Yep, that`s what he was before we made him a CEO for some daft reason. He`s been hopeless at that unsurprisingly.
Just get rid of him completely and put it down to yet another terrible appointment.

There are probably some dot net users who genuinely do have the required knowledge, experience and skills (or transferable skills) for the role.
However, the salary is not fantastic considering the level of responsibility etc, and the need to be `on site` in person might put some people off. 🙃

I posted this back in March. I commented on the number of people we had in marketing/commercial and It`s still relevant.

It was obvious it was a well rehearsed interview. In the interest of balance, I`d like to pick up on some points.
We were told back in pre-season that we would get regular updates. Well it`s March now. Not my idea of regular. Again, we are promised this will be more frequent going forward. Let`s see.
Mr Cook advised that Pars fans should not be worried about another huge loss. We were told the same one year ago by GMBH. 7 months later they wanted out. Could we be looking at the same one year down the line?
Only two other clubs published their accounts for the same period - Partick recorded a loss of £152K and Queen`s Park a loss of £364K but Queen`s did move into their new stadium during this period. Compare these numbers to ours. I did not include Falkirk and Livi as they were in different leagues.
We have appointed Scott Gordon to the board. We are told that he comes as a Comms and Marketing expert. We already have Alister Burn - Head of Commercial and Chris Addison - Marketing Manager. David Cook was Chief Commercial Officer at Notts Forest. How many commercial/marketing people do we need? We can`t even sell out the Hospitality Boxes. How much are we paying for these guys? it`s been well stated from various that Mr Cook is on £160K. Let`s assume Alister and Chris take £100K between them and Scott will probably be on at least £75K - that`s £335K and probably conservative. Can a club in the Championship really support this expense?
Edit
I`ve just seen the Courier report that Raith made £48,295 for the 12 months to the end of May last year. Mr Cook said it was practically impossible to make a profit and maintain "sporting performance". Raith proved you can do both. For a long time they looked like they could win the league.

As someone who supports Dunfermline Athletic and also volunteers at the club, I get to see a bit of what goes on behind the scenes - and I think it’s important to give credit where it’s due.
Our Commercial Manager, Alisdair Burn, has done a great job in my opinion, even if much of his work goes unnoticed by the wider support. The fan zone has been a big success and has added a real buzz to matchdays. Securing a stadium sponsor while keeping the historic “East End Park” name - now the KDM Group East End Park — was no small feat. Getting Vertu to sponsor the away stand is another clear achievement, and the hospitality is consistently near full, which speaks volumes.
He’s also genuinely invested in improving the overall matchday experience, including things like the 50/50 tickets and other touches that help bring the club closer to the fans.
I’m not a happy clapper by any stretch, but I don’t think it’s fair when criticism is thrown around by those who aren’t aware of what’s actually happening behind the scenes. There’s a lot of positive work being done, and I think it deserves recognition.

I`ve said this a few times, but my concern is around the value added by having all these roles. I will always say you need to do things properly so should employ skilled marketing, contract, procurement etc professionals. However, we`re a pretty small organisation and it presumably hits a point where any gain from having dedicated pros in these positions is outweighed by their wages? We previously relied considerably on a lot of goodwill from volunteers, which isn`t ideal as they can leave when they please or may have periods where they can`t offer much of their time. However, it saves a bundle of cash!
Froma fan perspective it`s easy to point fingers. We don`t know what goes on. It`s easy to say "get a big money sponsor" or "introduce this new scheme". What is be interested in us who does what. As has been mentioned, there`s lots of people in the club with similar experience so who is actually responsible for what?

I feel as though David Cook could communicate a lot better. This has been identified and he has made a promise going forward that he will. I think we are managed way better than some other clubs of similar size. Look at St Johnstone for example. Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve got till it’s gone. I’m pretty sure that whatever is written on these forums it gets back to them. This forum can be really negative times. I for one am optimistic about the season ahead. Ok I get what some are getting frustrated. As they say fortune comes to those who wait. Let’s hope the wait is worth it. Fingers crossed.

The kit launch situation is laughable. How do you plan an entire event around something you don’t physically have in your possession? It’s not just poor planning, it’s amateur hour. Any half competent organisation would wait until stock is confirmed and ready before even thinking about announcing a launch date. With it happening on a weekday surely they would know fans would have to make arrangements at work to accommodate coming along and to cancel with 24 hours notice is poor. If delays happen? Fine be upfront. Communicate it clearly and professionally and wait until you have actual stock before saying come along and buy one. Supporters will always back the club when they’re treated with honesty.
I have witnessed fans actively looking to support the club, trying to buy merchandise, only to be told there`s none available, and then watching the same item being handed out for free to others in Legends, asking again if she can buy one and told no. That’s the sort of thing that leaves a bitter taste. What message does that send? That some fans matter more than others?
Mixed messages, stock that mysteriously appears for some but not others shouldn`t happen at a community club. The fact fans actively want to give the club money and are being turned away empty handed and frustrated says it all.
At some point, someone needs to be held accountable. Whether it’s commercial, retail or higher up the chain, the constant missteps are costing the club both financially and reputationally. If you’re happy to soak up the praise when things go well, you can’t duck out of the firing line when they don’t.
The frustrating part is that fans want to engage, to spend money, to back the team – and the club keeps shooting itself in the foot. How many more chances do we give before something actually changes?
Classic case of one step forward, two steps back.

Hello Cammy, I do exactly what you say for global trade shows when we are still designing products. It is called planning and we make damn sure that our global development, design, logistics and business teams are all aligned, aware of their responsibilities and are all committed to delivery. This is highly complicated content we are dealing with and we deliver to global trade shows on time. On this topic I am at a genuine loss as to how this can go so badly.
So basically we also plan and commit to something we don’t have. It is actually quite normal to do this.

To be fair what happens on the pitch will be the main factor in determining how the match day experience was..

Surely there has to be a cut off point before an event like this. You don’t wait until 24 hours before launch to realise you’ve got no kit to launch. Surely you get on the phone to Erreà a week or 2 before and ask, "Right, where is it? When’s it arriving?" Then, if there’s a delay, you front up, be honest with the fans and say:
"Listen, there`s a delay. We`re disappointed too. Here`s the update and the new plan."
Instead, we got some half arsed statement saying there`s no kit, might be a bit rainy and windy so let`s all just pretend nothing was planned in the first place.
The worst part? I’m not even surprised anymore. These are the kind of avoidable errors we seem to specialise in at Dunfermline now.
Let’s not forget, when we signed with Erreà, David Cook himself said one of the key reasons was to avoid these issues we had with Joma. So either we were sold a lie or we’ve completely fumbled it again from our side.
How can you expect fans to keep the faith when this sort of thing becomes the norm?

What`s the point of speculating about the details of the delivery arrangements and then getting worked up about those details you just made up?
The strips weren`t available (or weren`t correct). They cancelled the event when it became clear.
Disappointing, slightly embarrassing maybe, but without other details it`s just not worth getting worked up about.

Do people honestly think the club should have been sitting on a room full of kits in boxes for a fortnight before the event? Even for this idiot forum that`s a humdinger.
They`d have been promised delivery this week; they`d have been on the phone asking where the kits are on Wednesday; the supplier effed us. How difficult is it to grasp that? Unless you think David Cook is somehow responsible for the UK Errea suppliers as well.

Absolute rubbish. Ask any staff or Craig who’ll tell you they’ve had them for 3/4 weeks.
The delay is in the printing supplier, they never got the sponsor information from the club in time

The times I dealt with him in the club shop I found him to be really helpful. I would also imagine he was instrumental in organising the fan days during the euros. A novel idea to generate the club some revenue, at a time where gate receipts are zero.

Unfortunately, the kit is one of the bigger commercial income streams the club has. Making such a mess of something that should be straightforward, and which brings in a sizable chunk of revenue, ultimately falls at the feet of the commercial department.
This isn’t just a minor hiccup, it`s a major failure in planning and communication. I would hope there are serious discussions taking place between the board and those responsible to ensure this sort of shambles doesn’t happen again.
At the very least, supporters deserve transparency, accountability and clear measures in place to improve for next year. Once again, the fans are left frustrated and the club looks amateurish.

You have me, I have no opinion on any topic and just gather my views with AI. Just because someone disagrees doesn’t mean they’ve handed their brain over to AI. What a daft conclusion to arrive at just because someone is expecting better from a guy who`s responsible for doing a straight forward kit launch.
We`re all here for opinions, debate, and a bit of back and forth, if someone needs to throw out the “must be AI” card every time they read something they don’t like, maybe forums aren`t for you.

Yep, the c*ck-ups with the strips lies solely and squarely at the feet of Cook. Delay has nothing to do with Alastair.

You told us DC was solely responsible for hiring Tidser which was refuted on here and you didn`t respond. Now you`re telling us he was solely responsible for the delay re the new kits. Why should anyone believe you. You obviously have an agenda against the guy.
And who`s your source?

Sorry but quick question - who in their right mind would organise a full kit launch, including the sale of the kit to fans, without making sure you have the kits first and they are exactly how they should be?
It is absolutely catastrophic to organise such a large event without being 100% sure of having the product available to sell.
It’s also not just fans this has screwed over, it’s other businesses who have gone out of their way to organise it to be shunted off at the last minute.
All of that lies at Cooks feet, and absolutely nothing will happen. The running of things like this has been a joke for the last 2 years. We are a laughing stock.

I have no idea about the logistics of a kit launch but I`d be surprised if it was normal for everything to be tied up long before the day of the launch, especially if there were negotiations still going on with the kit sponsors. I would imagine it could be quite normal for these things to be `last minute` and not necessarily in the control of one party.
On the subject of Tidser`s appointment, there is a video interview with DC, still available on COWS, in which he says Tidser was on the original short list but his credentials were checked via James Bord`s data analysis software. Is it conceivable JB would approve the release of this video if that wasn`t the case or would be happy to appoint someone without approving him? Wasn`t John Colquohoun advising him? I recall that being reported on Radio Scotland before Tidser was appointed.
We have had two sets of millionaire owners in the last year and both have seen fit to retain DC`s services. I put more weight on that than accounts coming from anonymous sources.

How many other clubs, at any level, organise a kit launch only to pull the plug at the last minute? It’s amateur hour stuff. We`re not talking about a wee one off special edition top here, this is an annual event, three new kits a season. That`s a massive part of the club`s income stream, especially at our level.
Fans usually turn up expecting to see the new kits, buy them, and feel that buzz heading into the new season. Instead, we get a last minute cancellation the club cobbles together some vague excuse about the weather not being great anyway. It’s not good enough.
These kits should’ve been ordered, delivered, checked, and ready to go weeks ago. Other clubs seem to manage it fine. If it was the sponsor holding things up I`m sure fans would have preferred a statement of a prototype of the kit and an update of when the fans can buy it.
Supporters will always back the club, but we’re not mugs. Defending this kind of shambles just enables more of the same. For a key revenue stream like this, it’s unacceptable.

I note cammypar didn't mention the allegation about Tidser`s appointment. That`s obviously nonsense and if the allegation about the kits is coming from the same source then I`m highly sceptical about it.

What allegations are you waffling on about now? This thread’s about the commercial vacancy and the utter farce that was the kit launch? There isnt some wild rumour from a "source". It’s not speculation, it’s not hearsay, it’s fact. It’s plastered all over the club’s official channels: the launch was canned last minute, no kits available, and yet we’re somehow meant to just nod along and accept it?
And now we’ve got Tidser being wheeled out? What’s that got to do with any of this? For someone that keeps saying “leave the past in the past” yet the minute criticism is aimed at how the club is being run right now he has dragged Tidser into it.

The postponed kit launch may be a fact but the responsibility for it seems to be a matter of speculation. The allegation about DC`s part in the appointment of Michael Tidser was made in the `Cook out` thread by a poster who is also alleging his blame for the kit launch issue. It seems reasonable to link the two.
Maybe it`s a personal quirk of mine, but I don`t like apportioning blame without knowing the full facts. I`m constantly surprised that so many posters on here don`t seem to have the same attitude. People complain repeatedly about not being told what`s going on at the club then proceed to criticise it anyway based on their assumptions. We are told stuff which can only come from internal sources but is often contradictory. Look at all the recent spculation about signings we were assured were going to happen and didn`t. As I said I`m quite sceptical now about anything I read on here.

Steven Fletcher – Seems likely to link up with the squad in Bulgaria and is expected to get some minutes in the closed door friendly. No permanent offer on the table yet, but it’s clearly one that’s being looked at closely.`

People apportion the blame because the people running the club don’t communicate correctly about what has happened. If we didn’t have the kits on Thursday, or they had been misprinted, then tell the fans that. Instead, they blamed “unforeseen circumstances and the weather”. Its comical.
And again, any club that organises a kit launch with a full event for it, without having the actual kit ready and in their hands beforehand, is moronic.
BTW it’s 6 days until our first competitive game of the season and fans haven’t even been shown the kit design yet, let alone have a chance to purchase one. If you think thats acceptable then I really do worry.

I`ve never said it`s acceptable. I just don`t think we have the information to apportion blame and I`m sceptical about `facts` derived from internal sources, based on previous experience.

There`s a big difference between "seemed likely" and "was definitely there". I think your jumping the gun and making assumptions when there’s been no confirmation either way. For all we know, the club did try to get a deal done and couldn’t come to terms. That happens all the time. Could be the player wasn’t sold on the move, wanted to keep options open, or was never actually that close. That’s football.
As for Tidser, dragging him into the chat just seemed like a lazy deflection. The topic was the kit launch, a totally separate issue. Unless he was designing the shirts or manning the club shop, no idea what his sacking has to do with it.
I gave the club credit where it’s due, the club fronted up when they sacked him. Cook’s statement was surprisingly honest for once:
"we accept responsibility for this decision. It just didn’t work out the way we all hoped. "
That’s how you handle it. Admit the mistake and move on. Just a pity they didn`t apply the same approach to the kit. Address`s the situation and give a bit of an update trying to change the subject and using the weather was a cop out.

` I think your jumping the gun and making assumptions when there’s been no confirmation either way.`
That more or less sums up my feelings about assuming who`s accountable for this kit issue. The Tidser issue is relevant because it casts doubts on the accuracy of the accusations made by the same poster about the kit issue.
I think you should sack your source, cammy. You had me going for a bit at the prospect of signing Steven Fletcher!

I feel sorry for Alistair. He’s been thrown under the bus as a result of the strip debacle.
