Guessing Hamilton will be at centre of defence with Fisher and Otoo either side - probably best defensive line up we could hope for, although would have preferred MOH to Moffat as only change.

I wouldn`t go with the BBC formation, they often guess and guess wildly wrong. Sure they`ve had weird line ups in the past (Otoo on the wing, McCann at centre back type thing although maybe not those exact examples).

If he doesn`t grab Hamilton then Hamilton would have got on the end of the cross therefore stopping a goal scoring opportunity. If VAR was there it`s a straight forward one to overturn I`d say.

It’s a stone wall penalty. Fist full of his shirt, stops him getting on the end of the cross. VAR would award that every single time. Need to keep this going second half.. can’t sit in and let them bombard us with crosses which is their only real tactic.

Excellent start and an absolute stone waller with the penalty. We look a bit shaky with Morton`s crossed balls but are playing good football going forward. Hopefully we can keep it up in the second half and not let them back in the game. Chuffed for Moffat getting his first two goals. Hopefully Jakubiak can get off the mark too.

Agree to an extent, we were poor in the 2nd half but they put us under pressure. Still think McCann and Jak don’t really ever look like scoring and deliveries into the box lacking quality doesn’t help.
What this shows is we really need the midfield to chip in with goals if we’re to get points.

Ridculous performance in the second half why oh why do we not kill teams off when we get the chance -Morton should have been buried in the first half.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Away and have a word with yourself, do you honestly think after going 2 nil down, Morton should just let us score more and beat them easier ??
Football really seems to depress you a lot 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He`s right though. We seriously rode our luck in the second half. We played some great stuff but it felt like Morton were there for the taking. Their passing was sloppy and their efforts on goal were easily closed down. They came out fighting in the second half and we looked a bit lost for ideas.

It`s the expectation that some people think we are better than the opposition, we are clearly in this league because of the calibre of player we have for the system our manager plays.
Other teams are allowed to play in a certain that tests our abilities, and Morton did that, but we stood up to test in a way that we did in games last year

None of the strikers look like scoring, at any time, which is a bit of a worry. So midfielders do need to chip in.
McCann really is 10% ability and 90% headless chicken.

Keep McCann away from our defence is all I’d say. Gave a needless corner away with time ticking away and made another mess a minute later.
Very happy with the 3 points though after an excellent 1st half show.

Big result. Team played with alot of resilience 2nd half. Error for the goal but DM made a big save to compensate. It`s going to be a tough league so good result with a makeshift defence.

Can`t blame Mehmet but this game should be dead already.
You can’t be serious ?
He was clearly going for the ball. He can`t stop himself mid-air! Not disputing it being a penalty but he`d committed so just one of those things. Moffat got the goals but Mehmet kept us in it. We shouldn`t begoing backs to the wall against Morton!
The penalty arose from Memhet’s mess of a goal kick.

Folk will always pick on a mistake their least favourite player made and say how it could have cost us the match. Mehmet, for all his heroics, is the one who made a mistake that could have cost us the points but he gets off virtually scot-free.
Considering we were missing two recognised central defenders it was a great performance even if we rode our luck a wee bit. Jakubiak didn`t score but he `made` the opening goal with his physicality. It`s good to have an option like him for games like tonight`s.

It`s a team lacking confidence up front, delighted with Moffat continuing to shoot after missing a few last weekend. Exactly what we need, just still lacking that cutting edge to put teams away. 3 points at Cappielow for the first time in what feels like an eternity, jumping from 8th to 4th with a game in hand after losing three on the bounce sounds like a good Friday to me.

Well we made that hard for ourselves but then the Pars don`t ever do things the easy way !
If Hammy had scored with the diving header the game would have been well and truly out of sight , as others have said Morton were there for the taking but we allowed them plenty space on the wing 2nd half and let them get dangerous crosses in , we did well to defend against a much bigger and physical team , but we should never have been under pressure in the first place as it was all our own doing ! happy to stop the run of defeats and hopefully the win will give the boys the big boost of confidence they need to go on a good run now ! on the plus side we have boys coming back from injury too
Never an easy place to go so Well done Pars !

Excellent start to the first half but a poor second half performance and we nearly undone all the hard work in the first. First of all, main thing is we picked up a vital 3 points and hopefully it will give us confidence going into next week and I seriously believe we can beat Dundee Utd if we eliminate all the daft errors at the back, as Utd would punish us with the chances Morton had. Before all the panic, we should have been 3-0 up. Hamilton should have finished that chance at the corner!
Edwards and Fisher were excellent today but I felt McCann was surprisingly poor. I don`t think he beat his man once today and gave the ball away a few times in bad positions in the last 10 minutes.
We will improve and hopefully Benedictus will be back for next week!

Good result, we were excellent in the first half and we`ll deserved our lead. Second half, Morton were up for it so our lads had to roll up their sleeves and go toe to toe with them - which we did. That`s a good 3 points. Into the play off places now and with a game in hand. You look at the table, and the teams below us, we are better than them. Fine margins between us and the teams above too. We have had to play with a threadbare squad so far with injuries to key players, now they are coming back we should be looking up

Mehmet deserves brickbats and bouquets in equal measure. His second half reflex save was a worldie and he made a couple of other important stops to keep us on top. But his disastrous goal kick with ensuing penalty could have lost us the game. (Actually I think the Morton player dived opportunistically over Mehmet’s legs, but whatever). Also, you sort of realise why he mostly rolls the ball out from the back because few of his long goal kicks ever found a Dunfermline player. And, for me the most concerning thing, is that he seems to be developing the habit of sticking to his goal line instead of coming out and commanding his area - a bit like OFW from a few seasons back. Maybe he’s lost a bit of confidence since coming back from injury and maybe he’ll return to his form of last season in the course of the next few games. I hope so. I like him and he’s a key player for us.

Performance didn`t matter today, it was all about the points. However, that first half was a joy to behold.
Had we had Bene and Breen available, that second half would`ve been far better too - Morton the epitome of a high ball team. But with Hamilton and Fisher in the back 3, it was always going to cause us problems.
Great result. Delighted for Moffat to get his goals. Up to 4th. Happy days!

It was pretty much the same as the home game agaisnt Morton - a good start, 2-0 up, but as they started to have more of the play in the second half we didn`t manage to control the game without the ball and they got back in it at 2-1. Thankfully we managed to hang on, nervy as it was. Huge difference in how we all feel having managed to see it out compared to how it would be if we`d lost a 2-goal lead.
I thought the first half hour was similar to the game against the Rovers in that we played some decent football and were well on top. We didn`t really look any more threatening tonight, the difference was just that we managed to score early. Jakubiak did well to press his man into a half-mistake for the first goal and it was a nice finish near the post.
For the rest of the first half we played some decent stuff but didn`t really look threatening and, for all that Morton were brutal in the first half, they probably carreid more of a threat at 2-0 than we did. Not really a problem at that stage though and we were deservedly ahead at half-time.
Morton were much better after half-time, but it`s still reasonable to be concerned that we didn`t handle it at all well. I`m just not sure we`re good enough on the ball to slow a game down like we tried to do. It worked a few times but more often we just gave the ball away and left ourselves exposed. At one point, Jakubiak did well to get on the ball high up the park, then deliberately slowed it down, looked for a pass inside, made a complete erse of it and left us open to a break that led to a nervy few minutes as they had sevral corners in a row. Of course there was also the ridiculous penalty we gave away after trying to fanny about at the back and slow it down there.
But, after much stress, we held on for what feels like a very big win. And that`s what really matters. Have to say that every time Chris Hamilton has had to come in and play in the middle of a back 3, he`d done well. Got away with one where his lack of height meant a ball skiffed off the top of his head but aside from that he was good and held us together.

A good first half, poor second. We were a bit fortunate to hold on, but unfortunate to lose last Saturday in Kirkcaldy.
We certainly missed the aerial power of Breen and Bene, and Mehmet did make some good saves again but was rather rooted to his line at crosses and at fault for the penalty. It also meant that we couldn`t put either Otoo or Hamilton into midfield and I think we needed more physicality in there. Chalmers and Allan are quite similar, both look to take the ball from the centre backs, look to move it quickly and both of them take corners, but at the moment, Allan is playing better so when we have the option again, I`d like to see him with one of Otoo/Hamilton.
Both Jakubiak and McCann were poor second half as well and didn`t hold up or carry the ball, it doesn`t help that Allan and Chalmers don`t have much pace and don`t run behind the opposition often - although Allan is trying to do this. So we ended up pretty defensive and sitting deep just allowed Morton to punt the ball into our box. Apart from a few runs from Edwards we offered little. Comrie didn`t really get forward at all, all our good stuff came down the left, which was a bit odd, as he was really threatening at Starks Park. Maybe O`Halloran could have come on for him so that he could at least carry the ball forward down the right and get us up the pitch.
Well done to Moffat who was very good again (as he was against Raith) and he proved me wrong with his shooting which was excellent, those moments of quality were worthy of winning the game. Hamilton was excellent in the centre of the 3, Fisher good as normal and Otoo also did well but struggle with some high balls.
Hopefully we have a few more players back next week so McPake has a few more options which we will need if we are to beat United.

I thought the first half was one of our best performances for a while and I agree with mcpake that we were probably at our poorest in the second half. Although the fact we managed to hold on shows the character is still there from last season. Being without Bene as well who is a massive loss in our defence. Our midfield 3 with Hamilton pushing slightly higher in transition was great in the first half we go again next week COYP

As much as we were poor in the second half morton we’re far better than their first half performance. Made the ball stick in dangerous positions and worked some good opportunities out wide.
Massive three point and considering the injuries we’ve had defensively any team would be delighted with that. Believe in time Mcpake will take us to the top

I think the poor performance in the 2nd half was perhaps more of a confidence thing given the age of the team. It was a bit backs to the wall but that was to be expected. Thought we were resilient and only gave away a goal through a goalkeeping error otherwise they wouldn`t have scored and it would have been a comfortable win as the game would have petered out earlier.
It`s a big win with a reduced squad and a confidence booster. As the injured players come back as long as we are in touch with the top end we have a good chance of making the playoffs.

There’s something about winning a televised match that makes you walk a little taller the next day. And a Friday night game means you can enjoy a relatively stress-free weekend.
There can’t have been many quicker Pars goals than the first one – It goes to show that if you shoot, sometimes you score.
Being 2-0 up so early completely changed the character of the game. We could have pressed on for more goals to completely kill it off, or we could have sat back and reasoned – let’s keep possession, make the opposition work and then maybe pick them off later. So we did what we are comfortable with, but never really threatened much.
It’s difficult to see on TV but I thought we were more balanced than against Raith. At Stark’s most of our good play went up the left where we tended to have both Edwards and McCann, with Jakubiak through the middle, leaving Moffat from midfield and Comrie coming in from the right as support – this means a lot of chances fall to Comrie who hasn’t been putting them away. This time there seemed more variety.
Morton gave us so much time on the ball in the first half you did feel we should have taken advantage more, as they would almost certainly be more in our faces in the second half.
Which was what happened. Fortunately we still had a bit of leeway after the faffing about at the back blunder, and we saw the game out this time.
One thing I’ve noticed about this team (and I think Mikey Stewart mentioned it in commentary), is the number of times a defender manages to get some part of his body in the way to block shots. As wee eck sats, we deserved a break.
A big three points – a bad run whilst playing well can easily turn into a worse run when confidence starts to leak.

any win in this league is a good win but when you take in to account a few different factors, it probably is a bigger win than normal.
could argue we needed another centre half regardless of the injuries, gut feeling is we wont be seeing either Benedictus or Breen for a while so we need to find another one from somewhere until January. its too big of a gamble to go until then with what we have imo.

Watching highlights I have got to ask:-
Why is that a penalty ?
Mehmet created the problem but the ball is way past both players when they collide, so hardly preventing a goal scoring opportunity!
Morton player collides with our keeper, making the most of it!

At first it wasn`t clear that the ref had awarded a penalty. In the highlights he runs past the penalty spot and the goals towards the goal line before reappearing. I`m not sure what he was doing.
I wouldn`t have said Mehmet prevented the Morton player from making contact with the ball but any sort of collision in the box seems to be punished now. If the ref thought he had made no reasonable attempt to play the ball shouldn`t he have shown him a red or yellow card? Mehmet seemed so embarrassed by the pass he`d given Hamilton that he didn`t make any protest about the award of a penalty.

But I feel we`re all avoiding the bigger issue here....
The pie issue.
Why was the pie thrown onto the pitch?
Was it in anger ?
Was it in celebration?
Was it accidentally thrown ?
I feel a club statement is needed.

The Chris Hamilton example was nothing to do about how far away the ball was from the action.
It was just a poor refereeing decision that was potentially influenced by the theatrical way Hamilton fell to the ground.

It seems to me that since Mcpakes come in we have been incredibly good at this, it would be interesting if this is something that can be worked on in training? Maybe a case of positioning bodies in the danger areas and working on that

On the blocks it felt like most of them were made by Hamilton who read the game really well and isn’t afraid to get fired in. Hopefully once bene is back we can push Hamilton into the middle with todd and Allen/moffat as that’s defo our best in terms of centre of the park.
Difficult for Hamilton on the penalty, if he doesn’t make a meal of it he doesn’t get it, if he does it looks like he’s at it!
Our strikers need a goal but hard to see how, McCann has reverted back to normal after a wee purple patch and was poor last night and was guilty of multiple mistakes as he tired and Jak never seems to get on the ball in or near the box. Some better balls in from KRH will defo help.

99% sure it would have been given if there was VAR at the game. As I said, it was a poor refeering decision.
Agreed.
Pretty sure Morton would`ve got one too when Hamilton dragged down a Morton player at a corner. Soft, but similar to the claim from Hamilton at the other end.
Jakubiak to score the only goal of the game next week would be lovely.

DbA United have scored every game so far and in most it’s been at least a couple. I’m just hoping we have enough centre half’s fit!

Good to see Moffat using his brain and skil to direct his shots to the side. We`ll done him suspect the others have panicked and ball gone straight keeper, some great football at times, but the team still lives in fear and does not relax and control especially the last ten. But a wins a win and we`ll done. Sadly a single goalscorer does not transform a team, it needs others to take their share.
So very happy but nervous.

They won`t score in every game in a 36 match season. Got to end at some point, no reason why it can`t be Friday.

Your right DBA but given our centre half issues it feels unlikely , i was thinking it’s lined up for a BTTS on the coupon…
