Subtitles on BBC iPlayer

Does anybody have an insight into accessing subtitles on iPlayer programmes ?

We have a new Samsung telly - when I tried it with catchup on "The Responder" nothing came up on screen, however when I switched back to the terrestial live broadcast the subtitles appeared.

We were having trouble following the mumblings of some in the series with their thick Scouse dialogue much of the time - except when Bernard Hill and Sue Johnston made an appearance.

The subtitles don’t work for me either on my LG telly using the IPlayer app.

They work on the ipad though.

After a search online, I was eventually able to get subtitles on BBC iPlayer - then when we switched back to a regular terrestial live broadcast these disappeared.

It was easy enough to switch them off again on iPlayer.

Our TV is Samsung - not sure if the procedure is the same or similar for other makes/models though.
