I’m engrossed in the Winter Olympics - love the downhill slalom, ski jumping and ice skating. ⛸️ ⛷️
I’ll be on live updates duty later at EEP. Nice weather for ducks as I watch Aldis car park, fill up like a swimming pool, through my kitchen windae. 🦆
Team selection up around 2pm.
Mon the Pars.

I hope he puts a strong team out which I’m sure he will.
I’d like to see Kane get a start today alongside Rudden with Carey tucked in just behind.
Gilmour in the middle with Amade makes sense to me, I’m sure Turley will be give minutes today also.
I would change the defence too much, possibly see Kearney coming on for Todd.
As for the keeper does he stick with Mehmet after last week or is Terrell given the nod again.
I suppose time will tell.
Really looking for a fast start today and show our quality from the off.

Ivthink its all very well knocking the ball around at the back and playing into feet but its one speend and predicatble. Somethimes you need to knock the ball into space in the final third, and look for runners to create movement. We are making it hard work down the wings, amd when a cross comes in we arent getting on the end of it. The Rudden Morrison partnership isnt working for me. We should be a bit more direct through the middle. Big improvement needed second half if we are to win this game.

We need to get the finger oot , we are so lethargic we need to up the tempo and force kelty onto the back foot and into making mistakes
we just need to watch we do not get caught out on the counter attack , we need to be switched on as that is often our achilles heel

Paying the price for not bringing anyone with pace and the trickery to beat a man so far under Lenny, never look likely to get in behind teams. Morrison is all workrate but very little else so far.
As usually everything played in front of the team so very easy to defend again and no one has any ideas about what to do.
Not convinced in the 352 formation but we don’t have natural width and any wingers to play 442. Fraser and Todd are not wingers.

A while I go, I challenged someone when they said Lennon has nothing to prove at this level. The rationale for my challenge was that he inherited vastly superior squads at the only two clubs he`s been successful with - Celtic and Hibs. I got pelters for it at the time, but part of me is still not convinced by him.

You’re 100% correct. Closer to the bottom than the top of the league, recruitment not good enough either. 2 goalkeepers and still playing Mehmet up to today. Strikers not good enough, granted a couple have worked in Gilmour, Fraser and JCM. Dozens of player have come and gone from last season and this seasons “loans” miles off it and just taking space.
No excuse for not winning today. Jury’s most definitely out for what we see to be spending on management and squad.

Poor first half, better second and in the end 2-0 about right. Agree regarding the lack of player that can dribble and beat a man. Great balls in from Kearney and Cooper for the goals, Kane doing what he does well. Thought Matty Todd was pretty lively, getting forward, looking to play forward passes. Carey was poor, can (hopefully) only get better. Morrison a bit unlucky, movement and touch is good - unlike most of our forward players. Should have had an assist for Kane`s `first`.

We have enough players to put the ball in the net ... for me too many short passes in midfield. Why play Amade and Gilmour together. Both are great - but they are typically a 5-10 yard passer after mopping up a ball.
Morrison was lively- he will come very good soon. The back three are solid - love that combination. Albeit JCM was a bit quiet today.

That was hard work—and for much of the game a very hard watch. For a large chunk of the game, Kelty`s desciplined defence held their line very well, and effectively man marked us out of it in midfield.
It was only when Kearney and Kane came on that we saw our tempo lift and Kelty start to tire. Inevitably, the goals arrived, thanks to fine work by Kearney down the right and Kane`s lethal finishing. He could have had a hat trick. I really don`t know what was wrong with the first—it looked like it went into the net.
Clearly, Kane gets the plaudits today, but Ngwenya continues to impress. He comes across as a natural leader, constantly urging his fellow team mates to pull their socks up. I think he has found his place in the team now.
But what`s happened to Caceres? Didn`t even make the bench.

Caceres wants to go home.
We struggle against teams that come to defend. No idea how to get through a wall of defenders.
Need more movement and pace. Morrison tries.
We always play better against teams that have a go.
Once we scored and they had to come out it was all over.

Difficult to play well when your opposition has 11 players behind the ball all the time.
Made the game a really difficult watch, we lacked any pace to really generate any momentum, really slow
Fans were booing when Lennon subbed Morrison off for Kearney when it was that sub and bringing Kane on that won us the match.
Lennon earned this one.

The team setup was wrong in the first half. We struggled to break them down and at times looked genuinely surprised that Kelty came here to sit in. Amade and Gilmour are too similar to play together, especially in games like this they are both are defensive minded midfielders, and Carey offered next to nothing alongside them. Ideally, we need pace or a proper No.10 to give us a focal point when teams drop deep.
The second half followed a similar pattern. We continued to struggle, with Morrison our only real threat, although even he didn’t offer a great deal of end product. Kearney coming on was the right decision, but the player coming off should have been Matty Todd. There were far too many basic individual errors with simple passes going astray, little pressure on the ball, and too many players unwilling to take on their man.
The positives are slim, but we are through and that’s about it. We lack pace and ideas when asked to break teams down. Marginal improvements will be needed if we want anything from Thistle next week.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

The boos were probably that Todd stayed on.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Eh? Matty was pretty good today, the pick of our midfielders.

It’s funny hearing others opinions on the game because thought Todd was honking today again.
Deliveries poor, misplaced passes and always passing back when having the option to go forward. Lennon was screaming at him at one point for exactly that.
Kearney for Todd I thought was a cert of a half time sub.

I think Tod had a poor game, not Todd.
Matty put in some good crosses from his corners in the second half, he got forward a number of times and thought he linked up well with Kearney.

Nothing wrong with Todd at all today. Always thought he’s more comfortable in the centre of the pitch, which is where he went when Kearney came on. Would like to see him get a run in there behind the strikers- that’s where he’s most effective.

Yes I agree. In the first half Matty Todd was shouting for the ball and not getting it or the pass to him was poor. I thought when Kearny came on and he moved into the middle of the park we benefitted from his movement forward and running through the middle. That was something we had been crying out for all game.

Hopefully Zak Rudden is okay. I thought it looked like a dislocation.
I was sitting down that end and I didnt think the ball crossed the line to be fair.
Fair play to Kelty today, they made it difficult for us.

Thought Matty was quite ineffective today. Kearney much better in that position

Lennon looked scunnered at the end when he was walking off? Don’t know if the fans played a part in that but the last two games have been bowfin. No entertainment whatsoever and that’s ultimately what people pay for.

Matty Todd was average in the first half but in the second half he put in numerous great corners and when moved into midfield thought he was excellent.
Thought amade was the best player today. Kearney impressed when he came on.
A.Tod has been woeful recently, offers nothing to the team or the game.

At the end of the day we got the result that mattered. Still too passive in our play, and we dont seem able to switch ot up at the moment. Matty Todd was taking a bit of stick from supporters in front of me which I thought unnecessary. He seemed to repond to them a couple of times, but that can affect your concentration and morale. When he switched to the centre he was able to get more involved in the game and mave forward runs and passes. Personally I thnk thats his best position

I do wonder how much say Lennon has in signings? Yeah I fancy he wanted carey but will he have been keen on turley for example? He’ll know the way out of this league is not with raw youngsters.
How much of the budget is going on Jeffy who you’re starting to wonder if we’ll ever see again.
We must have the biggest wage budget in the league (or 2nd at worst) and we still lack quality in the key areas, we’re just not scoring enough and we are still losing more than we win.
It will be quite inconsistent for the remainder of the season and well very likely fall short and it will be an interesting summer of comings and going ahead.
Oh for a loan like hammil who could actually beat a man and open up games for us, heck even dom Thomas had more ideas and quality on the ball when what we currently have.
We’re in the quarters so we can move on and hope this sparks another wee run of decent performances

Poor performance as a team today.
Only three players get pass marks really and they were all off the bench.
On the bright side, we are into the Q finals of the big cup!
Kearney changed the game with his determination to get forward, drive at the defence and get the ball in the box. Up until then we were far too slow, ponderous and negative.
Kane is still lethal when you get balls into the box towards him.
Cooper did well to pick Kane out for the second, waited exactly the right amount of time to play the perfect ball at the perfect moment.
All three should start going forward if available.

Chris Kane proved his worth today with two strikers goals having come on at half time. Its the first time in a quarter final for a very long time so thats to be applauded.
We looked a bit edgy today, but with that win, the team should take confidence for the next game.

Dreadful first half but a decent recovery in the second. I found it funny hearing James McPake on radio on the way home saying that our play was too slow in the first half. He was right, but that first half was exactly the same as 90% of the games when he was our manager. Strange how he sees it so differently now.
I don`t think Todd was that great on the right, but he was much better and more effective when he moved into the middle after the second half subs. He struggled a bit defensively in the first half spell when Kelty were on top and that`s happened a few times in recent games when teams have got behind us on that side.
I was impressed at how well Kelty defended today. In the first half they were organised and also maanged to get forward and threaten. They sturggled to get up the park in the second half and the goal eventually came, really as a result of pressure. If you force a team to keep on defending, it often does eventually open up for a relatively simple goal.
On the shot off the bar, I had an OK view of it and my thought was `very close but probably not over`. If it did cross the line, it wasn`t by much and not really one the linesman could give.
With the odd incident where one of the Kelty coaches stopped the ball before it went out, I`m pleased to find that law 9 says I was correct in saying it should have been an indirect free kick rather than a dropped ball. Not that big a deal, but a nice reminder that sometimes a fan can be right and a ref wrong, despite what our resident referee likes to tell us.

2-0. Job done. Pleased with that and I’m looking forward to the draw for the next round.
We do look rather shot shy at times. We can deliver good crosses but we aren’t doing it often enough. We put ourselves in the position then pass our way back out. Same with shooting, put ourselves in position but not pulling the trigger 🤷🏻♂️

There was also that incident 20 mins into the first half when the ball looked like it was going to bounce into our net after a high ball from Terrell was blocked. I was watching through my fingers!

It wasn’t the greatest half of football but kelty were making themselves difficult to break down and we just needed to keep playing. I don’t get half time boos especially when we are generally in control.

Boos at half time , when it was still 0-0, really boils my blood. Ok we’re not happy with performance but booing the players at that point, get a feckin grip. Lennon called it out in his interview, rightly so. Get behind the team eh, it’s a 90 minute game

any side will struggle when players take the ultra safe option never mind the safe option especially in the first half, the second was a little bit better and enough eventually to get through but still tough going.
if Rudden is going to be out for the season, might have to find another striker from somewhere

Boos at half time would be unnecessary if that was the game right off the back of the 3 wins. But after the performance last week and today’s willingness to move the ball about our 3 centre half’s with very little attacking intent - I understand the boos. Not saying I agree, but I understand. A cup game albeit but that was against a team ravaged by injuries/suspension/cup tied players and almost cut loose at the bottom of league 1.
Creativity and imagination going forward is definitely what we lack though. Jef must be really struggling adapting to the championship if Carey is so easily walked into the team. You can see Carey has been a player but the wand of a left foot that was banded about on arrival is yet to be seen!

Terrible game of football, but I feel that was all down to the way Kelty set up with 11 men behind the ball for the majority of the game. Through to the next round that’s the main thing.
Said last week when you need a goal, you have to turn to Chris Kane, no matter what your thoughts are regarding his fitness. Surprised he never started today. But he’ll most certainly start next week.
Strange he subbed Morrison for Kearney, would’ve just done a straight swap for Todd at RWB.
Thought A.Tod had another poor game when he came on, too easily shoved off the ball, somebody get that laddie in the gym ffs.

I’ve deliberately waited awhile before posting, although I’m delighted to be in the last 8 and although I absolutely love Lennon and the squad, I have to say that, like others, I found it a hard watch today.
A lot of why went on has already been said, however the First Half just did not work. I’m going to start with Carey, he’s either done or he is well off the sharpness required to play at the moment, whatever it is, it was the right thing taking him off at Half Time however it was great to see Amade back in and hitting the levels that he did in the early part of the season. A lot of the play went around Amade & Gilmour however when he got on the ball he used it well and looked like the player we all know he can be, and along with Gilmour, off the ball he has the dig that’s needed.
A lot of people have commented on the slowness of things and I had to agree, it’s absolutely killing me. If we are going to play this way, it has to be done quick. Yes we are a work in progress but we need to be doing things quicker to stretch the game and have runner in behind. Morrison did that well, and I was surprised he was hooked and Rudden was trying but again…I have to say that I’m not sure he is of the right quality, if I’m being honest.
I hope Rudden is ok, of course I do. He hit the ground right in front of where I was sitting and I knew right away that it was a bad one. That aside, I thought he had a poor game. Won nothing in the air, doesn’t hold the ball up, doesn’t spin and defender and has a first touch that was heavy like an elephant.
When Rudden went off, the move that I thought would happen is Kane coming on, but we had to wait until Half Time for that and I’m so glad it was done. I’ve said it time and time and time again, but Kane is still our best Striker and still amongst the best in the league. Lennon has got to utilise him and get him on the park, any way he can.
Was it over, was it not…..where I was sitting, the first bounce was definitely over but fair play to Kelty for playing on. I think it was unfortunate for us that the linesman wasn’t up with play but thankfully we weren’t relying on it.
Lennon said in his after match interview that he thought the Defence was solid again….sorry, but I have to disagree with that, First Half, I thought they were uncharacteristically suspect and shakey and Second Half, Kelty didn’t really threaten them with their own phases of play, so they dealt with it comfortably.
I’ve mentioned Kane already, but the game changed through him and Kearney. Kearney was positive down the right side and, although a few people on Facebook may disagree, his balls into the box were an upgrade on what Todd was doing. I wa actually surprised Morrison was sacrificed for Kearney but to be fair, Todd looked more comfortable and lively when he was moved into the middle.
Delighted to get through but work still needs to be done with a game plan that works against teams that sit on. All too often we are slow to attack, we turn in or play back or we over play, which lets teams off the hook. We got away with it today, but surely we are better than that…..

I think we`re getting there.
We seem to have a back three that NL is happy with. John Tod offers a bit of competition for them too.
I`m a bit in love with Alfons, but I think he should always start with Gilmour. The question is which other attacking midfielder should play with them. I reckon Matty Todd can do that job.
Fraser obviously has his place, but Kearney should start every week.
That leaves any two from AJT, Kane, Rudden, Cooper, etc up front, but if you get the other nine right the front two just have to tap in the goals.
