Just watched the highlights of Newcastle v Everton and Man U v Villa.
Everton should have had a pen when Newcastle player clearly guilty of handball preventing it falling to an Everton player. It was not intentional but nevertheless to me at least it was a clear pen.
The Villa disallowed goal….I can understand why the ref thought that the Villa player kicked the ball out of the United keepers hands and gave the foul but deary me. If you watch that in slow mo the keeper did not have the ball under control in both hands…..it was clearly no foul and goal should have stood.
What is the point of VAR apart from clarifying if someone’s big toe was offside…?
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

It`s not VAR. It`s the utterly incompetent, possibly corrupt, officials

On the Villa goal- my understanding is that the ref blew the whistle immediately, rendering the game dead .VAR cannot then intervene whether the ref made a howler or not. In other words, Rodgers put the ball in the net after the game had been stopped. Ref should have let play go on for a few seconds .

The referee not allowing Rogers to put the ball in an empty net before blowing the whistle is inexplicable, it’s utter incompetence.

One of the worst ones, I can remember was when BVB were playing man city and Jude Bellingham was put through, he got to the ball first and the keeper kicked the bottom of his foot. Jude scored, but the Ref blew for a foul, instead of letting it play out, and he got a yellow card. Was Fvckin raging

"If you watch that in slow mo the keeper did not have the ball under control in both hands…..it was clearly no foul and goal should have stood."
There are many issues with VAR and referee should have delayed blowing the whistle until after the incident but for all the gnashing and wailing, I`m not sure the goal would have stood anyway. It`s a myth that the goalkeeper has to have both hands on it to be under control. If he was touching it with one hand on the ground that counts too (similar to a try in rugby) and it`s hard to tell definitely if the Rogers poked it while it was completely free or if the keeper had a finger on it. Villa should instead be looking at the other various points in the season they turned in poor performances, let alone letting one of tje worst Man Utd sides of all time beat them when they had nktbnf riding on the game.

Think the rule says something about under control, so just faintly touching it isn`t enough.

These are season changing decisions .. Its why VAR should be helping .. The rule has to change that even when the incompetent ref blows his whistle and makes an onfield decision the VAR team can review while play goes on and change the decision or show the ref why he got it wrong (like rugby)
The technology is there they just cant use it properly

The penalty claim is a moot point as Everton still won. 1985par is bang on regarding the Villa goal. I couldn`t care less because it helped a lacklustre/nervous Newcastle qualify for the Champions League 👏 🙌 👍 😎 👌 and that makes me very happy. Villa were lucky not to be 4 or 5 behind at that point anyway as Man Utd dominated and created loads of great chances.
The league table at the end of the season does not lie and we thoroughly deserved to qualify. The Newcastle squad needs some serious additions over the summer though as it`s very small. I think that`s 3 windows where we haven`t signed anybody but had to sell due to PSR. Eddie Howe has worked wonders with such a small pool of players.
Villa can get tae F*lkirk as they had a good old laugh when we last got relegated. If only there was an Eddie Howe clone to manage The Pars.
I`m just a bit sad that Chelsea qualified instead of Forest.
I won`t look at this thread again as I`ll have drawn out the h8rs.

"Ref should have let play go on for a few seconds ."
and when this happens 2 weeks after a ref was chastised for allowing the phase of play to end before whistling ended up with a player in an induced coma in hospital because of injury sustained coliding with a post in a "redundant" phase of play then officals feel they are in a no win position.

I`m sure there was one a couple of seasons back where Schmeichel got the benefit when he had one finger touching the ball and it was deemed under control.
