I`m not sure why more of the subs are not starting? Surely, Clarke won`t get a better opportunity to assess them?

Well, I think we all know the answer? He won`t want to risk getting beat. Self preservation.

I think I`ll watch the Chase

Six of the starting XI didn`t start on Friday. I would imagine he`s hoping we can put the game to bed early on and then introduce the subs.

Picturesque stadium

Was at the last game - wanted to go partly cause thought the scenery would be amazing in amongst the Alps.

Come matchday, it poured with rain the whole time and the low-lying clouds meant absolutely no visible alpine scenery whatsoever! I was gutted lol.

Thankfully we won 1 0 but I remember it being a struggle.

Much easier, and more picturesque tonight, thankfully 😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Professional performance from us tonight.
On top throughout and good performances from the new recruits which bodes well for the future.
One of those games we simply had to not only win but win convincingly and we did that.

Good result in the end , like DA said, you can only beat what’s in front of you. That said, we should have beaten Iceland and didn’t, so it’s a fair barometer of where we were coming into the game. The early goal really helped settle things down; if it stays 0-0 too long, nerves creep in and the crowd starts to get agitated. Scoring early meant we could dictate the tempo and keep the pressure off ourselves.

I thought Miller looked sharp again, a quality player. Don’t think either side of the Old Firm will be able to afford him, to be honest look at how little they were wanting to pay for McGinn. He’ll end up abroad where the wages and development pathway are better. Hurst had a decent enough camp as well, worked hard and was rewarded with his goal, which was nice to see.

On the flip side, Ferguson didn’t do it for me. Disappointing in both games. I just felt off the pace and didn’t stamp his authority like he does with his club.

Looking ahead to September now. Hopefully at least two of our top five keepers are back fit by then. I`ve never seen anything like it with the injuries in that position. Adams getting on the scoresheet could be a turning point for him, especially if he starts the season well. Just need more of the lads getting regular minutes at club level, that’s going to be key to building some proper depth and competition in the squad.

c'mon the pars

Miller would be wise to follow others abroad, if a move comes about. Think a lot of players are realising that Celtic/Rangers isn’t the best for them.

Ferguson being played in a different role for Scotland I think - does he not play more advanced for Bologna? Those places taken by McGinn and McTominay mainly for us.

England have had their own Iceland a couple of times recently. They were beaten at Wembley last year as well as costing Hodgson his job at the Euros.

Didn’t know that but also not too surprising, given the level of opposition in the Asian qualifiers etc. The 5 “bigger” footballing nations there (them, Saudi, Japan, Australia, South Korea) should dominate really.

Iran was one of the ones that stuck out for me Eck. It`s probably because they are top of their World Cup qualifying group after 10 matches. They are in a group with Uzbekistan, UAE, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan and North Korea.

FIFA revised the way they calculated the rankings in 2018. The notes explaining the new method included this statement -

The Confederation weighting variables of the previous formula, which made rising in the standings more challenging for teams from Confederations other than Europe or South America, has been be removed. Teams will now have an equal chance to improve in the standings irrespective of their regional affiliation.`

I`m not sure how exactly they achieved that but it obviously benefited teams like Iran. There must be relatively few matches between countries from different Confederations to allow adjustments in their relative positions.

Not even sure if friendlies are still a thing over there anymore tbh. The Nations League kind of killed off the old style meaningless friendlies. Especially those classic England vs San Marino goal fests just to boost rankings.

Now you`ve got proper competition between teams of a similar level, and it actually means something. Plus there`s the added bonus of a cheeky backdoor route into the Euros or World Cup.

UEFA basically said: "No more stat-padding against minnows to get the easier groups although England still seem to get favourable draws.

c'mon the pars
