HAMILTON ACADEMICAL ace Kyle MacDonald is in hospital following a serious head injury sustained at the weekend.
Accies` clash with Alloa on Saturday was held up for several minutes after a horror collision between MacDonald and an opponent.
The club have revealed MacDonald has remained in hospital since being admitted and have confirmed he suffered a fractured skull.
However, they do say he`s hoping to be leave today.
Hamilton said: "Kyle remains in hospital where it was confirmed he sustained a fractured skull at Saturday’s match. He is stable and hopes to be out later today.
"We are all supporting him, and he will obviously be out for the near future."

Hope he gets back soon. He was always decent for us despite not playing regularly.
Still remember his shimmy and perfect cross in for Lewis McCann to score the winner up at Kelty on Christmas eve 2022.

Dreadful misfortune for Kyle, I hope he makes a full recovery.
Loads of players at all levels at all clubs pick up serious injuries, some of them life-changing. Maybe as fans we should all reflect that these young men put their own health and wellbeing on the line in a way that very few of us have to do in our daily work, and they deserve our thanks, even when our team plays badly or loses. To misquote Jock Stein "Football without footballers is nothing".

And his fantastic run down the right wing to set up Wightons goal at Edinburgh City.
Get well soon Kyle.
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Very sorry to read this.
Whilst I don`t know him personally, I know several people at EEP who spoke of him very highly.
I also loved the way he played his football: determined and whole-hearted.
All good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Upsetting to hear about this.
Hope you recovers well and is back on the pitch soon.
I thought Kyle did really well last season with us and I was always surprised he didn`t start more often.
Similar player to Edwards imo and always gave us a shift.

I too wish Kyle a speedy and full recovery but is he likely to see the good wishes on this thread?
Sending such messages to former players is a thoughtful gesture but we rarely (if ever) send similar messages to our current players when they suffer a serious injury and there have been plenty of them this season. I can`t think of an explanation for this.

A fractured skull is more emotive than a thigh strain or a hamstring tear.

I love it when we go sell Kevin Nisbet,

My husband’s an Accies fan and tells me Kyle’s been playing brilliantly in the centre of midfield all season. He was at the game on Saturday and said the impact noise from the head clash could be heard in the stands (horrible) and Kyle was treated on the pitch for several minutes before being taken straight to hospital. Very pleased he’s recovering but he might be out for a while.

Years ago a laddie that my mother had taught in Primary tragically died after an accidental head knock playing football.
The worst kind of injury that a player of any age could suffer sadly.
Not forgetting the tragedy of the Celtic goalkeeper, John Thomson.
