 Bus station violence
Topic Originator: jake89

It seems like every week there`s a story about youth disorder. The most recent is 4 teens beating **** out of two guys in their 50s. Why is nothing done to sort this out? These kids get "charged" but what does that even mean?

Absolutely right. The council, and police and politicians, are skirting around this issue. Someone is going to get seriously hurt,if not already.Get the passes, restricted,to say 5.30 limit.People are linking on social media to cause meet ups to cause trouble. Why can’t the authorities see it? Or is it too anti woke an idea to do anything,to upset a few? I for one, would not go near that place after 6,too many nutters going about. Now that is sad,in my own town.

I did see some cheeky wee sh!tes giving some snash to a couple of older chaps that were having a fag outside the commercial last year, totally mob handed. The old boys ended up leathering them. That was probably a good life lesson for them, hopefully they learned from it

Let me get this right you want to limit passes to 5:30pm because a minority are using them to cause bother so your happy to punish the young people who use their passes to get to part time jobs they have managed to land themselves after school?

Does that mean we should also limit oap’s to 5:30pm for using their passes as well due to a minority of auld pervs who creep young girls out on busses or is that ok because they ain’t knocking lumps out of folk?

Am fed up seeing folk like you suggest a limit on when young folk can use their bus passes because it won’t stop anything all it will do is hold the young people who do use them for what they are meant for back

Not sure what has happened recently whether it be in the town or bus station but noticed the self scan tills at Asda now restrict sales of eggs unless youve been age verified by one of the store staff. clearly an upturn in number of youths buying then to throw at cars/buses/windows.

ASDA have verification on stuff like Doritos now too.

As a minimum, the kids causing bother should have they bus passes cancelled. But we`re talking about violent attacks. That`s NOT normal behaviour and in my eyes requires assessment to understand what`s going on.

Agree with Jake, if someone is being violent and aggressive take their pass off them and ban them from the area...if caught put them in the cells for their parents to pick them up.
The police need to be more pro active in and around the bus station as there could be a fatality if this is not addressed imo.

Taking away bus passes would do nothing about the ones driving all over the greens and fairways of Pitreavie golf club on e-scooters yesterday.

Have to wonder what the parents think they are up to?

When the police confiscate these, do they destroy them? That would send a message to the idiot parents buying them despite the majority being illegal.

There`s definitely something needing done about parents too. Yes, you can`t beat your kid senseless like in the 70s, but you can still cut their pocket money, confiscate their devices and threaten them with being kicked out (if over 16). No-one likes handing out punishment but turning a blind eye while your kid is out assaulting people and damaging property makes you complicit in the act IMO.

No they aren’t destroying them. They generally go to auction and profit goes to charity.

Confiscated and lost bicycles used to go to charity that would distribute to kids that couldn’t afford their own. Last I heard that was stopped in the name of COVID but there are moves to restart

Something needs to be done and it needs to be soon.
I heard it may be those under the age of 16 that have the restrictions imposed as those above 16 may need the pass for work etc but anyone found guilty should have their pass revoked irrespective of age.

Cool now answer my question if you want restrictions on the passes that young people use then you will have no problem with restrictions on the passes OAPs use because let’s face it young girls should be able to go about their business without being harassed by creepy auld men because that’s quite a serious situation as well

There are loads of groups receiving free buses who have a minority needing them confiscated, but this is specifically about the recent escalation in violence amongst young people at Dunfermline bus station. Regardless of age, anyone who is kicking and stamping on someone`s head should be charged with attempted murder. It`s baffling to me that any right-minded person, particularly a child, would find that behaviour to be normal and acceptable.

This isn`t unique to Dunfermline, it`s happening across Scotland.

If you’re found guilty of assault you should have your bus pass removed? Wouldn’t it just be better to go through the relevant process with the police/CPS?

Removing individual rights for individuals feels very communist and it’s a slippery slope.

Get arrested for a pub punch up in your 20’s = no bus pass in your 60’s?

Like all the attempted murder stuff should be dealt with by the police. I doubt removal of bus pass would be a huge deterrent

I don’t think thats what they meant?

Im sure they meant if you commit a crime on the bus, or in the vicinity of a station, you lose the privilege of getting a free bus pass.

Surely that should be a given?

Is the discussion basically proposing the same as a football banning order? Like if you get caught fighting in a park you will receive a banning order if it`s related to football, you could in a similar vain receive a bus ban if your offending is directly related to that.

Obviously for some a bus ban would make a far bigger impact on their personal freedoms than a football ban so it would need to be dealt with carefully, perhaps with allowances for use for certain times/routes where you can present a need even if your due a ban

Bus pass removal for poor behaviour on the bus.

ASBO for poor behaviour in town.

Jail for attempted murder by stamping on a persons head.

As I`ve already said, none of this behaviour is normal. Would a normal, rational person start abusing passengers or the driver on a bus? Would a normal, rational person spend their evenings shouting and threatening people in a bus station? Would a normal, rational person stamp on a random persons head and kick them in the body until unconscious?

I don`t know the ins and outs of the justice world, but my understanding is no-one under 18 in Scotland can be jailed. They instead get put in a secure unit, which sounds a lot to me like jail under a different label. But what`s the punishment if you`re doing daft stuff that needs handled but not serious enough for a secure unit? Fining kids is pointless as they`re skint. Is community service an option? Could misbehaving little twats be sentenced with community service to scrape off all the UB07 and Block 7 stickers around town? Or maybe have them clean the bus station?

Ah so it’s went from restrictions right across the board for young people to just removing passes from offenders it’s funny how the slightest mention of old folk having their passes restricted due to a minority who cause issues has brought that change of tune

That kid is the type they should be using in school as an example. Yes, he wasn`t in prison long, but everyone in Elgin and surrounding areas knows who he is. Every time a check is done on him it`ll show up. The family of that driver will NEVER forget what he did. He`ll live the rest of his life with it hanging over him.

The vast majority of these kids don`t realise that even congregating in big crowds around doors etc will be intimidating for many people. Yes, they are free to do it, but how would they feel if it was their gran or granddad whose blood pressure was going through the roof each time they go to the shops?

I get it, they shouldn’t get a bus pass because they’ve broke the law.

My point is you can’t get to 65 without breaking the law so we should just remove bus passes from OAP’s as well. At least it’ll save the country some money

Millions of citizens with no criminal record for violence (which is the central issue here) at any age.

Unless you classify speeding fines and parking tickets etc. as breaking the law in this context. In which case, Guilty As Charged - take away my bus pass.

Tell us you don’t get it, without telling us you don’t get it…….

More scenes of teens in a group attacking an adult on show at the Vic last night, right in front of the maternity ward. Thing is the only one that may be charged will be the man that defended the sole lassie by dragging one of the teens away who then fell.

Confiscate the free bus pass or ban any paying customer who causes bother on a bus or in the vicinity of a bus station. Age doesn`t matter but the key thing would be the length of the ban.

Do we not have ASBOs anymore? Banning the regular bell ends from the centre of Dunfermline would be a start. If caught, get them on a tag. If caught again, put them in a cell until they can be collected.

Parents must know that their kids are out causing bother. Ignorance isn`t an excuse. I just saw two wee lads flying along Trondheim Parkway on a motorbike with no helmets on. They were just wearing sports wear. Absolute morons. The bike was presumably bought by the parents. I`m sure when they end up involved in an accident we`ll get all sorts of stories about how loved they were etc.

Drivers who act irresponsibly can have their licence revoked - why can’t same principle be applied to anybody with bus pass who behaves in similar manner - regardless of age ?

They are a concession, a privilege granted by the state for a legitimate purpose.

People need to be held responsible for their actions

Yeah it is a bit of a wind up. Only as much as a wind up that someone who’s being done for manslaughter or whatever other serious crime is going to be worried about a free bus pass - I’m not going to murder person X cos I’ll loose my bus pass.
