m looking to buy a few hundred euros before going on holiday. Are most providers much the same or would you recommend one more than others? I see some will give you a lower rate if you`re changing less than £1000.

Get a revolut card mate. You get the proper exchange rate, not the tourist one, and you just load it up and use it as you would a normal debit card.

Or Monzo and just pay in as you need - converts at money market rates. No need for cash for holidays these days especially in eurozone

I have revolt and wise (formerly transfer wise although don’t really use wise these days)
Tend to use them for two purposes, visiting family in Ireland so handy for euros and also as a day to day spending.
Hate using my actual bank account (with all my wages etc) for purchases, especially online.
So move my month spending over to revolt and go from there. Non essential direct debits and spending money through revolut.
It’s a Virtual card, so click off a button and details change and if I’m buying from a shop I’m not sure of, I just create a new temporary card through the app, use it and then close it

If you travel regularly to Spain or the Canaries the best deal is a Santander UK debit card used at a branded Banco Santander ATM - no fees of any kind involved in withdrawing currency.
They’ve now expanded that to include other countries.

Parboiled I remember back in the early 60`s most English shops would not accept a Scottish pound
Blackpool shops would give you 19/6d for the pound

Just noticed a few Monzo recommendations... Just withdraw cash at the airport on arrival. You get the actual exchange rate and no fees.

I`d second Monzo. You can use it abroad at any normal machine or in shop card machines. The app almost immediately tells you what you spent (in Euros and pounds). Note of caution that I think you`re limited to £300 cash withdrawals on the standard monzo cars but it`s unlimited on payments in shops/restaurants etc. They do give 7 days of the premium service but you`d need to time it well.

Was in Tenerife some 4 weeks ago, where there is an ATM just about every 100 metres that all charge for cash withdrawals.
Nearly all the banks are also charging except for one, if you can find a Banca March branch or ATM, no charges for cash withdrawals!

Last I heard Deutches Bank ATMs were also fee free.
See my 08:32 yesterday - Santander is a great choice for Spain/Canaries, as long as you use a fully branded Banco Santander ATM with a Santander UK debit card- such machines are in most locations - and branches in the bigger resorts.
Of course, a so called "user friendly" ATM also needs a no fee card like Starling or Chase (for example) to avoid charges.

"Just noticed a few Monzo recommendations... Just withdraw cash at the airport on arrival. You get the actual exchange rate and no fees."
Isn`t the ATM liable to take a commission ?
Pretty much standard these days - Monzo (or any other card) has no control over that.

My experience in Europe was no fees. You just selected how many euros you wanted (and selected local exchange if appropriate) and it just converted the cost at whatever the exchange rate was on that day in particular.

Same as here some ATM’s charge a few other do not. The big no no is never accept their conversion rate.
There really is no sense in taking cash at all though when everywhere is cashless the same as here so just use the Monzo to transact.

I see that First Direct have recently announced that their debit card will be fee free to use abroad at ATMs and to settle up for goods and services if paying in local currency.
The usual health warning - the ATM may impose a usage fee though.
We were in the Balearics last month - only Banca March and Duetches Bank are fee free machines AFAIK.

Hello Superally, can you remember which bank you went to as my Revolut always charges me commission from the bank in Singapore.

Revolut in Singapore using Maybank has no fees.
Just exchange GBP to SGD (as is the norm in any country) so that you use local currency
Revolt do charge fee if over £200 per month (easy spent in Singapore 🤦♂️)
Heard Monzo good too

£200 monthly limit before fees is not very attractive.
Better with Chase or Starling etc.
