Not before time. Russia and Belarus were kicked out straight away after the invasion of Ukraine, while Israel has been allowed to carry on playing. I know the circumstances are different but innocent people are starving and dying as a result of Israel`s determination to kill every last Palestinian in case they`re members of Hamas.

They LITERALLY aren’t. They are supporting humanity. There is nothing humane about what Israel are doing to normal Gazans. And those within the West Bank too.

Disgrace they have been allowed to continue as it is anyway.

That’s to easy a headline to make. It doesn’t include for a whole lot of nuance.

Israel and Palestine both have hands coated in blood. Both populations are as bad as each other in their determination to kill each other. It’s a disgusting situation all round and to be perfectly honest I don’t think we should see teams representing Israel or Palestine at anything until a peaceful solution is found.

In years gone past, I never supported these actions against teams as I separated politics from sport and felt it unfair on the sportspeople involved whether it was Israel, Iran, Russia or whoever was involved in conflict but this time feels much different.

There is a systematic cleansing of a race of people not witnessed since WW2 and abaited by powerful so called allies such as the UK and USA who’ve been arming them for decades.

Israel needs a very clear message sent to them they are going to be ostracised from major sporting events until they actively seek a peaceful solution.

Spot on. I don`t see how anyone can support either side.
The Israeli government is just currently more successful at doing what bothThey and Hamas want to do.

There are also good people in both countries who are opposed to all the violence. Lets not Demonise entire nations for what the people in power do.

That aside, the people of Palestine need immediate help to survive., so we should do everything we can.

IDF…. Defence organization 🤣

Yes it has the word in their name but that’s it. They are an occupying force so that’s the defence argument booted straight into the long grass. They are barbaric bloodthirsty and happily post their actions on social media as they systematically destroy everything in Gaza. Schools, universities, hospitals not to mention innocent people, women and children.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

The discussion is about if Israel should be allowed to continue to be allowed to play in UEFA comps.

That discussion requires context on the situation.

If you don’t like it, avoid the thread. It really is that simple.

Dave for what it is worth, I actually have friends and colleagues on both sides of this complex divide. My question is more about what UEFA or FIFA have discussed on the matter rather than the tragedy unfolding here. I think that is more appropriate a discussion rather than who did what to whom. That is my point for anyone who has misconstrued my comment, especially when people are questioning if I support genocide….

Its interesting the wotds used, definitely the israeli state has hands covered in blood, supported by some if the population, equally hamas. Is that the palestinian state???, have massive blood. On hands. I wontt go into my strong views on blame. But israel being the strong power has even more blame in acting out netanyahu policy of wiping out palestine, as he says palestine shoukd not exist

I`m not going to get involved in the political aspect of this argument, but I will say that my late father served there from 1945 to 1948, during the final years of the British Mandate and just prior to Israel declaring statehood. During these years, more than 1,000 British personnel were killed, by both sides, and it`s been clear since then that the two sides will never reach a mutual agreement.
What is happening in Gaza is awful, but it has to be accepted that Hamas is probably responsible for more Palestinian deaths than the IDF is. "From the River to the Sea" tells us that Hamas, and yes, many Palestinians, will only be happy with the total annihilation of Israel. So, I wasn`t going to get involved in the politics, but will banning sports teams etc really benefit anyone?

Sorry to say but Israel has went way too far this time.
Hamas are not the thousands and thousands of people killed and currently being starved but they are the ones being punished.
Imagine if the UK had massacred the Irish people because of the IRA atrocities.
Same thing is happening there.

Also got to remember that the “official” number of deaths is at 60-70,000 - it’s going to be way higher than that…..90% plus of Gazan infrastructure has been reduced to rubble. The numbers are going to be in the hundreds of thousands, with hundreds of thousands being starved right now. Banning Israeli teams from competing in games is the least anyone can do.

How is that figure nonsense when 80 % of Gaza is rubble .you trying to tell the IDF can flatten most of a region to rubble and no kill thousands of people at the same time ..As of 17 September 2025, over 68,000 people (66,054 Palestinians[4][9] and 1,983 Israelis[c]) have been reported killed in the Gaza war according to the Gaza Health Ministry (GHM) and Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as 217 journalists and media workers,[46][d] 120 academics,[49] and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, a number that includes 179 employees of UNRWA.[50] Scholars have estimated 80% of Palestinians killed are civilians

I think he means it`s much more.

I saw something yesterday where someone was quoting a senior Israeli military source where he thought it was more like 200,000.

Someone said, someone said I know but I wouldn`t be surprised.

I think maybe the health authority only counts actual bodies, not all the ones under the rubble.

I don’t know why anyone would trust Hamas numbers. They’re playing propaganda 100% of the time. I notice they’re not producing the Pallywood reports as much. I wonder if that was back firing on them.

Israel left Gaza in 2005 and since then Hamas built up and done what they done.

I seen someone’s comment comparing between IRA and their atrocities-I agree however we also didn’t watch the bodies of our dead being paraded around the streets while being spat on and struck by those in the crowd. I’m sure those images increased the visceral reaction to the oct 7th attack.

I am still not condoning anything that is going on over there.

Yes, I was meaning it must be much, much more than that

Back on topic.

It looks like Qatar has lost out to the US in European political football.

Israel spared immediate expulsion from UEFA after US pressure - Israel Hayom

Some hope though, in the final paragraph:

So what comes next? Israeli football`s main objective is to secure a place in the Nations League draw in March and participate in the tournament. At the moment, the chances look slim unless the political situation changes and Israel ends its war. Nevertheless, the threat of expulsion could resurface at any moment depending on UEFA`s considerations. Israel may have won this battle, but the war over its place in international football is far from finished.

I noticed that you conveniently left out recent quotes from Israeli government ministers advocating the total destruction of Gaza andPalestinians including women and children.

Hamas responsible for more Palestinians deaths ? Really? Israel has been killing Palestinians indiscriminately for decades.

What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

The IDF are a law unto themselves.

A few years back a British humanitarian aid worker was shot dead by an IDF soldier from a fortified observation post - the UK volunteer was clearly visible wearing a very high viz jacket.

The shooter was a Druse Israeli citizen and the IDF and Israeli government went to extraordinary lengths to avoid identifying him or allowing an investigation by external authorities.

If memory serves they were obliged to let him be named etc. and he was subject to further action.
