Would it be more attacking if he had all the bench strikers on? Not really as it`s just more players who can`t score goals.

Same starting team as v Rovers - remind me how that went again? 🤔

Paul Allan and Owen Moffat must be wondering what they have done wrong 😂

Yes, Welch Hayes was the right sided centre back in a 3. It`s the same 3-4-2-1, we played quite well for an hour but didn`t score.

Really well worked goal, finally some end product from jakubiak and a wee bit of quality from the ball back in from KRH and another quality finish from Todd.

Todd now joint top league scorer for us with 4.

Todd’s the best finisher at the club by a mile, whats up for debate is does he have the other aspects covered in the middle of the park at this level.

Mind you if he’s scoring goals we wont care.

Jak has fantastic pace and quick thinking tonight. Letting Dundee Utd come into it a bit too much but if he gets the ball then he`s either scoring or setting up a shot. Great to see two of our comeback lads get goals.

Not a fan of mehmet but nothing he could do at that goal.

Have shown tonight there’s the makings of a good first 11 for us, not convinced on any of the subs tho as we’ve drifted out of the game I guess that’s why they were benched.

That first half was excellent. We’ve lacked bite in central midfield all season but felt like we were winning everything in there first half. Jakubiak was brilliant, had his usual top hold up play but actually had players to offload it to in KRH and Todd.
Second half we struggled a bit more without Hamilton in midfield and as Todd tired but we defended really well bar a couple of shaky moments.
Excited for the end of the season especially if Kane is back soon too

Hats of to Jak tonight. That`s the sort of performance he is capable of. Solid in defence and lost an unlucky goal. Good professional performance all around the Park. We made Dundee Utd look average I thought. Just shows what the squad can do. Clinical finishing elevates the team to their real potential. Great to see Todd and KRH scoring after long injuries. I feel the tide has turned for the rest of the season.

Wow! Never saw that coming. Fantastic result and that will hopefully boost the confidence and belief of some players. We finally managed to take our chances! I cannot fault anyone tonight, they all done their bit and should be proud. Only downside was the goal we conceded. We switched off for a split second but the defence put in an excellent shift apart from that.

Big praise for Jakubiak, Ritchie-Hosler and Fagan-Walcott tonight. I would say they twere the best in the pitch. Hopefully we can keep Walcott in the summer. Him and Benedictus would be tough to break down next season!

Hopefully the results go our way tomorrow and we can finally pull away from the danger. Next week will be a tough game but if we play like tonight, we’re more than capable of getting a result.

Delighted for the squad tonight, finally you see the potential of this team when Bene, Todd and KRH are all playing together and up to speed. That`s nothing against the other guys who played tonight (including Jakubiak who was on another level), but they are such pivotal players for the club. It`d be absolutely brilliant to go on a wee run to the end of the season.

So many stand-out performances but MOTM has to be Jakubiak, that is the best game he has had with us, was sensational tonight.

Not finishing with a clean sheet was a bit of a sore one, Paul Allan hopefully learns from that and next time takes the yellow for the team.

They’ve set the bar and shown what they can do now and roll on Morton!

What a difference when we play with a bit of intensity and get in people`s faces! When we are passive we can be dreadful but this is more like it - the best performances of both last season and this have been when we`ve been proactive rather than reactive and we`ve used our pace effectively. Lots of positives to build on, and if we can get Kane and the others back fit then relegation and the "bad" playoff can be forgotten about. Still a tall order to grab 4th but it`s a bit closer after tonight and this league is so crazy that anything can happen.

In terms of individuals, I thought Fagan-Walcott dealt well with their threats especially in the first half, Todd`s energy was very important and he obviously got the ball rolling with the first goal and then the two best players on the park, Jakubiak and Ritchie-Hosler. Both put in a power of work but had the extra quality to make it worthwhile rather than a lost cause. For them, wow... Hard to believe Declan Gallagher was in the Scotland team and playing well at that level only a few years ago. That third goal in particular was schoolboy stuff with three players running to the ball and nobody watching KRH. Glad Tony Watt got nothing too. Him and Sibbald are very unlikeable. And as for their manager. Chortle.

A composed, brilliant performance with the only blemish being that really poor goal conceded (Mehmet is really rooted to his line all the time isn`t he?). Jakubiak and Richie-Hossler absolutely brilliant.

Smart management from McPake to take Hamilton off at the break. This season is about staying in the middle of the pack and regrouping so we haven`t been putting in enough solid performances to comment on individuals but, in spite of his brilliant goal, I`d love to see more from Matty Todd. He`s a difference maker but he can go missing for long spells. I`m looking far too much into that when we should be celebrating a great win. Am I alone in thinking that about him, though?

Funny game, fitba. On Saturday we were having slightly the better of a pretty dull game but were 2-0 down after the opposition had two chances while we struggled to be a serious threat. Tonight, the game was played in our half but we managed to get 2-0 up from rare openings in their half. Both pretty simple goals, but Jakubiak did really well at the first.

So many times recently, we`ve had games where it feels that the other team score with just about every chance they make. That didn`t happen tonight and we got away with a few, the header past the post early in teh second half in particular. Third goal was beautiful to work the space and a very good finish. Despite scoring the second and playing the last pass for the first, I don`t think Hosler had that great a first half and wasted a number of position on the right. Some much better stuff from him in the second half. I disagree wtih Raymie about defensive responsibilities - the main reason he became so effective in the second half of last season was because he became effective at getting back and doing defensive work while also having ability in attack. In a team that`s been struggling as we have, you simply don`t have room for anyone to have no defensive esponsibility at all. In my view, every player in the team has to contribute in both defence and attack, though the balance obviously shifts a bit from player to player.

It leads onto the main reason Ben Summers has struggled a bit. I think he`d do better in a better side where he`s free to think about attacking more, but that just isn`t possible for us. It`s similar to the Mochrie problem last year where, despite obviously being encouraged to think of defending too, it`s just completely unnatural for him.

I`m a bit surprised as some of the comments above about Chris Hamilton not being on it tonight. I thought he did OK and was involved in most of the things you`d expect. However, he was in danger of getting sent off, and the one where he went down with the ref giving us the free kick looked to me that it might have gone the other way with a possible second booking. So probably the right decision to take him off just for that reason.

The double sub at the end felt a bit risky. Even with a 3-0 lead, we were still under heavy pressure and having to defend a lot as the game hadn`t yet died. Sam Fisher obviously struggled to immediately get up to speed and after losing a goal immediately with another near thing later on, it was a bit of a nervous finish and I`m not sure it was sensible to make quite such a drastic change to a defence. Howver, thankfully we managed to get through it and win the game.

I don`t much like Friday games and they`re awful when you lose then have to wait on evryone else playing the next day. But, when you win, it`s actually a nice feeling to have a weekend without having to worry. Good win, and well done to them for seeing it through.

Just watched the `goal wrap` on BBC Sport. Superbly worked goals for us. I think it`s harsh to blame Mehmet for theirs.

Jakubiak has been promising a performance like that and tonight everything seemed to click. He must be hard to play against as he has a good touch, is as strong as an ox and has a good turn of speed.

KRH is a special talent. He has such awareness of what`s going on around him and where his team-mates are. As soon as he gets the ball he knows what he`s going to do. I`m sure he`ll go on to play at a higher level and we might make a few quid from him.

MFW has been a real find although JMcP obviously knew him from his short spell at Dundee and probably had no doubts about his ability.

It was a pleasure to be there tonight and there aren`t many games at EEP you could say that about this season.

As a senior Pars fan, I always tell myself it`s only a game and try not to get too down after a poor result. Similarly, I try not to get carried away by a good performance and result, but I was walking on air on my way home last night, and I`m still in the clouds this morning. 😀
Schadenfreude is not the most noble of sentiments, but I can`t deny that watching the East Stand emptying after our 3rd goal induced a perverse pleasure from my head to my toes.

I don`t agree with those who think United are a poor team - they`re top of the league on merit. We made them look poor on the night, which is quite different. We had no failures, but special mentions to Jakubiak (also my MOM) KRH, MFW, Bene and Todd. Training will be buzzing next week and hopefully, the players can take that feel good factor to Cappielow next week and get a positive result - we owe Morton one.

As others have said above, last night shows what this team and manager are capable of achieving when he has most of his key players available. I make no apology for repeating that when we last played Morton at EEP, there were TEN players sitting a few rows in front of me and at least 6 or 7 of them would have been either starting or on the bench had they been fit. Ironically, when we beat Morton 3-1 going on 4 or 5, in the earlier game at EEP, Morton had NINE players out and were rooted to the bottom of the table. When these players started to return, their results improved dramatically and they shot up the league.

Let`s hope the "McPake Out" lobby will now be permanently silenced. 🤫

I thought we were the better team all over the park. I don`t agree that Utd were poor as some of the commentary team were saying. I think we were just better than them. You can only play as well as the other team let you. Defensively we were very solid and in midfield we were creative going forward and closed down very well when we had to defend. The movement up front was much better and 3 very well taken goals. I didn`t think that Utd were poor defensively I thought we created chances and stretched them. Jak was superb tonight and pulled their defence all over the place. He`s a frustrating player because you can see what he is capable of. Well done to everyone who played last night. Cometh the hour cometh the man as they say. Great win but more importantly two games where we have been the better side against the top two teams.

Shows the difference when we take our chances. Based on performances there isn`t a lot of difference from top to 9th with only Arbroath looking below the rest.

Said it last week, the difference in the Raith game is they had guys who could finish a chance and we didn`t. That changed tonight and hopefully we can take this into the remaining games. As mentioned above getting the first goal is massive in this league.

On the idea of United being poor or not...

I think tactically they were poor - for some reason Goodwin changed from his usual 4-4-1-1 to a 4-3-3 presumably since we normally play narrow in midfield but it ended up meaning our wide players (KRH on the right, Edwards on the left and Jakubiak on the left when he drifted across there) had a lot of time and space. Their front three also didn`t work well together (not sure how often they play together) so when they did get forward there was no cohesion.

I think it`s very hard to argue that defensively they weren`t poor - for seasoned defenders (including someone who was a starter for Scotland only a couple of years ago) their awareness and positioning was as bad as I`ve seen all season. First goal - the centre back doesn`t realise Todd is there and goes to the near post instead of cutting off the cut back. Second goal, nobody alive to the ball at the edge of the box. Third goal, three defenders all run to the ball leaving KRH on his own 15 yards out. Those are all very basic errors and had we made those mistakes then our players would be getting chewed out here.

None of that goes to say that we didn`t play well - we did - or thst United aren`t top on merit. But we`ve played them 4 times in the league and have a win, a loss and 2 draws and in each game we`ve more than matched them. The Rovers have won all 4 in the league and despite the games being pretty close, we`ve never really laid a glove on them. I still think United will win the league but it looks a lot like a Killie vs Arbroath or a Dundee vs Queens Park situation where they will stumble over the line because the other side can`t quite keep up the late winners etc they`d previously enjoyed.

Tremendous performance and result. I was never not going to go last night but wasn`t exactly fired up for it but with the Pars you just never know. There`s always a game like that waiting to surprise us and I think that`s why we put up with getting horsed off Morton and the like....

So many good performances but the defence played really well, didn`t give them a sniff for an hour which allowed us to build a healthy lead. For me the clear MOM was Jakubiak. He was outstanding up front. Not the tallest but he was so good at taking difficult balls in, turning and running at them. Brilliant to see.

Hopefully the squad gets a big lift from that and really kicks on now. A few Raith fans offered congratulations last night but on that showing they better hope we don`t meet in the play offs......we`re most definitely due them one.

Difference last night is taking chances when they arrive. First half of Airdrie and Raith games we have been better team but wasteful in final third, last night it came together and confidence grows with goals. Jakubiak was outstanding. Overall team performance really good and hope we can kick on from here till end of season.

Yes, I`d agree there was not much difference in the level of performance compared to the first hour of both the Raith and Airdrie games, but we were sharper in the final third. We didn`t look like conceding in either the previous games but still managed to. That`s 3 of the best sides in the league, and with Bene and now Fisher back, we look very solid again. The midfield is much more tenacious with Hamilton and Otoo. Matty Todd`s goal will give him some confidence after fluffing plenty against Airdrie and really happy to see KRH playing so well. Jak was excellent, showed he can play centrally as a lone striker.

The only slight criticism I have is we sat back a bit too much after the 2nd goal, maybe natural but until then we were well on top and well worth 2-0. Both Otoo and Hamilton played very deep and it became quite easy for United to get the ball deep into our half, particularly in wide areas without doing very much. Without Hamilton`s bite in the middle second half, we were not as effective there and we got a bit lucky (which we were due) that they didn`t score earlier.

Overall though, very good, happy for everyone to see a few goals and a rare home win. Hopefully all the other games are draws today and that would set us up nicely for having a crack at Morton next week.

One of those great nights that keep us coming back.
Just seen JMcP`s reaction to the third goal and it was exactly the same as mine. Jumping about like a 5 year old.

As a group they`ve been dealt a really crap hand this season and they deserve tonight.

We are now in a situation where there are difficult calls to make with the team. How does Chris Kane fit in alongside Jak, Todd and KRH? We have players who are playing well, in Allan and Moffat, who can`t make it in to the starting 11. We also have the likes of McCann, Fisher and Sutherland on the bench, with the latter apparently deserving of a run in the team soon, according to the manager.

We might not play like that every week, or always come away with that sort of result, but it feels very different to a couple of months ago.

Credit to McPake for keeping the squad motivated, as it would have been really easy for us to sink further after the Morton and QP games.

It`s interesting to go back and read some of the comments after last Saturday`s game against the Rovers. You have to remember that a lot of what`s posted after a defeat is emotional and irrational but this one really stuck with me :-

I’ve heard some of the goings on behind the scenes and it’s only a matter of time until they do. Attitude stinks and he looks to pass the blame whenever he can. Step up and take responsibility for the same old dross you are setting up every week you clown.

Let`s not get carried away,

We played equally as good v raith

The only difference is uniteds schoolboy defending,

All 3 goals they just swarmed the ball leaving massive gaps and men free.

This wasn`t a tactical masterclass, or a huge improvement in effort it`s always been there.

That being said. You can only beat what`s in front of you and we did that well,

Otoo is getting even better and may shade Hamilton for poty,

MFW is a find and negotiating with his reps must be underway.

This result will mean nothing if we cannot build.on it we must start picking up wins until the end of the season.

Yes, I saw that at the time and wanted to call the poster out for it but didn`t because I thought he might know something we didn`t - e.g., maybe he`d heard a jaundiced version of events from a player who wasn`t getting a game.

I see different players every week and the impression I get from talking to them is that they`re all in it together and fully behind the management team. Now they might be putting on a united front for my benefit but when players are unhappy, one or more will normally spill the beans.

There were plenty of bean spillers when Grant and Hughes were in charge. 🙄

There was stories about late night mcpake phone calls to the players on the back of a defeat etc but I’m sure mcpake has learned from anything which happened at Dundee.

On the assumption we stay up he’ll have learned a lot from this season too.

Not convinced on the guy from livi but comrie will be back next season. Think we’ll need to find ways to improve the squad next year, those that came off the bench last night weakened us a bit too much and some have been found wanting at this level but generally it bodes well.

That result takes a bit of the pressure off for the Morton game, if we approach it the same and with Jak replacing summer and Kane in it’s probably our best team.

Last night proved you can score goals without having a `striker` if the chances are clear-cut enough. After the game JMcP said that was the Jakubiak he knows so maybe that was the role he signed him to play.

Was working night shift last night so I’ve just managed to watch the game. Great performance. Jakubiak looked a completely different player with KRH to link up with. They thrive on each other.

If we can play like that every week our relegation worries could soon be over. Our injured players returning n time for a strong finish to the season. Will catching Morton and Airdrie be achievable?

We had a striker called Michael Moffat, you`ll remember, who didn`t score many goals for the Pars. He wasn`t even too hot from on penalties, but what a player he was in League 1. Fais El Bakhtoui scored around 30 league goals, mostly assisted by Moffat. I doubt he`d have reached double figures without the unselfish contributions from his striking partner.

Great link up player coming deep, not so good in front of goal.

Bit unfair wee eck. Jak had a great game last night but it was just one game. I haven’t previously seen anyone calling for us to try and sign him for next season…I think more would have been happy to replace him with Kane next year.

I was quite early to the party on chalmers and McCann tho who are increasingly looking like being surplus to requirements as we try to improve again for next season.

Unless you set the bar for a good championship player at one good performance? Infact that would explain quite a lot…

If he’d been murder last night and didn’t produce anything for the remainder of the season I would be questioning mcpake on extending more contracts for players who have struggled to produce the goods at this level.

Before last night would anyone of said he’s had a good season? He would have been in the same position as o’hallaran for me.

If he produces the goods in the remaining games he would be a decent option, but we would still need another goalscorer. With wighton, o’hallaran and McCann under contract for next year can we afford Jak and a goalscorer too?

I`m talking about potential, Berkey. You never seem to see potential in anyone. You just write players off. You never saw any potential in Matty Todd for example. And you never saw any potential in Jakubiak. He wasn`t scoring goals so he was a failure.

You have a strange idea of a party if you say you were early to the party with Chalmers and McCann. What is there to celebrate about constantly panning players?

I was using a turn of phrase you used in your original dig wee eck and you know that, if that’s the level you’re trying to argue at then oh dear.

I didn’t say Todd lacked potential, he was great last season, I said it’s yet to be seen if he could cut it in this league in the middle of the park. Is that untrue? Had I written him off?

What on earth are you talking about in jak’s potential? He’s 27 years old…

You’ve had a mare on that post. Maybe go for a walk and come back tomorrow…

I think you need to consult a dictionary, Berkey. A party is a cause for celebration and potential doesn`t just apply to youth although I don`t remember you ever recognising Todd`s potential when he first emerged.

As for going for a walk and coming back tomorrow I don`t have the energy to walk that far I`m afraid.

The one thing that causes animosity amongst people on here is concerted and targeted replies to invidual posters based on their differences of opinions.
A forum is a place for debating certain subjects and to have a proper debate then other people`s opinions must be repectex no matter how you may feel about them.

To continually refer back to others posts by questioning the way they offer that opinion without giving your reasoned debate on the subject just turns it into an argument and a case of points scoring which would better served in a school playground or a Parliament building ( not much of a difference)

Can we no just get on........🤪🤣

Trying to claim morale victories over assessments of players over a week or a month and claiming “I told you so” is so cringeworthy.

Football is an ever changing landscape where form dips and rises and players form comes and goes. To claim hindsights ridiculous.

That goes to the ones calling out people for saying players arent cut out either - players have 1 good game and they are a god, have 6 bad games it doesnt matter…….can only judge a players success over a career.

Even worse this has come after possibly our most convincing performance of the season…..

“Just came on” 😂 Ive been active on here for 2 decades and its always the same……its embarrassing to use the “I told you so” when a player could be honking for the rest of the season. You can only base opinions on things you have seen. Its worse to then try it after a good victory. The Joe Chalmers thread is a prime example of this.

That goes to the ones calling out people for saying players arent cut out either - players have 1 good game and they are a god, have 6 bad games it doesnt matter…….can only judge a players success over a career.

Even worse this has come after possibly our most convincing performance of the season…..

This is a cringe worthy post if ever I seen one

Your just helping make my point 🤷🏻‍♂️ any additional content to add, or is this all?

You`ve just came on a forum full of opinions to slate every opinion. Basically saying the content is embarrassing.

Have you got anything to add?

“Just came on” 😂 Ive been active on here for 2 decades and its always the same……its embarrassing to use the “I told you so” when a player could be honking for the rest of the season. You can only base opinions on things you have seen. Its worse to then try it after a good victory. The Joe Chalmers thread is a prime example of this.

Take a break from the forum, mate.
