2 games now where he has come on the last 5 minutes. Clearly we don`t know what`s going on behind the scenes but whatever Lennons issues with him is, it needs resolved.

I`m not sure he has an `issue ` with him. The question came up after Tuesday`s match -

Have you got to manage the minutes that you give Chris Kane?

“Yes. Because he doesn’t train fully every week and you have to just be careful with him. It’s just difficult pre-season for him with the injuries and previous injuries, we just have to manage him as best we can. That’s what we’re trying to do but obviously you don’t want him depreciating too much either.”

Are there any stats on players scoring with such a short period on the pitch.

Unless it comes with a change of formation, I would imagine 5 minutes doesn`t have much impact generally.

I`m not sure starting as others suggested would be my preferred approach as he`s up again fresh defenders but if we don`t trust him to do more than a few minutes then it just feeling like a gamblers punt to me.

Lennon - " wants players to be in better condition and a lot more robust" .
Whether that was aimed at Kane or generally, it’s something NL has gone on record with twice. Fwiw Kane completed 90mins, 7 times in the Championship last season.
Beggars and choosers though , I’d be using him more.

NL was (correctly) annoyed by our players conditioning when he took over, the sheer amount of stress injuries, I think that`s the reason for pre season camp in Bulgaria, and the ramping up of fitness analysis.

The only reason for Kane playing in the Championship is because of his ongoing injury, if it was 20 years ago he would have been finished a while ago.

As it is, we do have to manage him, we are lucky to have him in my opinion, but I would expect to see him play less, probably his last season.

It`s been money well spent, without his goals last season we would be playing against Stenhousemuir and Cove!

Lennon was annoyed at our players conditioning then proceeded to bring in wanyama.

Without a doubt Kane will be part time next season and we’re left with a part time player for a season again similar to wighton last year.

It’s a shame as he’s saved us last season and on his day is fantastic in what he offers the team in addition to the goals but if 5 minutes is the best Lennon will give him then he’ll never be fit or match sharp and it will be pointless.

Hopefully we can maybe get a loan of someone until Christmas, we look far less effective without a striker in the team.

Kane before the Arbroath game, in the Dunfermline Press.

"After missing both of Dunfermline`s opening league fixtures, due to a knee issue sustained against Hamilton Academical in a Premier Sports Cup tie in July, Kane returned from the bench against Raith and County.

He`s ready to play his part if called upon, adding: "I know my calves now, I know when they`re feeling like they`re going to go, so I can actually say to the staff if I`m feeling it.

"We can kind of manage it a bit now but these knee injuries, or contact injuries, you can`t help. They happen but it happens to everyone.

"You get these so you just need to try and avoid them when you can, and that`s what I`m going to do now, try and avoid these wee injuries, and hopefully keep myself fit for the rest of the season"

just take the fitness concerns on its own which isnt new, to then sign only 1 out and out striker is poor but add in the size and make up of the squad, its ridiculous.

…..and proceeded to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes by saying he wasn’t far away from full fitness and when he did play, on the last game of the season where he looked totally and utterly done and off the pace, Lennon then said he played well and he couldn’t ask for any more out of him because he gave him everything.

This isn’t a dig, I trust Lennon and I love the job he is doing so far, but my point is that he is very very media savvy and I don’t always buy what he says publicly. He has worked at clubs where his comments have come under more scrutiny than here, and he knows fine well what he is doing.

Kane has gone from no preseason games, to playing most of the League Cup matches to picking up what looked like an impact injury against Hamilton, to being a part time trainer and a 5 minute cameo player. I’ve said it before but I’m not sure we’re not being told the full story, probably because Lennon feels like we don’t need to know what’s going on or he doesn’t want to alter others to what is going on.

We’ve just got to accept that it is what it is and we’ve just got to hope that the other players step up and do the business and with Kane, what will be will be.

If Rudden isn’t fit, we need Kane on from the start. 5 minutes at the end is pointless. If we only get 45 mins out of him then so be it. He will work his socks off for that 45 mins and not give the opposing cbs a minutes peace.

We`re often told it`s up to him to get himself fit and now there seems to be a consensus that he should be played from the start to see how he goes as if the need to manage his time was just a figment of somebody`s imagination and his well-being was irrelevant.

The fact is Kane has worked under three managers and two different owners in his short time at the club and no doubt they have all investigated how best to manage his injury situation with no real disagreement over how it should be done. It`s nobody`s fault, it`s just the way things are.

You’ve got to wonder if he couldn’t have managed 20 minutes or so against Ayr? Surely that wouldn’t be stretching it if he’s really struggling. 5 minutes just doesn’t give him enough time to get his first few touches in and shake off the rust.

St Johnstone clearly saw this coming and moved him on, and now Lennon’s dealing with the exact same headache. When a manager is openly saying “he doesn’t train fully every week,” that’s about as big a red flag as you’ll get in terms of reliability.

Lennon of course would love a fit and firing Kane leading the line, but if he’s only good for 10 minute cameos and can’t put a proper shift in during the week, then what’s the point? We’re crying out for experience and consistency up top now that Rudden is out.

He is probably one of our higher earners which make him more of a burden than an asset.

For what it`s worth he is a top bloke after meeting him a the third kit launch but that only goes so far. Sentiment doesn’t win you points or get you top 4.

We need players Lennon can trust to start games, hold the ball up, bring others into play. If Kane can’t even guarantee training sessions, then how can he ever guarantee 90 minutes on a Saturday? That’s the brutal reality. He has played 11 games where he appears for 45 minutes or less scoring 2 goals v morton (01/03/25).

Right now he feels like a luxury squad filler when what we need is someone dependable leading the line in the absence of Rudden.

c'mon the pars

In his preview on COWS NL says Rudden is likely to be out for 4 to 8 weeks. Cooper won`t be fit for this weekend but his injury is not thought to be long-term.

He seemed quite cautious about using the loan market but didn`t dismiss it.

Thanks, wee eck. Obviously the manager knows best, but, surely we must look to the loan market, given our shortage of fit strikers? We also need to know what the heck is going on with Connor Young.

I saw him limping when I drove past eep last week but Connor Young has yet to show me he is anywhere near the standard we require to offer a threat at the top end.

In this weeks interview, Lennon has said they have no exact date for his return from injury but words to the effect of that it’s going to be a long one as he has “bad muscle injury”.

I think Young has had ample opportunity to prove himself to be a first team regular for us, but has failed, so far. With what we have seen, I don’t think he is the answer at the moment but hopefully with room and space to develop, he’ll get there.

Slightly unfair on young buster. Don’t think he has been involved in a game with the likes of Jefferson, McLeod, amade, Fraser and rudden where we might have actually create something (including space) for him to see what he can do. He’s certainly never had a chance to score the types of chances we’ve created for Tod for example.

If he’s injured it’s terrible timing as he may have got another chance but think Lenny not happy with his performance levels so surprised he’s not been loaned out and appears way out the picture.

Shankland springs to mind as someone who never really delivered at EEP, only to spring to life at Ayr. Not sure what the catalyst will be for Young but as someone above suggests the supply and quality to the forwards is improving all the time, let’s give him the opportunity.

I’ve not been impressed with Young since he signed, however….and I’m not going to tell Lennon how he should be making players…if there is an issue with his attitude and application, then Lennon should be sitting him down and saying, he’s got 10 weeks to go and make a name for himself here and basically secure his short term future at the club and see if he raises to it. He might, he might not, but it puts the ball firmly in his court.

CY scored and played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Ross Co yesterday, which suggests NL hasn`t written him off. With a squad as big as ours there will always be players who appear to be out of favour.

Wonder if any of the Ross County players would become available on loan as they are previous management signings.

They seemed to be signing everybody and awbody, so wage bill will be high, including previous managers pay off.

Nicky Clarke springs to mind, who only got a game because his father was on management team!🤔🤣

So he would have been our top scorer, his overall play wasnt amazing at times but he did know how to find the back of net

Clarke was a good player for us, the problem was that he couldn`t play up front on his own, or as a wide forward, so he didn`t suit the formation we were playing most of the time here. Him and McManus were a decent pair when played togeher if i remember right

Lennon`s 3-5-2 formation would`ve probably suited him tbh but I haven`t seen Clarke play in years so not sure what kind of player he is now

Seen a few Motherwell fans mention Moses Ebiye as a player that would do well in the Championship. Still without a club.

Might be one of these guys asking for 2-3 times the going rate that Cook was talking about though. Only 3 goals in 27 last season. 6 foot plus striker so maybe more of a target man. Guessing Barney Stewart is there for that role.

Just cos you’re a big strapping laddie doesn`t make you good in the air! As we well know.

Need to also be strong and know how to use it to hold off your man etc. This is one of things a young team like us is finding in this league and why we’re needing that bit more experience up front otherwise the ball may well just keep coming back.
