Why tennis balls? Is it just because they`re relatively harmless?

I saw remote control cars on the pitch at some of the games yesterday.

Cos it takes ages to get them off the pitch

Happened on Friday night in Cologne too. Tennis balls on thr pitch but both sets of fans joined in the chanting.
It`s happening with every game. There's been remote control cars and planes used as well, which was pretty comical.

Saw the cars earlier! How do you smuggle an RC car into a game 🤣

Interesting that one Raymie, I said the same last week though Munich would want a large proportion of the fee they paid back. I’m not sure who would pay that for a 31 year old. Man Utd would have in the past but can’t see it under Ineos. Chelsea might though.

From a letter to the Guardian:
"I have a suspicion that the people lobbing tennis balls onto the pitch at recent German league matches are, in fact, closet fans of the former Bundesliga (regrettably now sixth-tier) team Tennis Borussia Berlin. Expect them to continue kicking up a stink and causing a racket by unleashing thousand of table tennis balls since the club was originally founded in 1902 as Berliner-Tennis-und Ping-Pong-Gesellschaft Borussia” – Adrian Irving.
