 Scunnered 😟

It wasn`t until I got married and soon after became a father that I began to realise that there are far more important things in life than football in general, or DAFC in particular. Holding on to this belief has helped me to cope with the frequent disappointments of following the Pars for over 60 years. I usually manage to put a poor performance and result at the back of my mind by the next day.

Occasionally, it proves to be more difficult. Yesterday was one of those. Perhaps because Airdrie have been having an even worse time of it than we have. I can only think of Brechin having amassed so few points at the same stage of the season, in recent years. Thinking back to other painful lowlights, my top 3 are;

1. Losing 3-1 at home to East Stirlingshire in the first preliminary round of the Scottish Cup.

2. Losing 3-0 at home to the Blue Brazil in the second leg of the play-off final, which relegated us to League 1.

3. Losing 1-0 at home to Queens Park in the play-off semi-final second leg, which also saw us relegated to League 1.

At least yesterday`s result is not condemning us to relegation.

Perth 2004 calling, wondering why it`s not in your top 3?

But yeah. As I said on the other thread, what have we all done to deserve this? Years and years of mediocrity.

That would be amongst the worst for me, that and the Cowdenbeath game that GG mentioned

Easy, Rusty. I wasn`t at that game. It hurts a lot less if you haven`t actually witnessed it.

V Stirling Albion at home. They had not won in I think 24 games. They were next to relegated with a good few games to go. They won 2 nil at EEP.
Dumbarton at home. They were winning 2 nil and had 2 men sent off. They won 3 nil.
I have more but the pain is too much

Good post GG, was at all three of those games you mentioned and at Perth. I wasn’t there yesterday but had an uneasy feeling all week that we would lose, I just didnt expect how badly.

We should have given Airdrie no encouragement but we have.

Those two relegation playoff games you mentioned are the two that still hurt for me. I have an impending sense of doom that we will be heading for a similar fate this season.

my worst two were 3-1 up h/t v bankies at home in late 70,s /80s lost 3-6 destroyed by blair miller then brechin city in scottish cup in 1977 had beat the 6-1 at east end so trip to glebe park no worries then we found out big john salton was injured was nightmare lo 1-0

It`s taking me to get over it as well. Trouble is, I expected better. Not necessarily to win - I thought most likely a draw, or we`d lose 1-0.

Getting walloped by the bottom team, just when I had expectation with our new manager and owners. I never had expectation before, only a wee bit hope. I got carried away with the idea that things had got a little better, and we were sure to at least maintain that recent improvement.

Suddenly we get stuffed.

Can`t ever remember feelin` so negative. Too early some will say. It doesn`t feel like it. We`ve never recovered from administration. It`s endless.

The one bright light would have been if Tidser was gonna change our style of play - like McGlaughlan did at Firhill. We lost at Ayr, but there`s a world of difference between that and a 3 nil drubbin` at Airdrie. Sorry folks, I think when GGRiva is so down in the dumps as well, that tells a story. I bet even Parrot is off his seed the day!

I am much the same. Worse for me was Dunfermline being the first Scottish team to get knocked out of Europe by an Icelandic team.

I thought that we were starting something after an awful season with our performances

Yesterday was pretty awful and what I am hearing from the manager it was nothing to do with him - all about the players.

No- he had a part to play and if he cant accept that then I have concerns for the rest of the season.

I feel the same pacifist, I didn’t like the way he set us up to play yesterday and we seemed far less effective than we were in the three games John McL had us in charge. John had us looking a lot more competent at this level and much more of a threat with his direct style of play. Even in the Ayr game which we lost two nil, we looked good in the first half and probably could have lead at the break had we took our chances better. If Tidser won’t take some accountability and be willing to change his style to make the best of the players he has, we could be looking at a really horrific end to the season.

Time and again, this club disappoints us. Like so many others, the initial excitement generated by the new owners and the recent outcomes following McPake’s dismissal has faded away. I got carried away thinking everything’s great again.

MT must accept accountability. I comprehend that greatness is not achieved overnight; however, time is not on his side. The primary objective is to ensure our survival. If yesterday’s performance serves as any indication, we are in dire straits.
Next week’s match against the wee team is a crucial one for him. A victory could erase this disappointing result from Airdrie , while a defeat may swiftly turn the fans against him.

Yesterday’s display was nothing short of an embarrassment! Especially as some other results went our way! I don’t fancy our changes in a play off spot.

I don`t think we can blame MT just yet. Did he get the tactics wrong? Yes. Did he pick the wrong team? Yes. However, he`s barely in the door and he`s inherited a team with low morale and arguably simply not good enough. The hope is we can identify some signings and loans to keep us up and then we have a pretty big clear out given the number of players out of contract at the end of the season.

The performance and the result was woeful but the more worrying thing for me is the interview afterwards in which MT really appears to lay the blame on the players which although correct, the fact is he picked the team and tactics. Clearly the tactics for whatever reason failed miserably but he has taken on the challenge to keep us up and unfortunately he has to get a tune out of the players we have so alienating them with thinly veiled criticism to a bunch of players out of contract at the end of the season is not going to end well.

Any manager who brings Craig Wighton on I would imagine in a bid to change a game should be doubted.

Has not kicked the ***** off his boots for 18months.

Openly blaming the players rarely works out, just ask yogi.

I think only 4 of 15 players who made it onto the park yesterday have a contract for next season….Bene, kane, KRH and otoo.

Performances like that suggest none of them are pushing for a new deal and will be already looking elsewhere.

I remember spending a couple of miserable hours at Ochilview in the 70s. If my memory serves me well, I think Stenny beat us 6-2!

A rebuild is obviously needed. We are going to need to be really good in the transfer market cos I just don’t know where we’ll get 11 players worth their salt from atm
