 Connor Young

I`m at Meadowbank watching City v East Fife. It`s 1-0 at half-time, a cracking free kick from Connor Young. He must be attracting attention, wonder if we`re keeping tabs on him? He fits the criteria. Scores, young, works hard and no little talent!

Certainly won’t be playing in league 2 next year. These are the sorts of players you perhaps need to take a gamble on.

Think the last player to be talked about in the same way was Charlie Reilly, injuries look to have completely stalled him.

Would be interesting if tidser identifies anyone from league 1 who is thinks is able to make the big step up.

The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity!

15 goals in 18 league games, only 20 years old, bound to be attracting interest

He is exactly the type of player Dunfermline should be taking a gamble on. He had a couple of cracking free-kicks versus Stirling recently. One he scored and the other saved, but led to a goal after. He’ll be on the radar of English clubs now to play in their under age squad.

out of contract in the summer and only been there since last summer so "development" fee if any would be fairly negligible

Hopefully we do our homework on him as we have seen the difference in the standard between even league 1 and the championship. But if we like what we see and the price is right why not.

c'mon the pars

Didn`t he play against us in the Cup and was largely anonymous?

19 goals in a league made up of defences that are worse than ours? sounds like the next George best lets sign him up then watch him stutter and stall then fail to get even a quarter of those goals in the championship

Is he a better prospect than Taylor Sutherland? He`d probably be competing with him for a first-team place if we signed him.

He certainly wasn`t at his best against us in the Cup game, but he has an eye for goal, works hard and puts defenders through their paces. Is he a better prospect than Taylor Sunderland? Hard to say, but he`s playing league football every week, albeit League 2, and is gaining good experience. I also think City manager, Michael McIndoe, is one to watch. He`s taken a young side who were relegation favourites and is molding then into promotion contenders.

Unbelievable post. We haven`t signed him and may never do so but you`ve completely written the lad off. Why? How do you know he can`t improve and cut it at a higher level?

I think Ally McCoist scored a hat full of goals at Berwick, so St Johnstone took a chance on him. The goals kept coming and he ended up at Ibrox.....

I would absolutely give him a chance. I can remember Martin Boyle being the top scorer at Montrose in league two and he kicked on. There will be others that have managed it at higher levels too. We signed Josh Cooper from Stirling Albion when he was seen as an impact sub for them. He’s not looked out of place. I’m sure Connor Young could handle it in the championship given a chance.

Players like this need to go up a level and keep getting first team football. I think that’s what held back Charlie Reilly and if you look at it from our end, even Bakhtaoui and PJ Crossan. Reilly would have been better going to a team where he would continue playing every week to allow him to progress. It made no sense him going to Dundee, as you knew he wouldn’t feature.

Not sure it was Ally McCoist who was at Berwick GG,
St. Johnstone signed him from a boys club and waited most of that season before giving him his first start .......

Was Ally McCoist not still at school while playing at St Johnstone.

According to wikipedia McCoist had a short spell working as a clerical assistant before becoming a full-time pro. He joined SJ from Fir Park Boys` Club. He`d been training with St Mirren but Fergie didn`t offer him a contract. After SJ he had a pretty unsuccessful 18 months with Sunderland (9 goals in 65 appearances) before he joined Rangers.

Ah, my addled old brain. I think he may have scored 5 or 6 goals against Berwick in a single game and that`s how I managed to confuse myself. This Auldtimer`s is no joke. 🤪

There was quite a good tale told by Steve Cowan about when him and McCoist were 13 year olds from East Kilbride and Alex Ferguson used to come and collect them, take them to training at St Mirren for the youth team and then they would go to the chippy and wait on Fergie finishing the first team training. Apparently they both liked a prank and Cowan poured a bucket of water over McCoist when he was coming out the tunnel, leading to McCoist losing it and them having a full blown scrap. Ferguson separated them but McCoist was never seen again at Love Street.

Anyway, nothing to do with Connor Young, who we should be signing immediately
