Grandkids love Minecraft. I overheard one of them saying he needs a headset and mic to play remotely with his friends. His birthday is coming up, so I want to get him a decent kit. He`s 11 years old. I`ll probably get his 8 year old brother a set, too.
I see lots of gaming headsets on Amazon but not sure what kind they need.
They play on phones and tablets.

Worth checking their phones and tablets have headphones jacks. If they don`t then you`ll need a Bluetooth headset. My kids just have cheapo ones from Home Bargains and they work fine still but some kids might want a fancy brand like Turtle Beach. Might be worth sounding them out.

Thanks. I expect the iPad will have a jack, but Bluetooth sounds sensible. I can`t check because they are in Canada, which is why I can`t buy local. It would cost more to post than to buy. I think they are not legal to post anyway.
I`ll check Bluetooth options.

Defo go for the Bluetooth option parrot wired headsets tend to pack in after a while either the headset will go first or the cable will start to split at the jack
As to where to start looking try curry’s first but go into the shop and explain exactly what it is you are after then have a wee look on Amazon you might find the same kit for less than what curry’s are charging

Agree with the above, Amazon or Argos even.
Would strongly suggest Bluetooth, we bought our boy an Xbox for Christmas last year which included a headset with jack and we got it replaced after only a couple of weeks.
You tend to get a lot of static and the sound quality can be brutal.
The amount of times kids that age as well forget the headset is connected to the phone/tablet/console by wire and it ends up getting whacked off the floor…

https://www.tomshardware.com/peripherals/gaming-headsets/best-gaming-headsets and other sites would be where I would start and then check them out physically if required.
Lots of good ones out there now. But kids being kids they`ll need to look cool no doubt!

Always look at the 1 star and non 5 star reviews. I`ve always had issues with turtle beach, mediocre sound quality, don`t last very long. If it`s just for VOIP purposes they should do fine though

Think you`d be better with a traditional over the head style one that covers both ears at their age.
Hyper-X, Arctis and Razer all good brands but that is pushing into silly money in some cases it it`s just for minecraft.
I wouldn`t discount a wired set, as long as device has a 3.5mm audio jack - or you can get an adapter for pennies on ebay - as it`ll do job fine for their age and be a fraction of the cost.
