Perhaps the economists on here can assist. Presumably that big number is the cumulative trickle-down spend to all the suppliers involved in running this tour. But if the tour didn’t happen, then surely the money that would have been spent on tickets, travel and accommodation would be spent elsewhere in the economy? And so surely that total would need to be removed from that big number, possibly bringing it to near zero? Hmmm. Answers on a postcard.

I suspect a lot of people who have bought tickets would have saved some of that money in their accounts given their skew towards higher age and wealth.
That would have reduced wages for those providing those services (with a large proportion being skewed more towards people on minimum wage I suspect).
Folk travelling to the concerts may not have travelled somewhere else instead.
Without seeing the detail of the analysis it's pretty impossible to determine the analysis and assumptions around whether they wouldn't have spent the money, or spent it somewhere else in the UK or gone abroad.

All good points Ipswich. And i suspect the tour will bring folks into the country, which is like pure cash injection into the UK economy. Still, it’s worth remembering that those big click-bait headline numbers aren’t quite all they seem, with the real “incremental boost” to the economy being far less than the big number.

Absolutely Milos.
Folk looking at the gross rather than the net numbers fills our day in politics, business and marketing in so many ways.
In such a way that fact checking then becomes impossible and those who are intentionally trying to spin their own line done have enough time generally to be corrected. Something that Trump has employed to much success..... the daily random nonsense and untruths are like someone vomiting on the truth meter to the point it doesn`t work any more.
I didn`t go after tickets but I really hope the concerts are amazing. I can`t handle the negative backlash that we`ll all be subjected to if folk feel ripped off and part of their youth has been tarnished a little!

I’ll leave it to others to debate the artistic merits of the tour. Not my bag personally (I would need to be paid the ticket price to attend!), but also hope it is amazing for the folks in attendance.
