 Scottish 1500m World Champion again!

Josh Kerr outraced Ingebrigtsen to win the gold medal after Jake Wightman did it last year. They race for the same club in Embra.

What`s a Twittertwat? Surely you mean an Xtwat if anything.

Why don`t we just celebrate the fact that a guy from `the sick man of Europe`, the country with the highest rate of drug deaths in the continent, has won the blue riband of middle-distance running for the second year in a row?

The reaction on here is underwhelming.

It was a fantastic win and once again Ingerbritson`s weakness to a well timed late attack was brilliantly exploited.

Absolutely mind-blowing achievements by both Jake Wightman (English-born but raised in and competes for Scotland) and Josh Kerr (Scottish-born but trains in USA).
Both men and their families have made huge sacrifices that have finally paid off, and it`s great to see. For UK to win the 1500m twice in a row after a 40-year wait is definitely worth celebrating, especially in the manner they won it and the quality of the opposition.
But I can`t really see the relevance of Scotland`s dreadful health record. There are many great athletes who have come from poor, underdeveloped, unhealthy countries, often by training abroad (like Kerr). The responsibility for poverty, underdevelopment or poor health lies with the governments and society structures involved. But that`s perhaps more proper to the Politics forum! :)

All I was trying to say is that it isn`t all bad news out there but there often seems to be a reluctance to recognise excellence when it happens on your doorstep.

It was fantastic , as good as any win by Steve Cram, Steve Ovett and Seb Coe and think of the publicity that trio had.

Hopefully one of them repeat it next year.Ingebritsen tried to blame losing on a virus which he showed no signs of in his heat.He could barely crack a smile after winning the 5000m.It was good to hear Michael Johnson calling him out on that last night.

Just a couple of weeks after Fifes own Ben Sandilands took title and broke the record for same distance in the Para world champs in Paris.

There was another Scottish medal-winner. Nicole Yeargin, a member of the women`s 4 x 400m bronze medal winning team, qualifies as a Scot as her mother is from Dunfermline. Her father is American.

Ingebritson was very arrogant before the race with his index finger pointing up, indicating that he was number one and after the race had a face like thunder and refused to shake hands.

I get the impression he isn`t very popular with his fellow-athletes. Jake Wightman hinted at this when reviewing this year`s 1500m final.
