Would agree it sounds about right for us 1-0 up and will just sit back and hold out for a 1-0 , we should be taking the game by the scruff of the neck and looking to kill them off , when there is only 1 goal in it they are still in the game

Decent start from us with a good goal.
Since then, Edinburgh have probably been the better team. They are the ones getting the ball down and passing it around.
We created a good chance where the Edinburgh gk made a good save from Dapo and Cooper really should`ve buried the rebound. It was harder to miss.
Edinburgh then had a couple of good chances.
Workmanlike is the best we could be described today so far.

In the lead-up to a game like this you can expect lots of warnings of doom and forecasts of an upset because the opponents may be in a lower league but they are no mugs etc, etc, and we`re garbage etc, etc. Then when we beat them it`s dismissed as expected but not good enough, etc, etc.
So far in cup competitions it`s happened against East Fife, Kelty, Alloa and Edinburgh City. Football fans are just as predictable as the people they criticise for being predictable. We should be happier than at least 17 sets of Scottish fans tonight.

What`s your definition of `negative`? According to the BBC we had 15 shots of which 10 were on target, had 5 corners and their keeper made 8 saves. City played lots of pretty football but lacked a cutting edge and Tobi only had to make 3 saves. `Negative` to me means sitting back and defending the penalty box and that`s not how we played.
Kintos, I `d rather be predictably positive than predictably negative.

What I donβt get about our plan to draw EDI forward was to play two players next to our keeper during bye kicks. All this does is ensure that Edi are playing directly in front of us pressuring our defence. Toby could just kick it and at least we donβt play half their team onside by such a decision.
I strangely enjoyed the game today but certain things completely baffle me to understand how we decide tactically play.

I actually donβt mind playing like that from a kick off but I donβt like doing that from every kick off.

Yeah, I was at the game. I was disagreeing that we played negatively and quoted some stats to support that. Against lower league teams away from home, especially ones in a bit of form, the important thing is to match their effort and commitment and hope that a wee bit more quality will win the day. That`s what happened and it was even more difficult at a ground with absolutely no atmosphere. It was a bit like the first game of the season at Spartans.

McPake mentioned in his pre-match interview that he had picked up a thigh injury in training on Wednesday which ruled him out of training and made him doubtful.

OK I`ll expand. I wasn`t at the game yesterday as I`m in Fuerteventura. I know how these things work tho. I`m glad we`re in the next round. Just because I refuse to get in a slavering mess about how my team wins a game doesn`t mean I was a Masterton apologist.
Good enough for you on this beautiful Sunday morning?

"What exactly have I said about yesterday`s game that suggests I was watching a different one from everyone else?"
Pretty much everyone else said the game was turgid, that we sat back and imvited pressure after going ahead, that not for the first time the tactics and instructions seemed negative... and as far as I remember, you were/are the first/only person to post across four or five different fora (here, EEB, P&B, Facebook, Twitter) that the performance wasn`t "negative". Also, using stats from the BBC (presumably via Opta or whomever provided them) suggested either you weren`t at the game, or were taking those stats as gospel (and most people take them with a pinch of salt, especially at the level we are at... and that`s before you`re taking into account the awful view anyone has at the ground to make those sorts of subjective calls).
I mean, I know you`re not daft, so I`m assuming you know this already, which makes me wonder why you`re asking?

It`s pretty insulting to suggest that because someone doesn`t agree with your view of the game they can`t have been there but it`s pretty typical of this forum. I`m quite aware of the limitations of statistics and often wonder how they are compiled and by whom but it doesn`t stop folk quoting them when they`re looking to criticise the manager or their favourite scapegoat. Double standards at work again. The stats didn`t look to me to be unrepresentative of the game I saw.
I didn`t actually comment on the quality of the performance, I just said our approach was what you`d expect in a fixture like this and it worked. As I don`t know you, I don`t know how you know I`m not `daft`, but thanks for the compliment.

Whether or not you agree with the content of Eck`s posts, to the best of my knowledge he doesn`t resort to abuse, unlike plenty on here. Granted it often seems like he`s hankering for an argument but the posts are always reasonable and measured.
Some of the stuff I see on here and on Twitter & Facebook is just embarrassing. Not that we`re any different from any other clubs mind you.
It does no-one any harm to treat other folk with a bit more respect.

I couldn`t make the game but watched the highlights. We never looked in trouble. A good win in a game that we could have lost had it been earlier in the season.
Good to see Dapo getting his first goal. All positive signs in my view. Obviously I never saw the full 90 minutes but from the highlights we looked more direct going through the middle. If we never played that well but still won - that`s another good sign.

It`s a potential banana skin in the cup away to lower league opposition. A wins a win. At this stage that`s all that`s important, move on to the next round. Hopefully get a decent run in the cup and use the cash to get their striker Young signed up.
As for the bickering on here, some folk are needing to realise that these are all just words, about a team a few thousand people care about, on an internet site hardly anyone visits. Folk could do with getting off their high horse every now and then, and others could do without taking the petted lip and having a wee hissy fit every time someone disagrees with them. It`s just words

It wasn`t pretty and we made hard work of it but probably still should have scored a couple more but for some good goalkeeping.
Edinburgh played a lot of good football but their finishing wasn`t the best.
Good to now have the opportunity to move further into the competition or draw one of the big guns.

Nope as it would have been a bad result either way. I either win money and pars are out the cup or I lose money either of which aren`t exactly ideal. After seeing posts from fans who were there it was as expected a struggle to get past another lower league team. And after listening to the manager post match we didn`t exactly play flowing football although missing kane yet again is concerning.
