Knee Cap have been cancelled at TRNSMT over fears some people (Rangers fans) might have a reaction to their presence and performance.
I`m in favour of limits to free speech in terms of responding to people spreading false information knowingly, but this seems an interesting one as those objecting to Knee Cap seem to be the ones who usually complain about being cancelled (for example Lawrence Fox).
So do we want COMPLETE freedom to say what we want or is it fine having limits?

Its fine to have limits. These guys have been advocating for folk to kill their own MPs if they disagree with them.
All for fighting for independence of your nation etc but after 2 MPs have been murdered in recent years, thats just not acceptable.
Freedom of speech comes with consequences, as it should. If it didn’t have consequences, the place would be a free for all, leading to utter carnage on the streets.

Completely agree, but there seems to be some irony that those who are typically complaining about being silenced for saying and sharing stupid things are advocating the cancelling of someone else because they disagree with them. You can`t pick and choose what rules to follow.

Trump`s the classic example of someone who only wants free speech for those who agree with him.

Yeah the double standards are almost amusing
Unfortunately kneecap have been under pressure ever since they won their legal case and certain people have been waiting for anything they can blow out of proportion, eg one throw away line to be taken out of context.
I suppose it’s nothing new, throughout even my life I’ve seen the same - with newspapers whipping up a storm over bands (their views, behaviour, lyrics) and calling for them to be banned (ice t, beastie boys, rage against the machine, etc) - normally they go on to be celebrated later when we realise there wasn’t anything in it …And the media are getting everyone scared about someone/something else.

This is purely and simply because they called out Israel, nothing to do with any comment about politicians.
On politicians amazing that they have the "strength" to make "difficult decisions" that likely mean deaths, every other day but when the hurty words are pointed at them they turn into simpering messes, all of them, rats.
Tell you what though since the Kneecap thing kicked off, even our media has turned on Israel.
This generation`s Sex Pistols, happy yo argue that point too.
I don`t wanna go down like disco.

Free speech isn’t limitless but I do think the bar is set far too low in this country.
Calls to violence, doxing (including revenge p08n in this) defamation and inciting panic (shouting fire on a plane when there isn’t one) are where I would be looking to hold people accountable.
The whole disinformation, misinformation, mal information stuff is a lot of absolute garbage. Its only use is for government to try and mould public discourse.
It’s worth remembering we arrested 19 year old for posting snoop dog lyrics from her recently killed in a car accident friend’s favourite song in a social media post that was deemed “grossly offensive”.

Free speech simply isn’t acceptable if it comes through influencers.
Actions have consequences and so does free speech.
People are largely sheep and always have been and that’s why it’s dangerous.
Look at the ones calling out the burning of that flat.
That’s as close to intent to murder as you can get.
Doesn’t matter if it’s online or outside the place.
