Price it correctly and it will still be a big crowd, we will get some money from the BBC also I would have thought.

You could be right on the money with your suggestion, Dave. Our CEO is no mug. I`m sure he`ll be giving admission prices his careful consideration. 🙂

Do the Pars and the Rovers share the TV fee - ie it doesn`t go into the `pool` to be shared by all clubs?

So, in effect, the clubs whose tie is selected for TV coverage are effectively being penalised? It won`t take many missing fans to swallow up that derisory sum.

Why do the Championship clubs put up with this? When are they going to grow a set and tell the SPFL to do one? The same SPFL that exists to look after the best interests of all its member clubs....

£3.5k! That is rediculous. That really means that if the cost of a ticket was £20, then if any more than 350 people decide to stay at home and watch on TV then both clubs lose out.

I`m sure I remember when we had a televised Cup game with Livingston in the mid 2000s, that a figure of £80k from the TV company was agreed. Whoever arranged that deal at £3.5k needs sacked

It’s the SFA that’s to blame for negotiating the TV deal.

Surely a month before Xmas, with another derby due then as well, both clubs boards will come together and be sensible about this?

Anything more than £18 an adult would be poor IMO. Got to remember that Season Tickets aren’t valid either, so the extra income from those sales would be a boost - pricing higher, on a Friday night, on the telly may push more fans away than bring in.

A great game to attend. With both teams very evenly matched and the wee team having the edge, why would any Pars fan not want to be there? And regardless of the fee level from the BBC a bit of a boost to the confidence to be singled out as the game of the round. Maybe small sign of the good days returning to East End Park.

I`m broke, it`s right before Christmas and have an extremely busy life right now so I`m welcoming it being on the telly. But yeah, given the TV will mean a net loss for the club I`d rather it wasn`t on at all.

My bad, Dave. Still, my point stands. Why did the clubs not throw out this insulting offer when it was put before them? Did they not vote on it? If not, why not and is it legally binding?

Some 20 years ago, the BBC was televising a top flight game on a Sunday afternoon. It was a bit of a disaster for 10 of the 12 SPL clubs (no prizes for guessing who the exceptions were) as the live game invariably featured Celtic or Rangers as the away side. Nevertheless, the BBC paid £50k to the home team and £45k to the visitors. How much would that equate to today?

It was a disaster, though, because attendances for these games were well down on what might be expected. A Pars director at the time told me that the £50k barely covered the loss of gate money as our attendances were usually about 3,000 short of what might normally be expected.

Meanwhile, the Glasgow clubs would pocket a wee bonus of £45k from almost every away game. Money for nothing (and your chicks for free.) ☹️

The TV deals are a joke. I`m sure that the money for the championship games moved to Friday for TV gets put in the "big pot" and split between ass Scottish clubs.

c'mon the pars

Correct - SPFL TV money is all generated into one pot and split based on final league standings from 1st to 42nd over all 4 leagues. Its swings and roundabouts really - Championship clubs must appear something like 4 times each? As per the contract, but League 2 teams wont feature at all - but League 2 teams will receive TV money….

On GGs point - Im not entirely sure, but does the tv money increase per round? Wouldn’t be a shock if certain clubs backed a higher price for later rounds knowing they would have a better chance of advancing…

If you click on the link in kelty par`s post at 21:09 yesterday you`ll see the TV money for each round and the prize money for elimination at each stage of the competition.

Presumably the clubs agreed to this way back at the negotiations stage ? I wonder if DAFC and/or RR dissented and voted no ?

The TV money used to be higher but the SFA decided to award more prize money, especially in the early rounds as it was seen to be fairer than rewarding clubs (and let`s be honest, when it gets to the latter stages we all know the clubs who will be shown - Premier/Viaplay would take Rangers or Celtic v Gala Fairydean even if other ties like Hibs v Hearts or Dundee Utd v Dundee were drawn out) for being on the telly.

I mean imagine Gala Fairydean at home to rangers or celtic, or hibs or hearts for that matter, imagine the revenue that brings for Fairydean, and even better if they shock the whole of scotland by winning, in no way is the tv deal good for anyone in the lower eshelons of scottish football, but that type of tie is perfect for the telly 🤡🤡

Would fund the club for years. And then some.

If we dispatch the wee team, I`d happily take Gala at home next round. About time we put together a cup run.

Premier Sports/Viaplay have taken both Rangers and Celtic games, regardless of who/where they are playing in every round they have been in, every year so far. It’s not what a lot of us want to see, but it’s what happens.

No i agree, i think constantly seeing them 2 is tarnishing scotlands repuation in other parts of the world, i mean there are many derbies in the scotland in lower tiers that are way more entertaining than any old firm ive seen in the past couple years
