Is our Sporting Director/Director of Football around at the moment? Given the importance of recruitment at the moment you’d surely expect him to be around the Club.

I just feel given the situation he should be here. I’ve seen plenty comments slagging McPake and Cook about recruitment but nothing really about Meggle. Also plenty comments about McPake looking exhausted, stressed etc so having his ‘boss’ here to support him is surely a positive?
Zoom has its place but it’s not the answer to everything.

Went backwards? Nope just more of the same. Lack of investment in the team to secure promotion to the Premier League. We might get lucky one day and somebody like with a surname like Khan will buy us as a development club . Otherwise this is the norm for us. Scraping by.
Which is fine. The club are still there. Just not one with any ambition to be a premier league club .

When they took over we were a well established championship club. We were then relegated. We are back but now look like a lower table championship club. So I’d say backwards.

The summer transfer window told me everything….‘missed out on Euan Murray and Bryne. The Germans are not for me, Cook is missing in action. When we can’t compete with the Rovers with double the support there is definitely issues.

Every transfer window will be a balancing act between an immediate impact and future profit. With Otoo, KRH, jakubiak, o halloran, and fisher, on paper it looks to be securing both objectives.
Otoo and fisher are meeting both objectives, the other 3 are falling short due to injuries and fitness,
I wouldn`t say it was a bad window. I`m actually quite pleased with the squad, it`s just the results that`s went south

Would be a lot easier if he actually had some kind of involvement at St Pauli. However, he left his Director of Football role there in 2016.

When they took over we were a well established championship club. We were then relegated. We are back but now look like a lower table championship club. So I’d say backwards.
I wouldn’t say as a club we’ve went backwards seen as we are a club that’s spent almost half of the last decade in league one. We are however back in the championship and have invested significantly off the park as well as paying fees for multiple young talents and re-signed our own best prospects on longer term deals. When was the last time we paid a fee for 3 players in a window? Add to that the experience of O’Halleron and Jak and the two exciting players on loan, in no way was it a bad window.
Minus our injuries this year we would be comfortably in the playoffs and the fact that we are as high as we are is testament to the manager and players playing out of position.
No one could anticipate 12 first team players being out injured with more playing with knocks. It’s virtually unheard of to have a full starting squad out injured.
Never thought I’d see the day the pars would be in a position to own their own facilities and not train down the vida or at a cricket club.
So I cannot agree with you in any way that we’ve gone backwards.

Agree with a lot of your post. But I don’t think we have, or have had at any point, 12 first team players out injured. Right now, I can only think of 9, and we seem to be at our weakest at the moment - don’t think it’s been worse than this at any point.
Comrie
Fisher
Benedictus
Breen
Otoo
Todd
KRH
McCann
Jakubiak
Who have I missed? Not counting young Tod as first team, since we’d be complaining about our small squad if he had to start games. Even with him though, I think that’d only be 10.

Summers had a scan last week (hamstring maybe?) but is playing through it.
Hamilton has a fractured cheek bone and is playing in a mask.
Both may be making the first team but they are far from 100% and if they were the only injured players may be recovering rather than playing on.

Wighton, O`Halloran, Allan and Summers have been mentioned as playing on Friday when not fully fit and Hamilton played with a face mask after ignoring advice to have surgery. Friday was probably our worst result of the season but it was also the weakest team we have been able to field too. Let`s hope we have a few more fit bodies available on Saturday.

I would be surprised to see any injured players back this Saturday. McCann? maybe but think it is too soon, Fisher? Concussion…..I believe the protocol will keep him out for another two weeks but not sure. The rest? I can only hope Otoo is back I would be pleasantly surprised to see any others and at the same time worried that they are being rushed back…..
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

That was clearly countering the "12" players injured - perfectly fine to say "only" in that context.
I`m sure a week ago McPake said that McCann should be fit for.Airdrie but that Friday would be too soon, so I`m assuming he`ll be back. Otoo is a weird one as it happened in the warm up but he was fine to travel on Friday there and didn`t seem to be in much pain or wearing any protective gear? With those two back we might just about be able to put a recognisable team although some players might still need to play with knocks other ailments.

Assuming it`ll be subjective as everyone could manipulate `niggles` to their advantage to get games off if they had a few legit injuries to key players.
Not sure how it would work if it was an actual virus or infectious breakout and you had medical proof. Mind Middlesbrough tried that in the late 90s and it ended up getting them relegated as the FA docked them points.

I`m sure all these players will make the final decision as to whether they play or not and won`t be put under any pressure from the manager, who comes across as quite protective of his players, having suffered some awful injuries himself during his career.
What I don`t agree with is when players are asked to play with painkilling injections. It certainly happened a lot in the past when players were treated little better than cattle. (Pelè famously refused to play with painkillers. He told his club he wanted to know when his body was telling him to stop.) Most clubs now realise that their players are their most valuable resources and treat them accordingly.

Surely that would be covered by the “more playing with knocks” though?
I clearly wasn’t trying to argue that our injury problems aren’t bad - they are. There’s just absolutely no need to exaggerate them, when they’re as bad as they are.

Certainly in the case of Summers the manager said he`s got a knock to his ankle but after having a scan, apparently wouldn`t get any worse hence him playing on.

I`m not a medical expert by any means Bpp but methinks if you continue to play with an injury surely there`s a chance it could get worse.
To be fair to young Summers, he did play the full game and didn`t seem to moan about it, although clearly you could see him struggling.

It`s fairly obvious from McPake`s post-match interview that Summers, and one or two others who played v QP, wouldn`t even have been on the bench if he`d had some other fully fit players to choose from.

My apologies, in my haste I erased the admin year. I knew we were relegated in 2012 and had three seasons in L1, somehow missed the year in the championship in between so worked out we`d won it in 2015.
That said, counting this season as the tenth, the first is 2014/15 so it`s only three.
