Mrs BPP is using an old iPhone 5
My Granddaughter has an iPhone 7 that we are trying to configure for Mrs BPP
It has been in a drawer for years and no one can mind the user name password or passcode
I tried the recommended restore which worked but when i try and set it up it keeps asking for the owners details user name or passcode etc :-(
Is there a way round this
Any help/advice greatly appreciated as always

Not an iPhone user, but you probably need your granddaughter`s apple ID to login.

Thats the problem fcda .. It is about 8 years old lying in a drawer and no one can remember it
Tried the restore trick thingy but it still says it is locked to another user which would have been my Granddaughter

We had the same issue, managed to sort it with proof of purchase to remove the (original) registered account holder. Talked through the process either over the phone or in one of the stores. Was at least 8 years ago though

I would have thought Apple and/or Argos could identify the original purchaser from the IMEI ?

I`m guessing your granddaugher hasn`t had another iphone or if they did, they used a new apple ID?
I think if they were upgrading, it would be easier to use the same apple ID. If they did, the old phone might still be associated with the account and it might be possible to reset it from there.
If you don`t know the apple ID, you can recover it, if you know the email address used to sign up, and assuming that meaningful (answerable) security questions were also set up.
I think Apple assigns a user@me.com email address with every apple ID so if you don`t know the original email address you can try something in the form:
firstname.lastname@me.com
The chances of success obviously depend on whether your granddaughter set it up with their real name and how unique their name is.

There`s also a link in case you`ve forgotten the apple ID:

Can it not be unlocked/ reset by one of the many wee dodgy phoneshops in the town centre.
My friend had their phone nicked, tracked to a house in Abbey View, so went and chapped the door. Unsurprisingly, the house holder told him that "honestly, he hadn`t found a phone". Then as soon as they left, they got an alert saying the phone was switched off. It wasn`t switched on again until the following afternoon in one of those shops in the Kingsgate, where it promptly disappeared again.
Those guys can work wonders

Its not to unlock from a network R-S-P Its to unlock from the present apple owner
I have been in touch with apple who as suggested on here will need proof of purchase
I have taken on board all the help and now have proof of purchase from Argos
One more phone call to apple Tomorrow should fettle it .. Phew !!
Many thanks to all

I spent an hour on the phone with a guy who had access to my screen vee
The reason it would not send was that i had left the state box empty as i had already entered uk and Edinburgh
Once i put N/A in that box it sent no problem
However apple have decline to unlock it as the argos email receipt was not sufficient proof of purchase they say .. ach weel

What a bummer.
I have a redundant iPhone SE (original model) if it`s on any use - same as I use.
Works fine and What`sApp is still active.
Free to a good home.

I thought it was an iPhone 5 ?
Apple no longer support What`s App on that generation ?
The SE does.

Sorry LA just seen this .. No Apple declined unlock request twice .. as the Argos email receipt is not enough proof of purchase .. We are in Edinburgh soon so I will take it into the Apple shop and see if they can do anything
