This wouldn`t be an issue if the project started in Manchester or Leeds

Tories now also selling off the land (good deal incoming for current or soon to be donors) so it’s guaranteed never to be built.
How do these project end up with such an overspend, I get there’s an element up corruption built in in terms of who gets the contracts and subsequent increase etc but when you take the p*** so much the project gets cancelled surely means these contractors make less overall?

Do we even need fast trains?
Here’s an idea from marketing guru Rory Sutherland:
The upgrade to the Eurostar services cost £6 billion to shave 30 minutes off the journey to Paris. But by spending one billion pounds – still saving £5 billion – they could have employed the world’s top supermodels to walk up and down the train giving out free bottles of Chateau Petrus, and (here’s the real irony) people would have asked the train to slow down.

Alex Salmond in 2013 asked if they would start the project in Carlisle. Then the Scottish Government would fund the link from Scotland to the Northern connection point ( Carlisle)

I`ll answer my own question .. The biggest most expensive .. Ill thought waste of our money in my lifetime .. compulsory purchase .. swathes of beautiful country side demolished .. for absolutely Fek All .. From Aunty :-
The HS2 rail line will not be extended to London Euston unless enough private investment is secured for the project.
If cash is not put forward by private funds, the high-speed line will only run from Birmingham to Old Oak Common in the capital`s western suburbs.
The government has said it is "getting a grip of plans" for Euston, adding there had been two "unaffordable designs" for a "gold-plated" station.
It has cut the number of platforms for high-speed trains from 11 to six.
As part of the now scaled-back proposals, a planned pedestrian tunnel linking Euston station with the nearby Euston Square tube station has also been scrapped.

When they say it`s going to `save` money do they factor in the amount by which it is already over budget?

Major public enquiry required for this. Billions chucked down the train for a vanity project for London with next to no benefit for anyone.
