Sad news indeed. Hopefully that can help spur the team on to a win tonight, even if its not 10-1

Ep.17 of East End Tales is out now with Andrius Skerla

That`s sad news.

There aren`t many of the 1961 Cup-winning squad left - Cammy Fraser, Alex Smith and Danny McLindon (who played in the first game) from memory.

Very sorry to hear this. I am sure his family may take some comfort in how highly this man was thought of by every true Dunfermline fan.

A real gent and an outstanding wee player in an outstanding Pars team. Famously scored 6 goals from the wing in the 10-1 massacre of Partick Thistle ( may his memory inspire the Pars to another handsome win tonight.) A cup winner in 61 and a goalscorer in the SC final rematch in 1965. Willie Cunningham preferred him to Alex Ferguson and Harry obliged with the opening goal, sadly not enough for the Pars who were the best team in Scotland that season but just missed out on a League and Cup double.

RIP Harry

Harry was the manager in my first ever season supporting the Pars and it was the promotion winning season when we went up at F*lkirk’s expense.
He was already a legend of course but that cemented it in our new generation of fans.

As a young fan, I was fanatical about our history and especially the golden era of the 60’s and would do research and found Harry Melrose to have played a massive part in our success.

RIP Harry and thoughts with family and friends

Really sad news to hear.

I mind having a chat with him some years ago trying to help him locate 4 players from the 1968 cup winning team for the 25th anniversary.

A really decent bloke.

R.I.P.

So sad to hear this news. A very early memory for me, must have been the late 70`s, my dad was coaching a 5 aside team from Castlehill Colliery in the National Coal Board Championships. They made it to the finals down south, no small thanks to a team that Harry put together to give them a workout up at the playing fields at Lynbank Hospital where the pars were training. Pars team included none other than Jim Lieshman who i think was coming back from his leg break at the time.
RIP Harry, thanks for all the memories

Another one here who started (1976) when he was manager. Between his exploits as a player and that Falkirk game in `79 he`ll always be a true club legend.

Very sad, a true Pars legend. 106 goals in 275 games is some record for a centre forward, far less a winger

I`m another who started going as a wee boy in the 70s. Used to go to training sometimes at EEP on a Tuesday and Thursday night and Harry was really good with a few of us, as were the players. Loved a wee game of snooker with guys like Kenny Watson and Kenny Thomson.

Some nice tributes there. Also worth a reminder of this video where he`s interviewed along with 3 of his old team mates. Of all the DAHT videos that Christine has done, this is my favourite of them all.

Excellent tribute from Aberdeen.

I knew Harry had started at Ibrox but didn`t made the breakthrough to regular first team games - however, I didn`t know he was on the periphery for a possible appearance in the 1957 League Cup final - which Rangers fans wish could be airbrushed out of history.

Agreed, for any Pars fan interested in the 1960s this is a must-watch.

Christine has done a wonderful job of creating a lasting oral record of dozens of video interviews with former players etc. The full archive, listed by player, can be accessed here:
