Sky want to put me up to £46 for a package that delivers average download speeds of 150MB.
I`ve been on the phone to them and the best they can do is £35 and a warning that prices will rise on April 1st
Comparing providers online, I can get similar speeds for two years from a number of providers for between £27-£29.
Sky also come up but it`s only for new customers. So much for loyalty.
Providers that come up are:
Talk Talk
Plus Net
Vodafone
Virgin
BT
I would appreciate hearing about folks` experiences with any of the above
thanks

We’ve had TalkTalk since forever - quite happy with it in general- other opinions may differ.

As Pompey says....so I`m assuming you`re out of contract. If they have whacked it up within contract they`re in breach I suspect.
My personal opinions......
Avoid TTG at all costs.
I suspect BT will be too expensive but might be surprised.
I think VM will be expensive and I don`t think I`ll be surprised
I`m currently with VF (running on the Openreach network and service is good. Support is good but I have limited need to use it).
Plusnet might be a reasonable shout. I`ve used them before. Service and support were good but that was a few years ago and there has been a fair amount of cost savings driven since then.
Remember and see if there are topcashback or equivalent savings to do the like for like.
VF are pushing mobile dual deals too.
Not sure if you`re wanting to keep a landline number but that may impact decision too.

BT and all the others I listed, all have comparable deals for two year - less than £30

I was always happy with the BT service....the network was very reliable in my experience (not Dunfermline admittedly) and any issues were dealt with promptly.

I had Virgin broadband full fibre for a couple of years and couldn`t fault it.(Although the cabinet was right outside my house so that might have been the reason it was so good).
However ... The price went up considerably in they two years and getting in touch with them is an absolute shambles so I left them.
Had EE at the door yesterday touting for business.
Might give them a go .... Are they any good ?

EE is effectively BT widtink. They`ve rebranded their UK Consumer branding to be EE.
Openreach have some proper scale on full fibre now so I suspect the service is getting better all the time.
Suspect it`ll be particularly handy for consolidated deals if EE mobile network coverage is good in your area too.

Go fibre is available in parts of dunfermline. Small independent isp based in edinburgh. We get flyers in the post I think they have decent intro offers.

We`ve had Virgin, Vodafone, Plusnet and Sky.
Virgin were the worst. Not regular outages but I don`t think we`ve ever had any when using firms utilising Openreach lines. Virgin customer service was appalling and they seemed to be forever pumping up prices. The final straw with them was not being able to offer me a free box upgrade despite having been with them for over a decade. Told them where to go after that.
No issues at all with Vodafone, Sky or Plusnet but I`d say Vodafone had a better router and Plusnet the best customer service. We`re up for renewal in a few months and will likely stick with Plusnet unless Gofibre are in the area by then.

Green or brown unless you mean the ones attached to your house. They`re usually white or brown.

We are with Vodafone here in Cowdenbeath, couple of wee connection issues at times but been with them 6 years and not had anything major. Router strength a bit weak with Ring doorbell, but that may be more the building make up (100 plus year old walls).

It will be the walls. Powerlinks, Ethernet cables and boosters make a huge difference in terms of resolving issues that many attribute to a broadband problem (appreciate that hasn`t been done on this thread).

Been with virgin for years and iv not had a single issue with it. Sky was almost non existent. Going by things others are saying it’s just the luck of the draw what you end up with.

I`d also say that Vodafone gave us a better router Jake. I`ve had no issues with Plusnet. My experience of TalkTalk is that they were a right PITA when we had issues with connectivity but otherwise no problem. None of my experiences would put me off just going with the cheapest provider.

I`ve had virgin fibre to the premises for about 3 years now, across two different houses. The speed is absolutely rapid. I can`t really comment on how good the WiFi router is as I have an eero mesh network so coverage is really good everywhere, and half way down the street!
My only criticism of Virgin is that in the two times there have been major (area wide) outrages they have been quite slow to repair them, almost two days one time.
Also despite it being evident that it`s a widespread issue they still dispute this and said they`d `book an engineer`, and add that if it`s in my home there will be a significant charge. I assume they monitor their network and would know if a large number of devices had fallen off it but this info doesn`t get to the call centre.

The altnets are cheap but I`d be careful checking out customer service experience.
The likelihood it`ll all be fine but the commercial strength of some altnets have been significantly impacted by higher interest rates.

It’s a fair point, Ipswich.
Maybe one for Rikki here. I think they use cgnat for their standard fibre. Would you avoid this ?

I had a big issue with Virgin, and Sky several years ago. Both mis-sold max packages to someone with learning difficulties. I explained the situation, and Sky dropped the contract with no quibbles.
Virgin refused to and insisted He pay it in full.
I told them they were not getting a penny, and I looked forward to seeing them in court.
Never heard another word.
Years later, they dug up my lawn and fitted a cable.
It disappeared soon after. No idea what could have happened to it.
