`And two goalkeepers on the bench - what’s that about?`

I`m guessing with tobi`s fitness in doubt that is he needs to come on there`s no guarentee he`d finish the game so they need briggs just in case.

Bad news about Tobi. Big chance for Mehmet to get his game in order. Matty Todd was out on the pitch there and looked like he`s dying to get on.

Just wanted to say that i met tobi in tescos a couple days ago and he seemed to have a slight limp, very nice guy must i add, however he seemed to walk the same way in the game against the wee team, so was it from then or is that how he walks :) (i dont mean at the end of the game either, i mean the whole night) :)

Fogarty had a massive head clash earlier, presume it was a concussion sub as apparently McPake spoke to the ref for a wee while beforehand.

The ref. must be having a great game because the Thistle fans beside me are raging. Glad to get to half time with no damage done. It`s going to require great concentration to keep it that way and maybe sneak a winner.

Mcpake usual game plan, keep it tight and aim for a 0-0 and if lucky we can somehow sneak one.

Tbf I would absolutely take a point today so hoping the approach works.

Even this early in the season it`s looking likely to be another close league, with a couple of wins being the difference between scraping into the top 4 or finishing second bottom.

Put every Pars fan against a wall and you`ll struggle to find a full set of unbitten fingernails between them.

I thought we were quite positive and solid at the back. Both keepers have had nothing to do, really. Believe you me, I`m the first to slate a performance, but away to Partick and heading for 0-0 would`ve been a fair and decent result.

Thought we`d done enough for a draw. Created next to nothing up the other end as is so often the case these days. Hopefully the injuries aren`t too bad or it`s an awful day allround.

From club X account :

“33` | PTFC v DAFC | 0-0

Young heads onto the roof of the net from a Todd cross.

39` | PTFC v DAFC | 0-0

Ritchie-Hosler`s effort, after cutting in from the left, goes just wide of the post.

60` | PTFC v DAFC | 0-0

The best chance of the match so far for the Pars. Ngwenya`s cross finds the head of Fisher, who heads just inches wide.

74` | PTFC v DAFC | 0-0

Ritchie-Hosler`s effort from distance held by Roberts.”

Agree it’s a poor tally on chances but wrong to say we didn’t do anything.

Ffs. Two decent results after making some signings then we fail to beat a decent side away from home to an 89th minute sickener, after having to completely rehash the team due to injuries......and all this utter feckwit can do is resort to this pihs.

Away an bile yer heid you utter Tw*t.

Ffs. Two decent results after making some signings then we fail to beat a decent side away from home to an 89th minute sickener, after having to completely rehash the team due to injuries......and all this utter feckwit can do is resort to this pihs.

We were not battered by Thistle, neither team offered much going forward. A draw would’ve been fair.

Looked like Mehmet could’ve done better with the goal, ball seemed to go under him.

Hopefully Tobi back next weekend.

It’s result driven game. That’s how success and failure is measured. A bit unlucky today maybe, but the usual problem of not creating enough persists.

Lose next week and many of the fence sitters will be calling for his head.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Competitive leagues can be counterintuitive with respect to a football spectacle. You could argue it stifles the game as a spectator sport as results will make or break your season. Losing to an 89th minute goal is very disappointing, but it`s an improvement on a few weeks ago when we were losing goals early. There are definitely signs we are getting better, so although we lost, it`s not the end of the world.

This is 21st September 2024, and what the Pars were in the past, or where we think we should be is irrelevant. We are in a spot, but not so bad as only a few weeks ago. I go along with this:

"Two decent results after making some signings then we fail to beat a decent side away from home to an 89th minute sickener, after having to completely rehash the team due to injuries." (Parrot)

It`s galling, the years of struggle we`re having to "get oot the bit," but we`re here in this situation right now, and I feel a bit better for our recent results and efforts. Only a few weeks ago we seemed doomed. Now there`s hope. We nearly got a point at Firhill, did anyone really expect to get one? Losing 1-0 to the Jags isn`t the worst that could have happened. On to the next challenge!

If we had lost 2-1 or 3-2 and made half a dozen good chances I would agree with what you said…..but we are still struggling to create much. Concede and we invariably…… don’t win……that is still a worry and until that changes we are going to continue to struggle.

I don’t know if we have any budget left but we badly need a direct, pacey wide player.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

The team gave their all against a highly motivated Thistle team with a 5 to 1 majority support roaring them on. We held them out right to the last 5 minutes and had one lapse in concentration. I would question whether those who are baying for blood are actually Dunfermline supporters and would doubt if they were even at the game.

We might not have created much, but neither did they and the "brilliant Brian Graham" was no better than Chris Kane.

If we are looking for a scapegoat let`s blame Memhet if he hadn`t let the ball go under him it would have been saved ! Ironically it was the only save he needed to make all game and he couldn`t keep it out !!! sum`s up what I think about him ( he is just not good enough)
He is our Jinx, anytime he plays we seem to get beat
Although fitzpatrick went passed a couple of tackles so we need to look at that also !
And as others say we are not direct enough and do not at this point in time offer very much up front

I’ve not seen the game but honestly from reading on X/Twitter and here it really looks like Mehmet has struck again.

Was it a save he should have made? - genuine question.

Also it’s funny how as soon as we loose the distribution from Tobi everyone is saying “back to the same old story”

Honestly reads to me that actually, we really need to play the ball out from the back better and perhaps Tobi coming in and doing so well in that regard highlights that.

Mehmet will run out his contract I’m sure because he’s not going to get as well paid again. He’s absolutely done. Shouldn’t be there. No doubt he’ll pop up in the lower, lower leagues down south cos that’s as good as he is. No sure he’d get a game at East Fife atm

I think you’re 100% correct tbh. Nobody has confidence in him. He’s stuck to his line and He looks nervous if he’s off his line. He kicks out poorly. He doesnt control his box at corners/free kicks, he’s got too many mistakes in him. For a while I was thinking he was a good shot stopper but I’m not even sure about that anymore.

This your not a real fan thing is a lot of nonesense by some folk
The bottom line is none of us like getting beat , and some folk shouldn`t write anything straight after a game that you got beat in ! because all you will see is the negative`s and want to blame someone and I did it myself by an earlier post as I blamed Mehmet and I stand by it ! but I am never here slagging our own supporters off , Ok there wasn`t much positives But at the end of the day Partick were actually no better than us we know it`s fine margins you just need to go back to the Raith game , they are down to 10 men and it took a deflection for us to get our noses in front and then kill them off with a wonder goal ,
I believe we will turn things around and go on a run , so hopefully it is next week and I hope Tobi is back between the sticks
And the Manager will be going no place !!

Remember cammy, shots off target also work the keeper according to those champions of mediocrity.

Starting to wonder how long it will take for any of our wider forwards and strikers to score a goal?

Just looked at clay’s stats, another defensive player who rarely scores goals. We didn’t need him unless we are also brining in a couple of wingers who can be effective at this level as at this point we don’t have any.

Does mcpake just irgnore the attacking side of the game completely?

The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity!

I am Mehmets` biggest critic, but he was much better today. There was one kick, which was poor, but for the most part, he did what he had to do well. Even came off his line for a couple of through balls.

The actual goal I`ll need to see again, but at first glance, it did seem he could`ve done better.

Quite a hard one to take.

Mehmet did well throughout, came off his line, good kicking, very positive albeit with nothing to do in the way of saves.

Injuries might’ve cost us again. Wotherspoon pulled up, Todd was a great sub but understandably tired, Fogarty went off with suspected concussion, The young defence coped very well with Graham, albeit he hit the bar with a header.

KRH works hard but looks just off the pace, Clay looks terrific asset with dig and drive in midfield.

Otoo is a beast in midfield. The passing was off, partly due to Patrick’s press, and the ball still too much in the air. Lack of confidence?

While Kane works hard, he toils to create a chance, but Fisher was unlucky with a header just wide.

A ref who managed to enrage both sets of fans and had a dreadful game.

Many positives, a fit Matty Todd will present more of a goal threat, so disappointed not to get a deserved point, but good signs going forward - injuries hopefully minor. More belief will do wonders.

I’ll bet without having seen it he’s turned into the holy goalie and it’s went right through him.

Part of the reason we are able to play further up the pitch when Tobi plays is because Tobi played further up the pitch than Mehmet. It’s not just that he doesn’t kick it as far or as accurately.

This season is an absolute right off and I am utterly bored of the pars. The best case scenario is the Germans hand us over in time for preparation for next season and Mcpake keeps us in the league and the new owners move him on.

I’m really disappointed in the manager since the league one promotion, although the football has never been great to watch it seemed he could change a game with a substitution or change of shape. Airdrie 4-3 a great example. Haven’t seen any continuation of this at all.

He always goes on about the effort of the players which I think most would agree is always there with a Mcpake team but as he admits himself today, that’s not enough. So that would suggest game changing players and tactics is what would make the difference for us and these are two areas the manager has failed in miserably and he takes absolutely no responsibility or gives any insight on his part to play.

Mehmet played the Tobi way as they probably trained to play like that. Did ok to be fair ( need to see the goal again) but we didn’t look as confident. Chris Kane is a master at winning fouls and holding play up. McCann needs a rest for a few games. KRH not championship level. Matty Todd … couple of more games he will be back to his best. His confidence/arrogance is great to have back. Bruce Clay was the best player in our team as soon as he came on… looks a true find. Cooper was hungry. Young had Graham sorted bar a couple of times. Our new number 3 is quietly getting better. I do like to see a few yellow cards. Shows passion. Hamilton will be sent off soon :)

3 shots off target and a shot from distance straight at the keeper. This is what we’ve become accustomed too, & is seen as a positive.
Our entire game plan is not to concede, & when we do we have absolutely no answer as to what to do next. It’s going to be a long season just trying to keep our heads above water, & that keeper is like a 20kg weight tied to our feet.

Thats why he brought in Kane on loan then made him his first signing of the close season. You can`t say we didn`t look more dangerous last Fri night.

Personally I think we`ve been lacking drive in the middle of the park and we don`t create enough chances for Kane.

For all the time I`ve followed football I`ve always thought the most important thing when playing away from home was to defend well. For the most part we did that today apart from that one wee lapse at the end. The way I saw it Cooper was outjumped in midfield and Partick broke quickly and we seemed to have inadequate cover at the back. At the time I didn`t think Mehmet was to blame but I may be wrong. He was pretty competent throughout the game and I think the goal was their only shot on target.

I wouldn`t say McPake`s game plan was simply to defend. He said himself the disappointing thing for him was that we didn`t hold on to the ball long enough when we gained possession and didn`t use it well enough and I would agree with that assessment.

Next 3 league games are crucial IMO. Wasn’t there today so wont comment on the performance, but not to hold on at least for a point is a disappointment.

QP home
Airdrie away
Morton home

Got to be looking for at least 7 points from them. If we struggle to even get 3 then I think we need to really look at a new way of going. Cant get by on the odd win and performance every quarter of the season.

Agree Dave, must win both home games and get at least a draw so airdrie don’t get the 3 points.

We have to show against queens we can beat a team at this level without them having a man sent off early doors.

Big week in the market, we need at least 1 winger in the door, what we have isn’t good enough and we can’t take them out the team as there’s no other wide players. Cooper looks okay but this is a big step up for him.

It`s mid September. Nothing will be decided over the next few games. "Must win" 🤔

Aye, 7 points minimum for me too. 6 wouldn`t be a disaster I guess but leaves us vulnerable. 5 or fewer and not only are we in serious bother of going down, I`d argue after one quarter that would be more than enough time to decide if McPake gets the bullet or not.

We`re already in serious danger of going down tho. In this 10 team cowpat of a league just about everyone is, including a Raith team who have invested heavily but can`t hold on to a 2 goal lead at home to Hamilton.

Livi, Partick, Ayr and Falkirk for me are the only 3 who definitely won`t be involved at the bottom.

We will be lucky to get four or five points.

Our only victory came from playing against ten men at home for 75 mins.

- Raith aren’t above us
- That’s 4 teams not 3

We have 4 points from 6 games and have scored 3 goals. What does a reasonable first round of games look like?

For me we need at least 9 points to not be bottom but we’ll still be very close to bottom. That’s a win and 2 draws or 2 wins and a defeat. Clear no one is talking about playoffs, it’s all about finishing 8th.

To get 9 points we’re likely going to need to double our goals to game ratio, can we do that?

`Most of the prophets of doom had us relegated before a ball was even kicked."

And we`re currently joint bottom, with our only win being against a team who played 75 minutes with 10 men. Folk like your good self always say things like "let`s see where we are after the first quarter" and now folk are looking at what that might look like that`s also an issue? There are some folk out there who are like the room on fire meme and will continue to say things are fine even if we are 3 points and 12 goals away from 11th with one game to play.

Just watched the Partick goal with the link Par put up
It is definately as I called it yesterday ,poor defending and Mehmet should never have been beaten from there either
I don`t know why we allowed Fitzpatrick the freedom of the Park , and Comrie should have shut him down to narrow the angle instead of backing off then making a last ditch tackle when it`s too late !
Just as well partick only had one shot on target !
We need to up our game for next week because anything less than a win is not good enough

Yes and the blinkered mob still think we can win it.

Best to stick to the facts as you remind everyone, 1 win from 6 and failed to score in 4 of them so let’s not kid ourselves we’re at the bottom end of the table for genuine reasons.

Where did I say things were fine? I just don`t think setting targets for a group of games is good psychology. What happens if you get to the point where the target isn`t arithmetically achievable? Do you just set a new target? Football people are the main users of the mantra `one game at a time`. There must be a reason for that.

`Yes and the blinkered mob still think we can win it.`

Where has anyone said that?

However setting mini targets is exactly what sports players and teams do tho - because that way, they can start a new round of games, session, quarter, etc with renewed impetus, without dwelling on what happened last time and can check progress against what they need to achieve their goal

One game at a time is another way of keeping players focused on the game in hand and not get caught up in the context

So what is the better approach - setting mini-targets or `one game at a time`?

I was thinking this after the ,last game ,he seems to have lost his confidence taking players on He is a young lad and he will go on to be a very good player for sure

KRH is too lightweight for the championship he is easily dispossessed and needs to up his game if he wants to play at this level

Not much to add; neither side created a lot, and it looked like a game where one goal was going to win and so it was a bit of a blow to the solar plexus for it to go against us when it did.

And it was such a poor goal to lose – they had a shy level with their box but we didn’t deal with the forward ball, we didn’t deal with the second ball, we didn’t deal with the run and we didn’t deal with the shot. And of course we had no time to come back.

Up until then, I would have had the Jags just ahead on points, but they had never really looked like landing a knock-out blow – indeed it seemed a couple of defensive sclaffs were our most worrying moments; however, we had 4 bookings and perhaps that meant Hamilton was constrained at the key moment.

We seemed slightly off it in the first half, a bit like a newly promoted side that is used to having a little bit more time – we made too many errors, but at least these were further up the pitch and not costly.

At least we had a few more options on the bench (including two keepers again – I did notice that Tobi appeared to be limping a little, but presumably he wasn’t going to be asked to do a lot of running). It will be a test to see how McPake deploys his resources.

I note that both Wotherspoon and Fogarty went off early – I’m not sure if this is bad luck, us being ultra-cautious due to last season’s injury-fest or us being sensible. Ngwenya lasted the 90 though so maybe his previous precautionary substitutions have paid dividends. It was good to see Matty back, although I was surprised he got 75 minutes and was preferred to Cooper (although the latter didn’t do much).

The Fogarty one was more concerning – if it was a concussion sub then why was he allowed to play for nearly half an hour after the original incident?

I thought Otoo did a lot of good work – little sign of a transfer-denial hangover; Clay looks like a useful addition – lots of strength and energy – but we still lack a cutting edge in the final third. McCann seemed to be heeding Mikey Stewart’s advice – running at the defence more – problem was he kept losing the ball, and KRH flattered to deceive. People say we need a good wide player, but who? Chris Kane does a lot of defending from the front – making up a lot of ground to close players down all helps. Perhaps he his game time has to be managed as well.

Overall, our squad has improved – it’s September after all and that’s what we do, but whether there’s scope for more, I’m not sure. And the division is beginning to take a bit of shape. Unlike some seasons when there is a clear favourite or an obvious duffer, I think the sides are much of a muchness so things like injuries, luck, or a run of good or bad form will make all the difference.

At this stage, it looks to me like Falkirk, Livi, Ayr and Partick are the better teams, ourselves, Raith, Morton and Hamilton the poorer (and perhaps Airdrie’s massive turnover hasn’t helped them) but that could all change.

Bamba-daft (and Cammy) I was quoting the club tweets in response to a poster suggesting no shots on goal - I certainly didn’t take anything positive from it (especially when there were so little tweets from the whole game). The result was poor and it’s not a great position to be in, although it is early days.

I appreciate your comments, though. 😊
