 70 league games...
Topic Originator: Bandy

Since the Rangers had a penalty awarded against them.

That feels like an utterly astonishing figure. Is it a record? How many decent penalty shouts have the Rangers had against them in those 70 games...can`t claim to have followed the Premiership at all, but that figure is mindblowing.

Nah, The Rangers have just got a really well-disciplined defence.

I don`t watch Scottish Premier games that often but going by what I have seen, apart from Celtic, the other teams very seldom get into the Rangers penalty area to force a penalty decision.

It`s not really a shock considering the lion share of possesion most games and spend most of the time at the other end of the pitch.

c'mon the pars

In which case you`d expect Celtic to have similar numbers of penalties awarded and conceded, right?

That`ll be a rhetorical question, then? ๐Ÿค”

Celtic have had 3 reds in the Champions League already and no other team has had more than one.

I mean we could go way back...

How many chief executives of the SFA have intervened to purposefully slow down the transfer of a player to Rangers?

I do think Rangers and Celtic get more than their fair share of decisions in their favour. I also think Rangers get more decisions than Celtic do. The stats seem to back that up.

That stat doesnt seem too surprising when you consider that the English Prem already has more reds this season than the entirety of last seasonโ€ฆred cards have increased over all comps since introduction of VAR

Man U and a couple of other clubs actually have 2 in the CL as well now. There has been 17 reds in 80 games and Celtic have 3 of them.

My former team mate and pal, who became a grade 1 referee once ruled out a good Pierre van Hojidonck goal at Fir Park, which enabled Rangers to win the league and later, just to prove he wasn`t biased, sent Rangers captain Richard Gough off at Ibrox. How`s that for courage?

Sending Gough off hardly redressed the loss of a league title, Paralex.

I`m assuming Gough`s red card was fully deserved, in which case your mate was merely doing his job correctly. Who/what would he have needed to fear?

If you`re suggesting Gough didn`t deserve to be sent off, but the ref red carded him just to clear his conscience, that`s dishonest and disgraceful.

Not suggesting anything GG with any seriousness. Just remarking on the pathos of the situation. Maybe he honestly felt both decisions were correct and maybe he just wasn`t a very good referee. My impression was that he did like to stamp his own authority on proceedings and may have been a bit blinkered. And being a Dunfermline supporter in Glasgow, I like to have a laugh at both sides of the OF in equal measure. (I think).

Ah, fair enough, Paralex. I took your post at face value, not realising you were just being flippant. Refs make mistakes all the time - your pal will be no different. As long as these mistakes are honest, there`s no problem. Sometimes, there`s unconscious bias by match officials. They`re only human and, as such, can be influenced by the crowd in making a crucial decision, such as the award of a penalty. A ref is far more likely to award one if 50,000 fans howl for it rather than the incident being met by a stony silence.

My belief is that both Celtic and Rangers get more than their fair share of dodgy decisions and of the two, I think Rangers get more than Celtic, probably because there are more refs with a soft spot for the Ibrox club than their Parkhead rivals. I don`t have any stats to back up my belief, and I`m not suggesting they do it deliberately or dishonesty, but human nature being what it is.....

Just think of the reaction to a controversial penalty award by opposite sets of fans, or even opposing managers. How come they are almost always in complete disagreement?
