 Scottish Cup Third Round Draw
Topic Originator: CitizenPar
Date:   Tue 29 Oct 12:55

As a lifelong Pars supporter who lives about a twenty minute walk from Meadowbank, I sometimes watch City when I can`t make the Pars game. Facilities wise, nothing at all has changed since we last played there in League 1 two seasons ago, so let`s hope it doesn`t rain on match day! Nevertheless, I would much rather occasionally go to Meadowbank than Easter Road or Tynecastle!

I thought your username was a nod to your wee team (Man City), but it turns out that it`s actually Edinburgh City. 😃😃😃

Sometimes when watching Edinburgh City I have to remind myself I`m not at the Etihad. 🙄

Time restraints prevented me from travelling across to EEP this afternoon, so I watched the Citizens v Forfar game at Meadowbank. The City team is young, enthusiastic, full of running and with no little skill and I`ve no doubt they`ll be well up for a Cup upset. However, having said all that, we really should be able to beat them comfortably, regardless of James`s team selection on the day! I would expect a two or three goal clear margin, but then I`m ever the optimist when it comes to the Pars!

How is former Par, Jake Rennie getting on there?

They have a 20 year old striker, Connor Young who has had a good start to the season with 8 goals in 10 league games. 21 goals in 84 games is not a bad return for a kid his age, that`s the sort we should be keeping tabs on

Rennie only came on as a sub in injury time so had no time at all to make any kind of impact. Despite his youth, Connor Young looks like a real centre forward, ably supported by attacking midfielders like James Stokes. I know it`s League 2 football, but they like to play on the front foot from the off, so we`ll have to match them for work rate and enthusiasm. We really should be a class above them though and it would really take a major upset for City to win.

My apologies for not replying to comments directly. I`m new to the forum and not exactly computer savvy, it`s an age thing, so I haven`t yet worked out how to do that.

I purchased my ticket this morning. Pars fans please remember, the official capacity at Meadowbank is only 1,280, with a mere 499 seats, so don`t miss out!

Tyncastle is indeed a nice stadium, I was there as someone`s guest a few weeks ago for the Hearts v St Mirren game. It`s not really so much from a stadia perspective that I prefer Meadowbank, more that I find watching Edinburgh City quite a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I view Hearts and Hibs as future rivals, hopefully sooner rather than later, but it`s highly unlikely City will progress above Leagues 2 or 1 and I don`t expect us to plunge to these depths again!

Never been in Tynecastle since it`s modernisation, but have fond memories of the games in the sixties.

Across for the New Year sales then onto Tynecastle under the covered terracing, with the usual banter with the Heart`s supporters!

Oh, forgot the smells from the nearby brewery!

A hattrick for Connor Young. 10 goals in his last 9 games. He’ll be snapped up by the likes of Ayr or Falkirk while we’re kicking our heels as usual.

Michael McIndoe has a young, inexperienced side playing well and believing in themselves, with Connor Young in a rich vein of form. Can they keep that up at a higher level? I think they`ll give us a real game, but surely we have enough to get through this tie! I`ll still predict 3-1 Pars. (At least for the moment!).

Big game for the Pars this Saturday, the players will have to stand up and be counted , especially with the money ,you can earn in the later stages.

By that do you mean the Pars will score 2 or 3 without conceding.

I have to admit to being slightly less confident than I was before Saturday. At the start off the season many people had City heading back down to the Lowland League, but this is a well managed team which is currently full of confidence. But come on guys, surely a fairly comfortable victory at Meadowbank is well within our capabilities. Surely!!

What, if anything do they have to be scared of?
Our prolific strikers?
Our creative midfielders?
I shudder to think.

Chris said exactly what I was going to post, but thinking about it would it really be a shock? They have players that do what we cannot, put the ball in to the oppositions net.

It would be a shock to the outsider going on league positions and club stature, but it wouldn`t be a shock to most Pars fans I reckon.

This season I`ve seen City beat Forfar and Clyde and they were unlucky to lose to Stranraer. They are on a winning streak at the moment and Connor Young is scoring goals for fun, but nevertheless, it would really be a cup upset if they beat us. True, we are not exactly lighting up the Championship with our sparking football, but City are part time and most of the players are youngsters drafted into the first team when the Club was in financial difficulties. The question is, can a young, enthusiastic but inexperienced League Two team knock a full time, experienced Championship team who seem to be rudderless and incapable of winning at the moment, out of the Cup? I don`t expect it, but yes, it`s certainly not outwith the realms of possibility when I think back to the League Cup!
