The old episodes are hilarious. Not for Jim`s jokes, but the fashion from the 70s and the prizes.
State of the art tv complete with teletext.
Commodore computer.
Top of thw range teasmade.
Latest cooking technology,...microwave
Top of the range Walkman..

Questions for a tenner and prize money below £100

Haircuts are phenominal.
I liked the format, especially eliminated couples getting a second chance.

I couldn`t understand the star prizes though.
Holidays and caravans, even boats could be shared, but who gets the car or the three piece suite?

But before my time but I remember things like Strike it Lucky and Generation Game and wondering what people would do with some of the crap. I was always impressed with the games consoles but it`d be followed by "a weekend away in Skegness" or "A complete dinner set" and I`d be thinking "I just want the Playstation!".

I don`t think they really make many of these programmes anymore. The days of families sitting round watching TV together are long gone. Bit of a shame really.

Ye can`t beat a bit of Bully.

I watch the full run every couple of years, even the Dave Spikey ones are quite good.

To be fair, the game shows these days are mainly quizzes with fairly large sums of money at stake. Win a decent Tenable or Chase and you could buy most of the above anyway.

It`s peanuts now in context.

The effort and knowledge to win even something like Pointless or Eggheads to win a grand compared to sticking on Challenge TV channel and seeing things from the 90s like Catchphrase when they were winning a two week carribbean cruise, spending money plus the money they already accumulated during the main game.

In regards to Bullseye i went to a Jim Bowen show a few years before he died, the speedboat was mentioned and he actually said it was common practice if anyone won the star prize they`d then be offered a cash alternative about 70-80% of the value which 9 times out of 10 they always took.

3-2-1 - what a quiz show!!! The clues were hopeless. I wonder if there are any dusty bins kicking around these days

Edit: Yep EBay between 15~30 quid.

"......here`s what you could have won!"

Jim puts the boot in at the end of the show.

i`d went through to watch a filming of wheel of furtune in glasgow when i was young with busload of folk from my mums work as someone in the office was a contestant and it was similar then. Prizes of fridge freezers etc but contestants could say in advance that they would prefer the monetary value of the good instead.
