Looks like Declan`s attitude was, "If you thought the first one was good, check this out". The second strike could not have been placed any better. Surely it was the game of his life. Arsenal need one more great game to reach the last four.

I never expected Arsenal to get anywhere near a draw never mind a comfortable win. The first time a player has scored 2 free kicks in a Champions league game, and what beauties they were. They bend on thar first one, wow.
The player that scored the 3rd was the player I was thinking off that got used as a striker when Arsenal were struggling with injuries. (A suggestion I made on another thread)

Arsenal home and dry, surely - or are they? Against any other opponent, I would say they`d be 95%+ to go through, but Real have made it a habit of rescuing seemingly lost causes in the CL in recent years.
A big factor in the Gunners` favour is that they don`t have to chase the game and leave themselves open on the counter to their lightning fast strikers. If they make it through, it will arguably be their finest ever European result.

Real have had many comebacks but never from a three goal deficit. They won’t turn this around either. I thought they were fortunate to get past their city rivals.

I`m fairly certain they overturned a heavy defeat v Anderlecht, perhaps in the UEFA Cup?
Just googled it. 0-3 in Brussels, 6-1 in Madrid. Long time ago, though. 1984. 🙂

Rice’s first goals from a free kick in 338 appearances…
You’ve got to imagine that this isn’t a skill he learnt in the last few weeks,
- amazing accuracy with plenty power, my gob was smacked…

I watched the game on an Italian channel and I don`t think Real could have felt hard done by if they`d lost 4 or 5-0. I was also amazed that the Italian commentators were able to inform their TV audience that Rice had never previously score from a free kick in 338 previous games.
You might reasonably expect English commentators to have done their homework, but not those from another country.

That late goal may have killed the tie but Villa could very well pull back a 2 goal deficit. Remember a few years back when one team was leading 4 nil after the first leg, only to lose the match.
Villa are excellent going forward so I wouldn`t rule them out just yet. I also believe that Arsenal aren`t guaranteed to win the tie yet. Nothing is set in stone yet, apart from Barcelona.

Return leg tonight. Arsenal fans may be thinking they`re home and dry, but I think it may turn out to be a very close run affair.
Real have been given permission by UEFA to close the retractable roof in order to crank up the volume in a sold-out stadium. How Arsenal`s players react will be crucial. If Real score first time before halftime, it`ll be game on. There are definitely goals in Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr and Mbappe. If they can stop Arsenal scoring, they have at least a chance of taking the game to ET.
In recent years, Liverpool overturned a 0-3 v Barcelona at Anfield and Barca themselves secured a stunning 6-1 win v PSG after ET, after going down 0-4 in Paris. Arsenal may yet regret not scoring the 4th goal their play deserved last week.

Poor doesn`t begin to cover it. Embarrassing. If he wanted to execute a "Panenka" he should have hit it centrally. An eventful enough game all the same.

Surprised at how meekly Real have surrendered. In previous seasons, they`ve shown far more desire, but have also carried large dollops of luck in winning this tournament. Happy their name won`t be on the trophy yet again this season.

Declan Rice has been brilliant for Arsenal.

Pretty brilliant display over two legs for Arsenal. Yes Madrid display was puzzling. Reminds me of my past tenuous connection with Arsenal as part of the Glasgow Possil YM team, who were a nursery team of Arsenal and played in their strips. Surely this was one of their proudest moments. Think I`ll support them again.

That’s a blow that Partey will miss a game. Rice is a booking away from a ban too.
Real have struggled a bit this season, so not surprised that they couldn’t turn it around.
Bellingham seems to have let all the headlines go to his head. Turning into an unlikeable and slightly overrated player. He needs to knuckle down and be more humble.

The yellow cards don’t pass on to the semi finals Raymie. Rice could be booked in both legs of the semi and still play in the final only a red card in the semi gets you banned.

It’s a tough one, PSG are so good but they do give you opportunities to attack. I fancy the winner will come from the Arsenal-PSG game

It would be great to see Arsenal go all the way. Arteta comes across as an obtuse, belligerent guy at times and his treatment of Teirney has been very odd, (if not vindictive) to say the least, but he has kept Arsenal in the higher regions of the English Premiership for several seasons. Looks like they have a team right in the groove. PSG are good but I think Arsenal can take them.
