 Team for tomorrow
Topic Originator: kelty_par

Will the 2 new boys come straight in? Do we have anyone coming back in from the treatment room? Will we have a full bench?

I`d bring Benjamin in for Chalmers, move Fisher into the middle of the three and push Hamilton up into midfield, then it`s whether Holmes starts or takes his place on the bench. So for me, I`d say:

(3-5-1-1) Mehmet; Benjamin, Fisher, Fagan-Walcott; O`Halloran, Hamilton, Summers, Otoo, Edwards; Moffat; McCann.

Subs: Little, Fenton, Young, Chalmers, Allan, Wighton, T Sutherland, Holmes.

Do you think Benjamin’s a better player than Chalmers?

Hamilton played in midfield last week so it will be Otoo being pushed up into midfield if Benjamin goes into the back three.

The starting line up will be the same as last week, if all are fit, 2 new boys on the bench

It’s a little surprising that some would be prepared to start a young lad they have never seen play over an established player. ?

A little different last week, as we had injuries in that area

Aye, so basically the manager would be saying to the player he dropped "Listen, I`ve never actually seen this lad play, but he has to be better than you." 😀

I`d hope the management team had seen these guys play before signing them!

I`d expect the new guys will be subs.

Yeah, that would be absolutely concerning

"It’s a little surprising that some would be prepared to start a young lad they have never seen play over an established player. ?"

because its Chalmers.

if there are no new injuries which this season is always a big if, same team as last week but 1 from Moffat, Wighton or Holmes depending on how they want to set up.

Otoo has hardly put a foot wrong all season I suspect he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet at LCB, if he wins more in the air and uses his strength more he`ll be off to better things.

I`m very excited for the career he could have.

When he picks up the ball and steps forward it allows the whole team move forward.

Hopefully he`s allowed the freedom and has a chance to do that.

Hamilton in midfield could actually benefit him because he will provide cover in these situations.

I think Otoo’s best position would be left wing back, currently occupied by Edwards

Disagree. Better as a left centre back if you`re playing a back 5. Modern wide centre backs are very forward thinking if played correctly

I`d play Otoo in goals.

Ep.17 of East End Tales is out now with Andrius Skerla

It`s good to have some options. I wonder if Jakubiak could be in the squad? His anticipated return date was 2 Feb. Other imminent returns (assuming on schedule) are Tod (3 Feb), Breen (6 Feb) and Todd (10 Feb).

"Hamilton played in midfield last week so it will be Otoo being pushed up into midfield if Benjamin goes into the back three."

Sorry, yes - I couldn`t remember and Google had it down with Hamilton at the back.

"It’s a little surprising that some would be prepared to start a young lad they have never seen play over an established player. ?"

"because its Chalmers."

Would rather have defenders playing in defence is the main reason. Hamilton has done very well there but it better in midfield and I like Otto as a left centre back where he can almost invert, or in midfield where his energy can drive us forward. Is it because it`s Chalmers? Indirectly I guess it is, although had it been Allan or someone else who I don`t think is as good as Hamilton and Otoo playing last week I`d have said the same thing. Same if Todd was fit, I`d have him in the team but sadly he doesn`t look to be near to return. Also think Morton being the form team and playing mostly a 4-2-3-1 that a bit of extra stability would help and hopefully allow the wingbacks license to get forward and get Moffat and/or Summers ahead of the ball occasionally. Not everything comes down to Chalmers = Good or Chalmers = Bad. Even if I do tend to sit with most of my sizable bum in the latter over the former.

"I think Otoo’s best position would be left wing back, currently occupied by Edwards"

Agree with Andrew above that he`s not suited there. LCB or DM I`d say suit his style and physique pretty well and I think we would lose a lot if he was shunted out wide.

Think he played there once last season. Not his best role. Otoo is a very good player, but he can’t (or won’t) cross a ball. This is the same whether he ends up out wide from his LCB role or his midfield role. If he gets the ball in a wide attacking area, he just won’t cross it for some reason. He’ll turn back and play a pass to someone else instead, he just seems to panic a bit. That’s probably the main reason I would disagree that he’d be best at LWB.

You might hope they had seen them in the flesh and more than once, but we`re not signing these lads on a 2 or 3 year deal, so the likelihood is that they`ve maybe seen a couple of videos of their games. McPake and Mackay will have a much better idea of what they can do once they`ve been training with the squad for a couple of weeks and maybe played some minutes.

Said for a while i`d see Otoo as a left back long term. For such a talented boy and being an absolute unit he`s not got a great leap or brilliant in the air.

How about playing Otoo as an attacking midfielder? I think he`s pretty versatile but I think he would be wasted as a wing back or left back.

It`s a good debate what Otoo`s best position is. I like him in central midfield, he has a good engine and can get stuck in defensively, he likes getting on the ball and moving it quickly, albeit his range of forward passing is a bit limited. He`s shown recently he can shoot. He also works quite well as the left centre back in a 3, where he can bring the ball out of defence and drive forward. He is prone to the odd lapse, can turned/out muscled a bit easily (especially given his size) and he is not as good in the air as you`d expect. At left wing back he could also drive forward, but I agree that his style of play is a bit indirect, he doesn`t look often to drive outside opponents and get in crosses. Let`s see, he`s certainly an asset and still developing!

I think it will be a similar line-up to last Saturday, perhaps Wighton in for Moffat. It doesn`t sound like any of the injured players will be quite ready.

Manager on COWS is saying that all three loanees will be in the squad tomorrow and there`s an update on the injured players. It seems that Bene is ahead of Breen in his recovery and Comrie, Todd and Jakubiak are all back running with Comrie nearest to full fitness.

Assuming no fresh injuries, I don’t think other teams are going to relish playing the Pars in a few weeks. Looking forward to the spring and not just for milder weather.

Its too important a game to go gung ho. Give Benjamin more time to bed in with the group.
Not so fussed about the forward. If he plays and it doesn`t go his way there should be less potential for damage.

Can’t see McPake going with two new guys in a back three. Probably the same back line as last week..

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.
