 Energy Prices
Topic Originator: desparado

Picked up my Wife’s friend ( from London ) in Glasgow today and as we were driving towards Fife she commented on how many wind turbines there were up here then said “ Electricity prices must be really cheap up here “……I nearly skided onto the grass verge, but it seems that even she managed to grasp the association between producing your own energy on your doorstep and being able to keep prices relatively low…well thats how it should work though……right ?
She seemed very surprised when I told her that we pay as much if not more for gas and electricity up here as she does down south. Better together right enough……

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

When I read social media comments about Scottish politics I get the impression folk down South think we`re all junkies and living on benefits paid for by them.

In the south-south they DO. I`ve had contractors come up from London who had all the awful "banter" about Jocks not eating salad and deep fried Mars bars being dinner. They also seem to think we all hate them and that they won`t be safe if people hear their accent. They genuinely live in a bubble and believe everything they read in rags like the Daily Mail.

North of England is different. I think they feel the same way about Westminster as most Scots do.

The Daily Mail is most definitely not aimed at Londoners. They’re considerably more lefty/woke than Scots.

Sounds like you’re the one living in a bubble Jake lad.

My cousin from London was up recently and couldn`t believe that everyone spoke to him when he was down the street.

Just a "hiya", "ye alright" brightened up his day!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

One of the biggest cultural differences in my experience.

That and the use of the c word as a term of endearment.

I don’t understand how people think the C word up here is vile and crude 😂 think its exactly as you say - a term of endearment!

My Dad lives in Bournemouth, a Yorkshireman from birth and lived up here for decades (in armed forces) but think he’s a bit more of the belief that foreigners are here to steal the jobs and benefits. He didn’t speak to kindly of the asylum seekers round his parts.

Liverpool on the other hand seemed much nicer and the people more welcoming.

One thing I dont get though - who has gravy with a fish supper?! And why do they call it a dinner rather than a supper?!

I`m speaking from my own experience. Maybe you`re hanging about the more "creative" Londoners.

Well, London`s population is rather large. I`m sure all of the c10m people don`t all have the same outlook on life and the Scotch.

I’m barely cool enough to hang out with the Daily Mail readers.

Energy prices are based on the global market. Electricity is based on price of gas (which produces most electricity). If the private companies whose infrastructure produces Scotland`s renewable energy were to agree with the government of indy Scotland to sell the energy generated in Scotland to Scotland at "cost" + a premium but less than gas then that would be a good thing, Would those companies agree to it ? Would the Scottish Government not slap taxes on to increase revenue level, defeating the whole argument in the first place ?
Never trust a politician, regardless f the coour of their tie/rosette
