Already we are seeing the benefit of a squad hungry to play.
KRH was rightly on the bench and put a much more punchy shift with an end product when he came on. Ngnewa looked really lively. Hamilton came on to play as a 10 ( seemed to me) and was aggressive and deservedly won the penalty. McLeod had the baws to take the penalty to stamp his mark for a starting slot.
Oakley and Amade fighting it out for the start. Davidson will be champing at the bit as Chiko Mullen has been bang average all pre and league cup season.

Ngwenya looked lively but was absolutely rotten. His passing was dreadful. We deffo need a player that can play LWB.

I thought Ngwenya was poor when he came on. LWB is one of the first positions I’d look to address with a new signing in this side.

Ngwenya is pretty hopeless, as a left back he is ok, can possibly be used as back up left centre back in the 3. He doesn`t offer enough as a wing back though, can`t pass, cross or dribble. We could do with an upgrade, would also give Lennon the option of using Otoo in centre midfield.

Let’s all jump on Ngwenya… wow !!
I said he was lively … not world class.
Watching from the Norrie 10 yards from the corner flag he did just fine.

That for me was one of Keirans best performances, Hosler and Ngwenya helped change the game up the wings, as did the urgency showed by all the substitutions. Far better second half.

It isn`t a case of jumping on anyone, I just don`t think he has the attributes to play left wing back.
He came on with with 7 minutes left against a part-time side who were out on their feet, so there was loads of space for him to move into. He got a decent amount of the ball in good areas and did nothing useful with it - in fairness Otoo also didn`t offer much.
As a left back he is solid enough, could be some potential as the left sided centre back, certainly he has the physical attributes to play there. He put in some decent performances last season but we need to improve the squad and given that we are unlikely to play with a back 4 much, he`d be one I`d be trying to move on.

Probably similar to Comrie in that the system just doesn’t suit him. Lennon’s doubling down on the five at the back and it’s a big season for a few to show they can actually improve in it. I’d put KRH in that bracket a talented player, but he needs to knuckle down and show he can adapt to the system. There’s a handful in the squad who can’t afford another season of just going through the motions. Time to step up or get cut loose.

Yes, Comrie another who is a steady full back, but not a wing back. KRH is winger, I think he is bit more suited to wing back, especially in games we are on the front foot in. I don`t think KRH is suited to playing centrally, so he`ll have to make the most of it out there.
I can see a few moving on towards the end of the window. The Sutherlands probably both out on loan.
Fisher probably, if Ngwenya and Hamilton can also be slotted into the back 3, do we really need him as well as Davidson and Young.
Matty Todd looks like he is currently 4th choice for the attacking midfielder role behind Cooper, Tod, Macleod & Bray - maybe even Fyffe! He can`t be pleased with his lack of minutes so far.

I’m going to caveat what I’m about to say by saying, it was pre-season and I know what happens in pre-season with getting up to speed.
He played Left Centre Back against Kelty & East Fife and looked like a bombscare. The First Half against East Fife, I really had the fear because everything seemed to be going through there, Bene was having to work harder and wasn’t having one of his better games and we just looked like a shambles.
Ngwenya may have the attributes to play there and might be able to fill in when needed, in a short term match day scenario, but on those 2 occasions, I would be alarmed if he was a pick for there……unless hours are invested in training and he improves on those performances.

A big year for Matty Todd too, he should be a regular by now, and he isn`t -im thinking we won`t be carrying too many this season.

if Lennon gets the positions sorted that he wants then you could let 3 or maybe 4 go but after that anyone else would need replaced, hopefully there is a plan B other than the 3 at the back too.

I wouldn’t say he was rotten, he didn’t have a lot of time to work and looked like he was working hard to impress but he also didn’t do the best he could have. He did have to much weight on a ball that rolled out for a goal kick and there was something else he done that made me think “NL won’t like that” but I can’t remember what it was now 😂
For where we are, Ngwenya will likely get another chance during the season. I think Otoo will be starting LB/LWB and Ngwenya will be No 2. Tbf i don’t think that’s a bad place for the squad to be.
It’s up to Ngwenya to take his chance, I don’t think he done that on Saturday.

To be fair matty todd stunk the place out towards the end of last season and bar a few nice finishes the season before he’s another that’s struggled in the middle of the park in the championship, if we bring a few more in I can see him going out on loan which will prob mean he’s have played his last game.
That’s one of the biggest things you notice under Lennon, he’s not interested if your a local guy or been at the club for years, if you good enough you stay, if your not your away.
We need a decent LWB for sure, otoo wasted in that position as doesn’t really beat a man and not got much of a trick of decent delivery and ngwenya just about good enough at left back and can’t play anywhere else.
If we bring in a LWB I can see Ngwenya as another who might be loaned out as Otoo can cover.

I don`t get the same vibe - he seems to love and recognise the club/community value in local boys doing good and would give them a chance
After that ... I agree
Suspect the Sutherlands to be out on loan ...but not forgotten or written off

Remember a few years back when Matty Todd was playing right back? I think that could maybe be have been his best position in the current set up. Unlikely to get a chance there now KRH and Kearney are main contenders for that position. I`d be surprised if he isn`t loaned out now.

Y, the Sutherland`s (and the club) would benefit from a decent loan move again, getting more mens games under the belt.
Matty Todd is a strange one, might be needed for cover, or he might play himself into the team-hes been surprisingly patchy at this level though, and clearly is well behind in the pecking order also at the moment, some players just don`t develop much, nothing to do with the club or player.
If he goes on loan, there`s not a huge benefit to us (unless the other club pay his full wages, not sure that a FT team will be in for him)

Todds played a massive 20 minutes in the league cup. I think he’s well out of favour with Lennon, which after the last couple of seasons, is understandable.
He seems to have the same issues as McCann did - one good game in 6 that masks the fact the other 5 are poor. Runs about a lot though, which also covers it up.

The main issue is he just hasn’t had the minutes. The question is why? Is it down to his levels in training? Is it an ability thing? Loads of unanswered questions, but you’d imagine they’ll start getting answered as the season unfolds. What’s not up for debate is how big a season this is for him if he’s serious about staying in a Pars shirt. Make or break, you’d have to say.

I always thought he was one of the fittest guys in the squad. When McPake visited EEP for a look round when he was appointed didn`t he find MT lapping the track voluntarily long before pre-season training was due to start?
This season will be a big one for all the players whose contracts expire next summer. That`s how it is every season.

Yes exactly, we don`t owe him anything, and he doesn`t owe us anything.
For a lot of these guys, it`s make or break this season, we have 19 year olds chasing now.Theres no need to wait too long for a 23 or 24 year old still to develop.
A player I rate, he`s still largely untested at this level, which is why I think he should stick around. If he goes on loan, it`s an opportunity missed possibly.if he`s not good enough, then he leaves anyway
We have had loads of guys where it`s 1 in 6 games that are good, we don`t need to keep any more.
As for `a confidence player`? I have no idea, but there`s not a lot of room for this in the modern game.

To add a bit more context, Todd has over 130 appearances for the Pars now. Obviously a lot more of these have come in recent seasons, not breaking into the first team really until the 21/22 season. Since then he has made 93 league appearances in 4 years. Thats a decent amount.
He does seem very fit wee eck, but always looks like he is blowing out his backside after 15 minutes. He certainly struggled to get up to speed last season post injuries.

Matty was one of the fittest, if not the fittest guy in the team a few years back. You didn’t need technology to come to that conclusion. What made him effective was his ability to run beyond the front men and get in on goal.
The two injuries he suffered have certainly affected him. I’m not sure why, as he is still young. You’d have to ask him what he thinks has gone wrong.
As some have said, it’s a big season for him. There is an opportunity for an attacking midfield player. We will see if he can grab it.

Maybe just me but he always seemed more effective just playing off the strikers.
He has an instinct for goal. This talk of right back is silly really as someone else commented on.
Depending on whether we sign a striker or Kane is playing , I really think Matty should play high up as Andy is doing and be a foil for the main striker whoever that is.

Even in the last two injury-ravaged (ankle then shoulder) seasons, Matty has managed seven goals from thirty-three Championship starts, which is not earth-shattering but nevertheless a decent return for a midfielder supposedly unproven at Championship level, and who is in and out of a struggling team. By way of comparison, Joe Chalmers failed to score at all in the same number of starts over the same period. Granted the sainted stats may saw that player X wins more aerial duels and player Y has more attempts from outside the box than Todd, but the only stat that really matters is goals, and in my opinion we have few enough goalscoring options without loaning out one of our most reliable contributors to the tally.

There’s loads of football things we will never understand . And we can all put a spin on things. I don’t think Lenny will write off a player with a good number of games over previous seasons and at the same time be happy to see someone coming through - with little. That for me is what is exciting right now. What the front runners can do is make Lenny’s mind up if he really needs any more players. He is clearly now wanting a couple of experienced pros - and in the meantime Andrew Tod is challenging that thought. As might McLeod. In the meantime the Sutherland brothers aren’t in the frame and Connor Young needs another couple of goals for his confidence.

Andy Tod’s got 3 in 3 so far this season, while Matty Todd’s only managed 21 minutes across two appearances (16 v Hearts, 5 v Hamilton). On current form, it’s clear Lennon rates Tod higher and rightly so. If I’m Matty, I’m a bit worried.
I’d be stunned if Matty started ahead of Andy on Saturday. If you’re picking on form, there’s only one choice. It’s up to Matty now, he needs to graft in training and make the most of any minutes he gets to show he’s the better option. Right now, Andy’s earned the jersey.

I know it`s a bit of a cliché, but the last few appearances I`ve seen of Matty he`s almost trying too hard? Attempts a lot of flick ons and low percentage plays which have given away possession needlessly.
There`s certainly a player in there and I think over the season if he stays fit he`ll have a part to play, just needs to remain patient and take his opportunity when it comes. We really need a squad of good quality which has been lacking in recent seasons, very rarely have I thought someone coming off the bench could make a difference in a game.
On Saturday, MacLeod, Bray and to his credit KRH came on and added a bit of energy to the game which put us more on the front foot imo
