Strange thing for someone to do out of character.
I hope they are both OK.

I find it shocking that there was no custodial sentence.

Out of character? Is that even more concerning? Normally an upstanding member of the community, you suddenly snap and scream "go home" and physically assault a random man.
The guy is a complete halfwit and has done Valleyfield out of a much needed GP. How many will want to join that practice now?

Not having access to the story in detail.
I take it the victim is non white, therefore the attack is racially motivated ?
That would make it doubly unacceptable.

Correct. Completely inconsistent with the legal approach during the summer.
You`ve no doubt missed as well he has been asked to send a letter of apology. Awful trauma for the poor perpetrator to have to go through.

Here you go VEE
“GP QUIT FIFE MEDICAL CENTRE AFTER BEING PUNCHED IN RACIST STREET ATTACK
A GP was beaten up in a racist attack as he left his medical practice.
The doctor, of Pakistani descent, was repeatedly punched and told to “go back to your country” as he went to a nearby shop after his 12-hour shift.
Osama Farooq had only started working at the practice in High Valleyfield two weeks before the incident.
He quit the practice as a result of the assault saying he did not feel safe working there.
His attacker was 19-year-old Lee Dackers and a younger accomplice.
Dackers, of Chapel Street, High Valleyfield, has appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court. He avoided a custodial sentence and was ordered to do unpaid work instead.
He admitted that on 24th April last year at Chapel Street, near to the High Valleyfield Medical Centre, whilst acting with another, he assaulted Osama Farooq by seizing him on the body and repeatedly punching him on the head and body, all to his injury.
He also admitted acting in a racially aggravated manner by shouting, swearing and repeatedly making offensive remarks and threats of violence towards Dr Farooq.
Depute fiscal Amy Robertson said that at around 7pm the doctor had just finished his shift and had gone to a nearby Co-op store to buy items for the journey home.
The doctor heard Dackers making a racist comment as he stood outside the shop.
He told Dackers he was a doctor who had just finished a 12-hour shift at the medical practice.
Dackers said “he couldn’t care less about that, that it was their community and he should go home” added the depute.
Other comments made included, “Go back to your own country. No-one asked you to come here” and “You black P*** b******. Come on, then I’ll f****** knife ye.”
Dackers grabbed the doctor by the waist and began to strike him on the head and body, as did his young companion.
Packers then tried to drag the doctor into a bush, continuing to punch him as he did so.
A Co-op worker came outside to see what was happening and a passer-by shouted to Dackers, “That’s a f****** doctor”.
There was no response from Dackers, who continued to make racist comments.
A female witness handed the doctor his stethoscope which had fallen to the ground during the attack.
Dr Farooq sustained cuts to his abdomen and thigh as well as bruising.
The doctor has since left the practice saying he no longer felt safe in High Valleyfield, added the depute.
The court was told Dackers had been drinking alcohol before the incident.
Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said his client had no previous convictions and the assault was “out of character”.
Sheriff Krista Johnston said the target of the attack was “a person so valuable in the community”.
She told Dackers, “That makes you a disgrace to your community.”
She said he had “narrowly escaped going to detention”.
Instead, she imposed a community payback order with 200 hours of unpaid work and a year’s supervision.
She also ordered Dackers to write a letter of apology to the doctor and bring it to court when his order is reviewed.
It is understood the younger assailant was dealt with through the children’s panel system.
The High Valleyfield medical centre has been plagued with problems in recent years linked to a shortage of GPs.”

Indeed, I have seen this payback in action… couple of hours desultory grass cutting which could have been done in half the time supervised by council worker leaning on his van smoking.

He would probably have been released after serving 40% of his sentence. I wonder if sheriffs consider prison overcrowding when they decide on sentences?

We simply don`t have enough prison spaces. Convicts aren`t even serving their full sentences anymore, that`s not their reduced sentences for good behaviour or pleading guilty, their actual sentence. No room left so 390 will have to be released over the next six weeks. They will be prisoners who were sentenced to no more than four years (I mean to be jailed at all think about what you would of had to have done to get close to four years).....they will only have to have served 40% of that term. Now we could remedy this by building more prisons but that`ll cost us more in tax and look at the pearl clutching at the recent council tax rises.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Maybe a new form of punishment could be allowing locals to punch this idiot in the face every time they can`t get an appointment?
Amazed that racially aggravated assault is only given community service. The community have just lost the services of an experienced GP but will benefit from 200 hours of an idiot who probably isn`t even capable of doing litter picking.

I agree, that should have been time in one of his majesty`s hotels.

He avoided prison by admitting his guilt. A CPO will put him smack bang in the middle of the town and he’ll have to deal with any consequences from that.

Dackers comes from a large, dysfunctional family. A family that doesn`t give a stuff about the law and has no moral compass whatsoever. Dackers himself may not have any previous convictions, but he`s been a troublemaker since he was a small child.
His attack on that poor doctor may/ may not have been racially motivated. He would have been looking for a fight, and the GP was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The victim could just as easily have been white or from any other ethnic background.
That`s not in any way to excuse his vile behaviour. I`m just pointing out that he`s a really bad egg and is a danger to the whole community, not just those from non-Scottish backgrounds. I feel sorry for the GP and also for the people in the village as the practice will inevitably struggle to fill the vacancy and who can blame any doctor who doesn`t fancy it?

Being told to "go back to your country" makes it sound racially motivated to me, potentially.....
Interesting these families. Get them all over unfortunately, and it seems hard to get them to change their behaviour across the generations. I suspect if they didn`t fill that specific gap, that another group would fill the hole.

True. I just meant that the person coming out of the shop could have been of any skin tone. Dackers would have just as likely to target him/her. Probably showing off in front of his younger accomplice.

Kids learn much of their behaviour and moral values from their parents. Dackers` parents are extremely poor role models - not that should be used as an excuse for feral behaviour.

Unfortunately, pond scum like that breed yet more pond scum and it continues down the line generation after generation. I`d hate to be a teacher nowadays with all the entitled thickies who won`t take responsibility for themselves or their kids`behaviour. Idiocracy is becoming a reality.
