He has always been a bit of a nightmare in the Championship, was good in League 1. He is a good shot stopper but far too many mistakes at this level. It baffles me why he got a long term contract (Wighton too)

Well Rigger Al, if we can`t play out from the back, we`ll have to learn soon. No decent team relies on the punt up the park, which can be used to good effect occasionally but not as the regular option.

While we gave away the ball too often in defence with a suicidal Fisher pass back, some poor passes out from Mehmet when he was under pressure, and Benedictus not having his best game (including giving away the ball which led to their goal) there were quite a few positives today. Sutherland in particular impressed when he came on and Ngwenya outpaced their full back and looked composed with nice control and passing ability under pressure. Good to see Otoo back too. Thought he had a good game. We also played with a bit more tempo at times and we’re looking to get the ball forward more than we did for a lot of last season when at times we had snail pace passy passy sideways and backwards.

We just played a Premier League side and only lost to a horror error goal.
Thought we looked quite decent. Certainly an improvement compared with two friendlies v lower league sides.

Some positives for me today. Sutherland done well when he came on. No16 trialist done fine when he came on. Played some decent stuff at times.

According to the report on COWS we didn`t use three of our subs, including the trialist keeper. Is that right?
I presume the outfield trialist sub was the player who crossed for our equalising goal against Cove?

We sacrifice attack in favour of defence. It is the mcpake way. And he won`t change his beliefs because Big ange told him to stick to them.
We will play out from the back 3 with a keeper who isn`t comfortable on the ball.
Hopefully, Kane can provide goals, but I fear it will be a long, drab, low scoring season ahead of us.

MOH and Tod were supposed to be on the bench but weren’t, don’t know what happened to them.
Interesting to find out why the trialist keeper wasn’t used as Mehmet had a stinker, gifting away 2 or 3 golden opportunities by passing straight to the striker.
Sutherland looked lively when he came on and was unlucky with a great shot that keeper did well to keep out.
Wotherspoon looks like he will be massive for us this season, in particular first half he stood out with some nice touches and passes.

Manager already said Kane won’t be playing until the first cup match. He has an individual pre season training plan to complete.

We definitely don’t, it’s crazy that we persist on doing it. The amount of times we created unnecessary pressure on ourselves was constant. Our wide men always seem to be open and ready for the pass but we always go backwards and pass it around it tight areas.
Up the other end of the pitch particularly first half I think we created enough chances and some of the quick play was nice to watch, all of which seemed to disappear after the break and once you start making subs in these games the flow of the game kind of goes.
We did still create a couple in second half Hosler and Sutherland came closest, still think Wotherspoons shot was stopped by hand but not a bad performance for the first hour or so.

While Mehmet was poor with the ball at his feet under pressure he did come out of his goal area to get the ball on occasion and was looking to distribute the ball much quicker with some good throws. Agree with others that the trialist who came on did well. Nice to see Comrie back looking fully recovered too. Like Ramie a bit worrying Kane not able to get game minutes under his belt.

The trialist is miles off it defensively imo. Looked ok going forward, but looks lost when he had to defend.
Need to be looking for better options if he's cover for the first team

McCann had an excellent chance early on, you get why fans are so frustrated with him, for a striker that was bread and butter, he should be putting that away.
First half didn’t really see much of Ngwenya, wasn’t really that involved but he showed good signs in the second half.
Wotherspoon, you can see what he brings straight away, he will be a big asset for us this season.
Second half it was great to see Comrie, he did well, and was impressed with Sutherland, he has bags of potential.
And wait for it….hats off to Chalmers, thought he did well when he came on as well.
Hard to read too much into the game as a whole, there was a bit of needle to it with some tough challenges and St Mirren kicking the ball away at free kicks etc which I didn’t understand.

I was at the game yesterday and thought we played well. The first 20 minutes we looked really good. Witherspoon is definitely a big improvement. The new left back was a bit to high up the park at times for my liking, but he looks a decent addition also!

Highlights didn’t do the game justice.
I was there and thought it was an enjoyable game. Some nice patterns of play and we did look dangerous at times. First hour or so was decent but the game kind of fell away later parts especially after we went down to 10 men.
We looked really good when we were playing quick, sharp passes through them, couple of moves in the first half stick in my mind.
Thought Wightons link up play was good but it was rather annoying that when he came short, so did McCann and the through ball was to no-one. Personally I think if we stick with this formation Wighton and Kane would work well together.

I think that was an improvement, as you’d expect in a pre-season, as we move from working on fitness, then formation, to performance and ultimately results in time for the start of competitive matches.
It looks like the 3CB/2WB formations will persist, given we are using it as we get closer to the competitive games, and subs are slotting into a similar system.
I have mixed feelings on this – I think Comrie is a better defender than attacker, and KRH the opposite. I note the latter switched to midfield then seemed to finish as an auxiliary forward. Edwards was more suited to the WB role IMO. I haven’t seen enough of Ngwenya to comment much, but his replacement, who I assume was the Kiwi trialist Adam Supyk, looks like he puts in a decent cross.
The big difference to me was Wotherspoon who I hope will be a real asset. He looked to have more of a free role, and certainly showed good touches and attacking intent. He created a couple of good early chances – McCann did the hard work to hold off the defender but I think should have scored although the keeper was quick off his line – and one for Wighton who I initially felt mistimed his leap but perhaps the ball was always behind him having seen the highlights.
I found St Mirren’s choice of strip a little confusing – it looked like we had lent them our turquoise second choice strips from last season, which might explain why we kept passing to them, Bene and Mehmet being particularly culpable. Bene had a ‘mare – I counted at least 5 errors; a couple of times it took excellent tackles from Breen and Fisher to bail him out; he was also slow to get back when he was caught out. Hopefully he will get up to speed and the championship will provide easier opposition. It’s also more likely that we will clear our lines more agriculturally in a real game.
Not sure what happened with O’Halloran and Tod as they were listed on the bench although I don’t recall seeing them (though this didn’t stop MOH getting some abuse from the stand at one stage…) and Sutherland provided a little cameo – he’s got skill and a bit of pace – I’m sure I’ve heard it said that Taylor’s swift…
Overall, a reasonable showing against a team that may be a little behind us in preparations but which has qualified for Europe – feeling a little happier about our prospects.

O`Halloran was in training gear walking back from the gym towards the tunnel during the warm up, only time i saw Tod was at the end of the game when he was waiting with Todd to go down the tunnel, he wasnt involved in the warm up at any point.
