 Mason Munn (gk)

From the Record -

Dunfermline target Rangers kid
Dunfermline Athletic are keen on a loan for Rangers youngster Mason Munn.

Neil Lennon is seeking more competition for his goalkeeping spot.

He wants somebody to come in and challenge Deniz Mehmet.

The Pars had Tobi Oluwayemi on loan from Celtic last season.

Ranges are keen to get Munn out to get his first taste of senior football.

His only other top-level game for Rangers came in their Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh last season.

Mason Finlay Munn (born 30 March 2006) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Rangers.

Early life
Munn is a native of Donaghadee, Northern Ireland.[2] He has been described as "one of the brightest young prospects in Great Britain... captured the attention of many well-known Premier League clubs with his exploits between the sticks, with Arsenal among his prospective suitors".[3]

Club career
As a youth player, Munn joined the youth academy of Northern Irish side Glentoran. In 2022, he joined the youth academy of Scottish side Rangers. He was described as "impressing in the Rangers B team after overcoming a bad injury when he first moved to Scotland".[4] He helped the club reach the 2024 Scottish Youth Cup final.[5]

He made his full Rangers competitive debut in a Scottish Cup fourth round tie at home to Fraserburgh on 19 January 2025 where the hosts won 5-0 and Munn kept a clean sheet.[6]

International career
Munn has represented Northern Ireland internationally at youth level.[citation needed]

Lennon has said he is looking to sign two goalkeepers. No doubt one will be an experienced keeper and the other a younger keeper.

I don`t think too many fans were enthused when Charlie Gilmour`s signing was announced. Anyway, this is only a rumour although Scott Burns is usually quite reliable.

Similar profile to Tobi, who proved to be more than good enough last season.

Tobi probably saw last season`s loan as an opportunity to put himself in the `shop window` and now he`s benefiting from that.

I honestly couldn’t give a hoop about where they’re from or any other nonsense. As a club, only results should count. We’ve got to be better in the league next season. It’s time for the team to do its bit, the loyal fans deserve it and I’m pretty certain it’ll bring more fans through the door. Success will breed success

What’s the point in getting a young loan goalkeeper in unless he’s going to be getting a game? To be honest if the option is there to bring him in and have Mehmet as number 1 to start the season I’d take it if it freed up wages for the creative players and striker we need more badly.

On another points rovers fans up in arms over thier new keeper who has not had a good preseason and cup, they want dabrowski back!

The post below replying to me is by one of .nets finest champions of mediocrity!

Oluwayemi did have more first team experience in comparison, doesnt look like his trial in France has led to anything so maybe there is still a chance of a return.

not surprised Munn is on the list of options although how it would work if two keepers are signed alongside Mehmet would remain to be seen.

Tobi had only started 11 first team games before joining us. Not much difference. 14 if you include Celtic B starts.

The post match comments stated they were pleased DM came out for the ball. That`s been his weakness in my view, it's good to see. He didn`t put a foot wrong against Hamilton

Yeah Deniz has definitely improved a bit.
His biggest weakness was his inability to come out his 6 yard box but his shot stopping wasn’t really in question.
He saved two chances last night which could easily have found the net and he does seem to be more confident in the 18 yard area now.

Honestly if he fixed his commanding of the area, and maybe sharpened up on his passing i would happily have him 1st gk, ofc thats wishful thinking, he is clearly a very good shot stopper, but is held back by his funnily enough holding back on the line

McGregor had already had 8 league games for Rangers and a full season on loan at St Johnstone in the Championship before he joined us. He had also played for Scotland U21s by then too.

One of the most exciting goalkeeping prospects in the uk is possibly joining us but that doesn’t impress the armchair managers on here. Aye we better not sign him then.

Derek Stillie was in goals in one of our most successful eras ever, and he never once budged from his line.

I’m sure Munn has not come to sit on the bench? He would be as well staying at Rangers, otherwise.

It was Stillie who left us as he wanted to go back down south yet ended up at Dundee United wasn’t it?

Was notorious for not coming for crosses.

If Munn comes in I’d fancy him to replace Mehmet as first choice unless we were to sign another keeper.

Tobi was a good goalkeeper, his distribution and ability to get the ball up the other side of the pitch was impressive.

I’m not really itching that much to see him back though, if we do manage then I’ll be happy, he’s better than Mehmet without a doubt but equally he’s not for me at the standard where I’d be gutted he didn’t sign.

What is it with people being snide on here?
Personal issues?
There are plenty of reports on the game to suggest that is an accurate summary, he`s 19, there`sgoing to be inconsistencies.
Is there any need to be snide because a handful of glitter isn`t chucked on the situation?

There was that one time in Kilmarnock where, just as they were about to take a free kick, he burst through his wall sending players flying and leaving the whole defence in disarray. Needless to say, they scored.

The team we had when Stillie was goalkeeper was very different. If remember it right wouldn’t we have had, Skerla, Wilson, Nipper, Youssef Rossi… maybe even Tod Snr? šŸ¤” no being funny but being beat in the air wasn’t to much of an issue for that team. Lee Bullen, Craig Brewster and the like coming back for corners and free kicks as well. It worked better cos we knew what was happening but of course it didn’t work every time šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø that being said, Stillie was a much better GK than Mehmet.

Munn is a young goalkeeper so I certainly wouldn’t have overly high expectations but you would also think that he’d be coming in with a view to first team football
