Arsenal v PSG at 8 pm tonight.
Barca v Inter at 8 pm tomorrow evening.
Return legs next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dotnet pundit, Raymie the Legend is on record saying he thinks Arsenal and Inter will contest the final. I think it will be Barca v PSG.
The Gooners will need to repeat the 3-0 first leg scoreline they achieved v Real Madrid to be confident of going through. Never say never, but PSG have been on fire throughout this calendar year.

PSG have probably been the most impressive team in the latter stages although Arsenal never looked in danger against Madrid. So I`d make PSG slight favourites there. Barcelona probably start as favourites against Inter but we`ve all bought at that shop before. Flick is a good coach but likes to play a certain system whereas Inter will be a bit more flexible so they might spring a surprise and play a slightly different shape. If I had to, I`d say PSG v Barcelona will be the final.

I think we’re gonna get a PSG - Inter final.
Lautaro Martinez is a game changer.
I fancy Inter to go all the way and win it.

How many fouls is Timber gonna get away with before he’s booked? That’s about 4 now.
PSG look so good.

No doubt which team is superior at the Emirates after the first 20 minutes, and it`s not Arsenal. Hopefully Arsenal can get some kind of foothold because PSG are toying with them so far.

I`d bet my life on PSG winning it this year. They`re so much better without the galacticos. That Bumnal goal took VAR far too long to make the offside decision which was blatantly obvious when you saw the eventual outcome on screen. It took about 4 minutes when drawing a line on the screen and making the decision should have taken a minute at most. Utter sham.
I was hoping for a better game tbh but I guess tension plays it`s part at this point of the tournament. Bumnal didn`t offer much in the way of an attacking threat.

That was a quite brilliant game from start to finish. Despite my Italian roots, I was disappointed that Barca didn`t manage to carve out even a single goal lead to take to Milan next week. They`re just so good to watch, but their defending was woeful. Inter played far better than they`ve played for weeks, defended well, but still conceded 3 goals. 😃
I wouldn`t like to pick a winner - the tie is so finely balanced. It could hinge on whether that wily old fox, Lewandowski, is fit to play. He always carries a goal threat.

Inter - Barca return leg at 8 pm tonight. It would be asking too much to expect a repeat of last week`s fantastic 3-3 draw. I expect a much more cagey game. Barca will be fearful of Inter`s lethal counter attacks and their defensive vulnerability. Inter will want to ensure they don`t give their opponents any opportunity to open the scoring. Happy to be proved wrong, but a single goal may decide the tie.

The difference in games was as expected huge. The pace and willingness to counter attack quickly was impressive. Here’s hoping that the entertaining attacking football played by these two teams and PSG (which has taken them far in Europe this season) starts to influence more coaches to ditch the boring, slow passy-passy football that prioritises possession rather than scoring and preventing goals. This is especially the case for teams in lower divisions whose players don’t have the same technical ability, creativity and skill as top teams. The trouble is that humans evolved to be risk averse. If football was more attacking and entertaining I would expect attendances to increase (provided this is not at a cost of poor defending and losing too many goals).

I`m guessing someone isn`t a fan of Arteta :D
The problem for Arsenal isn`t necessarily that they WANT to play that way, Arsenal`s passing it around the box trying to create an opening is usually the result of the opposition setting up in a low block, leaving little space in behind, meaning they have to work in the `half spaces`. It`s slow, dull, and difficult and makes for a difficult watch. And it gives the media their favoured `Arsenal always try to walk it in narrative`.
Arsenal would much rather play against Barcelona with that high line, leaving space in behind for Saka and Martinelli to exploit - which they are really good at...it`s just they never get the opportunity thanks to the low block/hit on the break tactics of they majority of teams they face in the Prem.

What a farcical decision that was by VAR to award PSG a penalty. Apologists will point out that VAR get more decisions right than wrong. Hardly a compelling argument, is it? So they damn well should, with the benefit of viewing it from a variety of camera angles.
The ref didn`t give it. No PSG player claimed for it, but VAR put the ref under pressure to give it by asking him to view it on the monitor. VAR should only get involved when the ref has made "a clear and obvious error." The pen Inter was awarded on Tuesday evening was almost as bad.

Im not sure what was farcical about the penalty? 🤔 Lewis-Skellys hand is outstretched and the shot hits it changing its direction. It’s a clear penalty. Ref most likely missed it due to his positioning.

The fact that his arm wasn`t in an unnatural position...he was turning, when you turn your arm naturally comes out for stability. His arm wasn`t out to make himself bigger or to block the shot.
I`ve said this before, the handball rule is far too subjective. Id like to see an indirect free kick awarded for an accidental handball in the box, with penalties only given for egregious handballs like Suarez in 2010.

I`d take a cue from rugby and give a penalty goal for incidents like the Suarez one. No penalty required, it`s just a goal and the cheat gets sent off too.

On the penalty - it was so innocuous that when the commentator said " they`re checking for a potential penalty" I honestly didn`t know for which side - i couldn`t think of a recent event that merited even a check. Yes, on slow mo replay, it hits his hand, but he didn`t know the first thing about it. As for this " unnatural position" nonsense - anyone who`s ever played football/ a sport/ run for a bus will tell you that the only unnatural position is hands clasped behind your back ffs.
The rules don`t distinguish between blatant foul play and the innocuous, unavoidable and the accidental, but they should.
Having said all that, Arsenal gave a good account of themselves but the correct team went through.

I`m pleased that so many posters have put you straight for the absolute nonsense you`ve contributed to this thread. Saved me the bother.
I`m not an Arsenal fan either, but I wouldn`t let that cloud my judgement. When the ref is asked to review an incident on the monitor, he`s immediately put under pressure. The implication is that he`s made a mistake. Very few ever stick to their original decision.
