Pars are playing well. Looking composed with some exquisite passing play. We are pressing effectively and winning most of the midfield tussles. A couple of good chances so far.

Should have scored at least twice, just hope that doesn`t come back to bite us. McCann, Todd, Kane and Moffat all looking sharp and causing problems. Will be looking forward to seeing the highlights tomorrow to review that penalty shout. Looked like it might have been off an arm or two but he may have had his arms tucked in?

Wonder if we`ll be able to make Kane`s move permanent in the summer? He`s levels above our other striking options. Goes without saying keeping Todd and keeping him fit would be great too.

HT: An impressive half from the Pars. Everybody is contributing. I like the way Welch-Hayes and Moffat are combining on the right, and the work of McCann, Todd and Otto on the left is really opening up opportunities. Defence is solid - 4 works so much better. Allen`s corners are fabulous, full of variety. What more is there to say? That`s very good, Pars. Keep it up!

Oh yes... it`s great to hear the choir in the NW back in full song, supporting the team.

Need to to keep at it I`m the second half and put this game to bed!

Inverness form doing us a solid today and just need airdrie to find an equaliser and we`re into 5th. All said easier on paper but it seems we`re turning a corner and the other results are going our way.

Important win given how tight it is, say what you like about 10 team leagues but as a Football fan I’d hate to be one of those mid-table sides in England where from January onwards you’ve nothing to play for.

Crazy Buffy, we were at one time 9th as the results were going ,we have a game in hand on three of the teams below us .Thought our defence were excellent would be hard to drop anyone to fit in Bene ,what a good position to be in

Thought Welch-Hayes was absolutely dominant. Totally bossed it. Never looked in threat at any time. You could have gave MOTM to a good few of those players, but I was particularly impressed with him.

Yeah, Al, I thought the same as you five minutes after I typed that and saw Joe Chalmers save our bacon.

:)

I was thinking of a game a while back where we brought three subs on and completely lost our rhythm. Fortunately, everything seemed to click today.

Good performance. The back 4 were all excellent, credit to Paul Allan too who had a good game and offers up great set pieces. Hard to pick a MOM but probably Hamilton or Welch-Hayes for me.

And two clean sheets in a row.

It`s good to see us have a strong bench for what seems like the first time this season.

I thought we nullified the likes of Dowds, Chalmers and Murphy really well.

Shouts for Miles and Malachi as MOM but Hamilton is a giant in our team.

Very good first half, very solid second, apart from Otoo`s mistake early in the second and a few corners in injury time, we never looked in danger. The referee was good I thought, I think his one big mistake was in our favour, it didn`t look like a foul on Hamilton in the first half when Dowds (I think) was through. So a few things are starting to go in our favour now, and nice for us to score from a corner and a defensive blunder.

Hard to choose MOM, perhaps Hamilton, although all the back four were really good. I`d have Allan after him, he was excellent in the middle. Moffat did pretty well on the right wing, especially on that surface and Kane and Todd make us much more of a threat down the middle.

A much needed home win, no reason why we can`t follow it up on Tuesday.

2-0 up and well deserved at HT, game managed the SH really well.

Good all round team performance never looked in trouble.

It’s very tight but keep playing like that & we should be okay. No room for complacency.

What a crazy league this is - great win today and now 4 unbeaten but still just 2 points clear of second bottom. Whole back 4 were fab today - the other 3 have all had well deserved mentions but Edwards was excellent as well.

Otto didn’t have his best game but we look so much more solid with him in the midfield (barring his nightmare at the start of the second half).

Great to see Kane getting on the scoresheet.

Despite the reservations of some I think the loan players we have brought in have strengthened the team. Kane up front has taken the pressure off the defence giving them options to play the ball out from the back. The team is improving with every game Bourne out by the results we have had. Back to winning ways at an important stage in the season

Hamilton is by far our most valuable asset as of performances this year. I hope we have him tied down.

Fagan Walcott was solid although thought Ayr would have improved second half. Good to see we didn`t risk bene today as there is no point risking someone who has been out so long.

Wish we had more of a go second half as there was probably more goals for us with that donkey in goals for them.

c'mon the pars

First half hour thought we were decent created a few good chances then for 10 minutes we lost control a wee bit.

The timing of the goals was massive couldn`t have been any better.

Second half I thought bar one or two chances for Ayr we were comfortable.

Player wise thought the goalie and back 4 played well.

Midfield had energy and I liked the way Moffat got the ball and his first thought was to go forward.

Kane work rate causes any defence a problem good to see him scoring.

My only negative McCann think recently He`s been poor think he could do with a wee stint on the bench

A much more solid performance today. Albeit one of these games where a goal could have came out of the blue and changed the course of the game.
I thought Hamilton was excellent again and Malachi was very good alongside him.
Plaudits to Kane for his goal and workrate.

I thought he might have left out McCann and played Moffat on the left with Todd at RWB but Todd has such a major influence through the middle it was right to keep him there.

Good performance, thought we started bright then drifted a bit and we resorted to
Long balls to mccann who wasn’t anywhere near winning any of them, not sure how Walcott missed that chance at the back post.

Hamiltons goal was a vital breakthrough at the perfect time. Great gamble by Kane to close the defender down and showed composure we have rarely seen upfront this season.

Second half was a bit of a non event where we managed the game out relatively well with a few scares but never looked like scoring on the break and we tired after putting so much into the first half.

Team looked okay today, I thought we looked a wee bit weak in the tackle at times particular down Moffat and the welch hayes which lead to them playing a lot of cross balls into that area but nothing came of it.

Bene on the bench was a bonus, looking forward to him coming in and Hamilton moving further forward.

Man of the match was Hamilton yet again…

Best performance at home this season. I’m glad to see Moffat finally get a start and he had an excellent opening half. The formation change massively benefits us as we look a lot stronger in defence and are finally creating chances up top as we have natural width and a top class striker. Hopefully we can sign Kane and MFW on permanent deals in the summer.

We have another important game on Tuesday that we desperately need to win to create some breathing space from the relegation playoffs. This league is insane. 5 points off the promotion playoffs and 2 points of the relegation one! Airdrie will be a very tough game but at least we can go into it with confidence. We’re not out of the woods yet but I thought Ayr would cause us a lot of problems today however we completely out played them in the first half and it’s great to see us finally do this to a team in the championship. We mastered the basics today and Ayr struggled with us quickly closing them down, which lead to our second goal.

That’s 4 games unbeaten now and we have injured players starting to return. It was great to see Bene back on the bench but even better to see we didn’t need to bring him on, which gives him a bit longer to recover.

That`s a great win, and no doubt we deserved the points today. Was that Paul Allan`s best game for us? A very good game from him in both defence and attack.

It started out as a decent game with both sides looking capable of scoring, but we got on top quickly and played well in the first half. What a diffrence to just see us do the basics right, and play simple football to get us on the ball in the opposition half. Hopefully we`ve seen the last of the passy rubbish for this year. In the end, the goals didn`t come from any great play, but maybe an example of pressure eventually leading to goals. It doesn`t always work, but keep making a defence do some defending and there`s always a chance something can come from it.

Really enjoyed Chris Kane`s goal - a bad mistake to let him in but he forced the mistake himself and still had a lot to do with what was a very good finish.

For the second half, I can`t quite decide if we were good defensively as a team or a complete shambles. Mainly the positive side I think, but there were times when we were all over the place and I`ve rarely seen two of our players go for the same ball as often as happened today. For a while, it seemed that nearly every mistake we made was leading to a goal, so thankfully we got away with that one at the start of the second half today. We didn`t get any time to play in the second half, but often seemed to want to slow things down a bit too much when we had the chance to break. But, overall, the back 4 had a very good second half.

I was a bit wary when we put 3 subs on at the same time near the end, as sometimes a drastic change to the team takes a while to settle. It worked OK though, with Chalmers having two big moments near the end, winning a critical header then clearing off the line. Of all the players we have, Ben Summers would probably be the last I`d want to put into that situation where we need the whole team to work defensively, but he did fine and helped get us up the park a couple of times late in the game.

Very pleased that we managed to see it out without losing a goal, which was a good effort from them all. And if we can find a way to use our tattie field to our advantage beofre pitches start to recover in late March, all the better.

Agreed. We were worth a few more goals that day.

I’d definitely agree that the Morton game (3-1) was better than today.
We had seven loan players in our squad today. I’d sign Moffat. Kane is definitely a lot more useful than wighton. I agree Welch Hayes looks ok. Otoo is growing into a very good signing. Be good to see summers play a few more games to the standards he’s capable of.

More people happy to comment when we lose as opposed to when we win - ‘fans’ forum? To be fair, someone started a thread moaning about the pies…

Staying positive, McCann was doing some good work down the left in the first half, overlapping with Todd and Otto. They were successfully exploiting Ayr`s defence and frequently breaking into the penalty area. McCann`s final ball tends to let him down. And also on the plus side, he popped up in defence to make some effective tackles and interceptions. He seems to tire after about an hour and lose concentration, but that is probably due to amount of ground he covers and the effort he puts in.

Tremendous result. Performance was good. Started off really well. Could/should have been 2 or 3 up but then fell out of it until we scored. 2nd goal came at the perfect time.

The second half was OK. Thought we got lucky a couple of times but in the main we managed it quite well.

3 points on Tuesday and suddenly we`re on a good run of form!

Da no 1 your summary of the game above isn’t that far away from mine to be honest.

On McCann, I Know there was a bit of a wind yesterday but he seemed to be beating himself for the headers by mistiming his jump. Got into some great positions on the overlap and in the box but as ever the end product just isn’t there despite the endeavour. It’s one of our weaker positions on the left midfield and one I’m sure will be addressed in the summer now mcpake seems to have found a better tactic to give more dynamism in midfield as we look like creating chances.

Also noted at times we have a tendency to head clearances too central and not far enough away, loads of headers from their crosses landing central just outside the penalty box, we got away with it though.

Feels like the way other results have gone that despite us turning a corner we’re still uncomfortably in the mix near the bottom, win against airdrie and it will give us some breathing space with a run of harder games to come.

Arbroath will be sick that effectively that result against raith meant nothing in terms of catching those directly above!

You make a good point, too, Ross. Morton were joint bottom at the time, and I didn`t realise they had 9 of their first team squad unavailable that day and we dominated them for the whole 90 mins - it could easily have been 5 or 6. Unfortunately for us, the boot was on the other foot when they came calling again last month. 🤥

Not taking away anything from yesterday`s win as we deserved our halftime lead, but we weren`t dominant after the break but saw the game out reasonably comfortably. Had Ayr managed to nick a goal, it would have made for a very nervy finish, I reckon. 😱

Morton game was our best performance this season, albeit against a team that was decimated with injuries. Ian Wilson, our former player came on at right back and even he was limping after 5 minutes!

A good performance overall from the full team. I think it makes a big difference when we have most of the starters playing in their preferred positions.
Back 4 were solid, think Hamilton organises well and MFW has settled in better now and has found his feet. Right back looked good as well.
Makes such a difference having Otoo and especially Todd in the middle - Todd`s runs in behind will cause mayhem for a lot of defences! Moffat looked lively out on the wing as well, by far his best position and Kane leads the line better than any other striker we`ve had up top this season. Overall, a good performance that we can hopefully take into Tuesday night.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Bene is back? Hamilton into CDM and Allan drops out?

At least we’re debating positives things GG!

I’d like to add as well that Paul Allan deserves a lot of credit with how he’s performed since the Partick game. I’ll admit that I didn’t think he had what it takes to play at this level but it seems to be more based on who he plays with. He’s looks much more effective playing with Otoo and Todd in the midfield. Hopefully he can keep improving. I always thought the obvious choice in the next few weeks was to move Hamilton into midfield in place of Allan so Bene can return to defence, but it would be very harsh to drop Paul Allan based on his last few games for us.

That was almost remarkably unremarkable – just a normal mid-table game with the home side winning. We could do with a couple more of those.

I thought we were OK for 40 minutes – not great but OK – much better than some of the rubbish we’ve seen – we got the ball forward quickly, created a couple of chances. Moffatt and Todd were looking bright. Normally you’d think that 0-0 at HT but shooting into the home end in the second half might be a cause for optimism, but we were playing the wrong way.

Getting the goal when we did was at a nice time to get it – getting the second (I confess I’d looked away so I missed the build up) was a real bonus.

The second half was a bit dull – but we looked fairly comfortable, riding our luck a couple of times. Two nil is an awkward score – do you stick with what you have, or do you keep looking for a third and risk conceding? I expected Ayr to make it more awkward than they did – they must have known confidence was shaky and we could be vulnerable to pressure but I didn’t sense this in their play.

There was an oddity with the indirect free-kick – the keeper was looking for a quick throw, changed his mind and the ball slipped out of his grasp. His instinct was to chase and grab it, which he did. I thought he’d grabbed it outside the box, but the lino didn’t flag – instead the ref correctly awarded an indirect free-kick just inside the box. I had to check up on the law; that doesn’t happen very often but the ref at least was on the ball. Of course, the kick never came to anything.

Suddenly we look a lot more like a football team. Kane causes problems, Todd is a goal threat, MFW has found his feet and MWH looks solid. I think this takes the pressure off the others a little and they can play their own games. And the bench looks pretty strong all of a sudden with lots of options. What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

Paul was excellent yesterday - he`s always been a neat and tidy player. I think he and Joe Chalmers are perhaps too similar to play together. Having Ewan and Matty in midfield was bound to help him. I`m sure Joe would also improve playing with those two and maybe Hamilton, too, once we have the likes of Bene, Breen and Fisher available to play at the back.
