"Cleveland Guardians"?, what happened to the Indians?
They had a great run when I was a kid, brilliant pitcher Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn

""Cleveland Guardians"?, what happened to the Indians?"
They bowed to pressure instigated by native Americans to drop the Indians part of the franchise name.
The 1995 WS brought this issue into sharp focus - from Wikipedia.
"The 1995 World Series was also noted for large-scale protests by Native American activists in response to the controversy surrounding both clubs` usage of Native American-themed nicknames, logos and mascots, as well as the use of the tomahawk chop by Braves fans."
The Atlanta Braves have not followed suit and say they have no plans to do so.
In other MLB news - Chicago White Sox recently set a record of 121 loses in the regular season, the worst in the modern era ......since 1901.

Back to first venue if game 5 needed.

Mets are first into the Divisional finals , with some incredible finishes in their 3-1 win over the Phillies.
The grand slam in the 7th innings of the last game was amazing.

Absolutely amazing mate. Was watching in the pub, after the Scotland game, and the only one with an interest in it. When it happened, went tonto and every single person there, turned round to see WTF was going on π
π
and I was like, A FCKIN GRAND SLAM. No one had a clue what I was going on about ππ

It`s called the World Series because of the players involved, not the teams.
Loads of nationalities involved for every team, not just Americans / Canadians (my team is the Blue Jays)!

I always thought it had something to do with the newspaper that sponsored it, when it was started, being called The World or something similar.

I think that`s correct Big T Par.
The biggest name in MLB at present is Japanese - I read somewhere that he`s the highest paid sportsperson on the planet ....... regardless of geographical boundaries.

Yankees with a 8-3 winning record in World series matches
Set in the days when NYY dominated so much that other clubs suggested they should be handicapped ?
It took the Red Sox the best part of a century to get a WS win after they had punted Ruth to the Yankees, the βCurse of the Bambinoβ so called.

I was unclear as to how the bases became loaded after Ohtani was caught out - the highlights quickly glossed over Betts getting to first.
The whole scenario that unfolded in that last inning was a hugh error of judgement by Yankees manager.

There was talk about Freddie Freeman getting dropped from the World Series due to form/injury. The Dodgers be glad stuck with him now. Freddie is a Braves legend, glad he won the World Series with the Braves before he left.

If the Yankees are swept 4-0 in the series there will be a lot of angst among their fanbase.
Even if they do rally, no team has ever come from 3 games down in WS.
The only downside from the Dodgers perspective would not be winning the trophy in their own stadium - and their fans will accept that.
