McPake`s position was untenable, thank you for getting us back to the championship but the record since then has been abysmal and quite frankly the football has been putrid. This next appointment is a massive decision and I just hope the club gets it right

Lots to this, he might have offered to do deal on remainder of contract loads of things really.

It’s not the worst timing, we’re not expected to get anything on Friday so it’s a free hit and hopefully they already know who the next man is or which senior pro will take it on until the next man comes in.

Will be interesting to see on Friday now whether the players try up the levels although it might not make much difference mind.

John McLaughlin in charge for Friday anyway. Should be an experienced pair of hands.

I do feel a bit sympathy towards James McPake, he did well to get us promoted in his first season, and I believe he would have got us into the promotion play offs last season if the campaign hadn`t been blighted by the worst injury crisis I can ever remember.

He has also managed to attract some good players here, Otoo, Tobi, Kane despite having not much financial backing from the board.

That all said, the football on show has been really poor, uninspiring fare, and in his interviews he`s been like a man defeated for months. I hope he gets back into the game soon as he seems like a nice chap (and we can stop paying his wages)

For a replacement I wouldn`t mind Ian Murray. Even on a short term deal, as the new owner might have someone else in mind. Could be not a bad job for him, I reckon a better manager could get a tune out of these players straight away

Interesting that the reserve team manager is leading the club into Friday’s game. Suggests it’s not Murray given he would be available to start today!

Sat results made us favourites for the playoffs, action just has to be taken even if they didn’t want to.

I suspect he’s known for a couple of weeks his coat was on a shoogily peg.

There’s no easy way to let someone go at this time of year but the board knew they had to make a decision sooner rather than later.

I wish him and Dave Mackay all the very best.

Been inevitable for a while now. Could see from body language in interviews over the last few weeks the game was up.

Thanks for all the collective efforts getting us back up after taking over.

There was defnitely a feel good factor and a buzz / optimism about the team and a connection as a fan that i hadn`t felt since the Paton days going into last season.

Really quite sad and unfortunate how that all unravelled and it`s came to where we are now but this is the best course of action for all concerned.

Although I primarily blame the owners for the current sad state of affairs at our club, James did not do himself or our club any favours with his signings and style of play.

The fans saw this coming at the start of the season with the serious lack of communication and investment into our first team and have thus far been proven correct in their concerns.

The laughable rant from the German owners which took aim at those concerned fans voices must really look rather embarrassing for them now as their utter neglect has not only left our club in a humble state of affairs but it has also cost a man his job.

Although we are in a humble position and it may even get worse, we can now start to look onwards and upwards from here.

Pretty much every manager ends up getting the sack. It’s only a matter of when.

It’s been coming and it looks like the team had lost belief and confidence in recent months?

I don’t blame a lack of investment by the board, mcpake had a decent budget.

He just consistently blew it on players not good enough in this league, also on experienced players he and Dave knew who have pretty much chucked him under a bus.

Mcpake would have been gone last season (should have been after the Morton and Queen’s Park debacle), the injuries covered up the terrible football on display and Kane saved him with a few goals.

I have never believed in anyone being sacked at anytime but I think the termination of the manager and his assistant has been a long time coming, now we have to get the right management team in and not the usual suspects. Someone like the left field decision with Jimmy Calderwood would be ideal. I was quite enthusiastic when James McPake first arrived and got us promotion, then when we got up things went downhill very badly. I’m still of the opinion that we will stay up always the optimist, been attending since 1962 so seen many changes, hopefully the next one will be the right one.

Got a feeling Murray has been sounded out already, but he might not want to come in before Friday. We’ve got some very tough games coming up so whoever it is needs to hit the ground running. I don’t doubt mcpake will get another job soon, whether it’s using his contacts from his playing days to get a coaching gig or dropping down to league 1 again.

I would like to thank both of them for their time at the club. I don`t believe that they are wholly responsible for the current position of the club. There are many contributory factors. Despite our current position, I personally believe they have left a better squad of players than when they first arrived.

I wish them both the very best of luck for the future.

Don`t like to see anyone lose their job but there was a sad inevitability about this. Results and performances have not been anywhere good enough and it`s a lot easier to sack the manager than several players who have not been playing well - besides, a new manager may be able to get the team playing better football.

I wonder what proportion of managers end up getting the sack. By sacking the management team today, the Board has probably added a few hundred walk up home fans who were adamant they wouldn`t be back as long as McPake remained as manager.

And what about Dave Mackay? A classic case of, "If you flee wi the craws...=..

Thanks for the league title, but it’s been dull football since.  Despite various factors for the football and recruitment, it’s a results business and the inevitable has now happened.  I wonder if the wee team’s manager also going just speeded things up?

either way, a good time to get a new boss in place, as long as he gets some money for the January window.

Good luck in the future to them both.  What’s next for the Pars?  Reserve team coach for Friday.

I never saw this coming.2 days before Christmas may seem distasteful but he`ll have got a decent payoff. I wish him all the best in the future,it just didn`t work here and it`s not all his fault. The players need to have a good look at themselves too.

Why have a clearout? If it was all the manager`s fault as many have suggested, and we are about to hire a brilliant manager, surely he could change the tactics and turn our shabby mob into world beaters. After all, look what our former manager did with Celtic and our former player did with Aberdeen.

lol never mind brilliant, a half competent manager is someone who signs players they beleive can do a job for them and knows exactly where he wants them to play in his team.

We signed players like wotherspoon and o’hallaron and kept the likes of McCann and chalmers without any real idea where or how to play them in the team. We were effectively signing benchwarmers and wandering why it didn’t get any better.

I know let’s bring in another defensive midfielder, that’s defo work this time just didn’t cut it.

I`m sure most of us wanted to see James succeed. I certainly did because I detected that he put his heart and soul into his efforts for the club. I wanted the situation to be turned around, but the last couple of games were very disappointing and for those of us who still held out some hope, the situation looked bleak. As I look around our championship rivals, the teams are dotted with players who were considered not good enough for us and who are successfully plying their trade in teams well above us in the league. By that same token, I wouldn`t be in the least surprised if James McPake goes on to have a successful career elsewhere. Some of the abuse that I had the misfortune to hear at Cappielow was well out of order and I wish James and his staff Bon Voyage.

Firstly thanks to James and Dave for the previous years, so s a d to see you go just before Xmas, but I am sure have been compensated financially. Sadly it was the right decision.
I think the board have a lot to answer for, as their guidance affected everything. I still think training facilities and developing the youngsters is the right way forward.
I also note that whilst while we are all ardent oars fans, we don`t run the club, all we have is a view, good or bad. Some of the personal bile is poor, albeit better recently.
I still think the right attitude and tactics will see us rise close to play offs, but it very tight..
Anyway merry xmas to all. And fingers crossed for Friday, never a lost cause.

I couldn`t agree more, Parallax. At the last two games, I was embarrassed by and disgusted at some of our supporters. Of course, we are all disappointed with recent results and performances, but some of the behaviour has been atrocious.

At Starks, one clown seemed to spend the whole match sending and receiving messages on his phone. On the rare occasions when he looked towards the pitch, he stood up and shouted vile abuse ate players and management - none of whom could possibly have heard a word he said. Those adults and children sitting around him did hear it, unfortunately.

Hopefully he and his likes will be a bit quieter until his sense of entitlement leads him to behave like that again.

That`s one helluva assumption to make in respect of Ian Murray`s availability !!!

He`s probably committed to family Christmas stuff - like other jobless "managers in waiting" at this time of year.

That apart, it`s not uncommon for club staff lower down to take temporary charge in these circumstances.

Fitba` is a results driven business. Making this decision at the halfway point in the season was the right call IMO. I hope there is big turnout on Friday to cheer the Pars on. I hope the Pars show they are a match for Falkirk. If I was interim manager for this game, I`d play Otoo up front with Kane and McCann.

"That`s one helluva assumption to make in respect of Ian Murray`s availability !!!

He`s probably committed to family Christmas stuff - like other jobless "managers in waiting" at this time of year.

That apart, it`s not uncommon for club staff lower down to take temporary charge in these circumstances."

or suggests the club have been loyal to McPake/McKay and given them all the time it appears thye have rather than working on bringin someone in behind their backs.

Like many other folk , I wanted Mcpake to succeed
But unfortunately for him for one reason or another could not get the results we are all looking for , And football is results driven ( so lucky to get as long as he did )The players at his disposal were his signings so he can only put his hands up to that , we as fans thought many were not good enough for the championship , it`s a step up from the 1st Division , we are where we are because of this , every chance we can blame the Germans also for not giving him the money at the start of the campaign , but going with what he has signed in the past we will never know if he was targetting decent championship players with his wish list !
I hope the players have a good look in the mirror also , because for me of late some have been going through the motions !
All the Best To Mcpake and Mckay for the good things they achieved here
Cmon Ye Pars

There surely can`t be any Pars fans who didn`t want him to succeed, Wullie? Surely we all want the next manager to succeed, too, as we`d hoped previous managers would?

Just having a chance to get up to date with today’s going’s on. I’m not going to go over old ground but, although morally poor timing, it was the right decision and although him and Dave are good guys, and I wanted them to succeed, it was becoming more and more turgid and negative.

Watching The Pars was becoming a chore, as soon as that happens and the defeats pile up, I’m always in favour of the axe falling.

It was an absolute chore going to watch his team and there was very little enjoyment or excitement so I’m delighted he’s gone. The club were far more patient with him than he could have expected so he can have no complaints. Let’s hope we get someone in who will rekindle the excitement of watching the Pars again.

I feel it has been coming for a few weeks now but I think now is a good time to sack mcpake as it will bring the fans back to the ground for Fridays game which will help us and the players will be looking to impress who ever takes over. and it will be starting a fresh for the new owner to dicide who comes in.

I agree with the majority sentiment here ... offering thanks and best wishes, but given the results and performances, this was an inevitable and fair outcome, even although it was delivered a wee bit tardily. As GG says, no Pars fan can have wanted James and Dave not to succeed.

I reckon an old hand on a short deal with a juicy survival bonus would be the right choice at this time, unless the new backers already have a better deliverable plan in mind. COYP.

I cannot understand why you chose my Comments about wanting Mcpake to succeed GG ? when there are plenty folk saying this
However as you know we all want managers to succeed because we want dunfermline back in the big time !
And it was only a general remark
And I certainly hope whoever the next Manager is Gets the backing of all Supporters whether they like the choice or not

I was just being picky, Wullie, but not picking on you. Sorry if it looked that way. You said "like many other folk" which implies that there might be some who didn`t want the manager to succeed, but unless any Pars fan had a personal grudge against McPake, everyone would have wanted him to do well.
