A totally unrecognisable team Clarke said he’d put out. I’d say this is very recognisable. Just a friendly to be fair. I’ll probably switch it off at half time.

Scotland qualify for nothing for decades. Now that we are getting to tournaments again it’s not excitement I feel, it’s utter dread. We are still miles off it where it matters most on the pitch. Can’t we just produce a Bale or a Lewandowski? Please!

Looking at the play off finals shows just how well we have done to qualify.

And our record against some of those teams isn`t too bad.

I`m happy if we get there and just put the effort in. I`m not expecting anything amazing given the quality of some other teams. Put a shift in and I`ll be satisfied.

He was decent enough and done more than Adams. Was better than dykes was against Japan too. We don’t have great striker options no matter who’s playing.

Ultimately it’s our lack of an even half decent striker that will always be our undoing.

I like Dykes but when a striker of his limitations makes it to 50 international appearances then that tells you all you need to know. Better second half from Scotland. We were aggressive and put in an effort but couldn’t score to save ourselves.

Absolutely toothless, only one side looked like scoring in the second half. Countless crosses that were easily defended.

Quite wasteful in the final third. A number of times we got into an area where it would have been worth having a ping but instead an extra pass was made. A frustrating watch.

I saw the BBC headline that Foden started as a `false 9` tonight. Maybe we just start all of our very good midfielders with McTominay as the most advanced?

Ivory Coast aren`t as good as Japan but they`re a decent side and ranked well above us in the FIFA rankings. We need McGinn and McTominay to stay fit! Surprised Lennon Miller didn`t get a run out.

I thought Hirst was actually ok tonight, and Conway has done well at Middlesbrough. Neither are earth shattering and wouldn’t be surprised if both missed out, but they are certainly worth a look and COULD be key players in time.

Just back from the game: first thing that I would say is what a magnificent stadium the Hill Dickinson is. Everton have managed to maintain the feel of a football venue unlike other modern stadiums e.g. West Ham and the view from all corners is excellent.

While the football from Scotland lacked a cutting edge there were a few performances that caught the eye. I thought Hyam at centre back was a step up from Hanley or McKenna and Gilmour brings a fluidity to our play that could be exploited with Gannon-Doaks pace and a half decent striker. Which brings me to Dykes and Hirst, sadly both are second rate, neither can hold the ball up to any degree and offer little threat in front of goal. If this is the best we have then Barney Stewart must have a chance of pushing into the squad. I really don’t see him as any worse than either of these two. Goalkeeper is also a worry 2nd and 3rd choice at club level and Scott Bain has to be a concern. Liam Kelly looked totally out of his depth.

Finally I’m looking forward to watching Ivory Coast in the World Cup. A mile ahead of us technically and physically and never really got out of second gear all night and their fans were a joy.

Just back at hotel and agree, what a stadium! Can`t wait to come back for a Toffees match.

Said before the games I`d forgoe the results if Clarke tinkered with the line ups and gave some fringe / squad players much needed game time.

Tonight ticked that box but not much else to shout about over the 2 games, although I thought we were decent for the last 20 mins or so tonight.

I`d take us losing every friendly going if it means we keep qualifying for tournaments.

As an Evertonian - just wow - I`ll ALWAYS love the Grand Old Lady, but that is an absolute stonker of a ground - I was high up in the South upper corner & it was superb! Very steep tho - was thankful for the handles at the end of each row but yeah - a belter 😍💙👌🏼

Absolutely pointless getting Irving and Miller to fly over from Czechia and Italy respectively to not get on the park at all. Bringing on MacLean and McGinn last night was a bit of a waste. Thought McCrorie, Hyam and Hirst all did OK and have probably secured spaces in the squad. Hopefully that spells the end for Ralston, who shouldn`t have been in this squad anyway seeing as he`s now fourth choice for Celtic. Still pass the ball far too slowly, far too often we look backwards and we rely on moments of magic from the likes of McTominay and McGinn to do anything. It wasn`t as bad as Saturday but it still worries me somewhat. I can see Clarke trying to shitfest a 1-0 v Haiti and either doing that and not qualifying on Goal Difference or even worse and not winning, meaning we go into panic mode for the two more difficult fixtures.

a useful exercise and good to get players together ahead of June. Thought Hirst was very good last night, holding ball up, couple of good touches to beat a man and get into space, sadly snatched at the 2 chances that fell his way and ballooned wide/over. Mccrorie was absolutley done for pace on the counter attack as he chased back a quick throw out from the keeper for the goal. Ivorians looked fast on the break, a speed/intensity we lacked.

A change in system last night to what we are maybe used to. Would certainly rather be in the Clarke mould of getting results/qualifying and having a p!ss poor friendly record (10 years since last home friendly win!) than the Levein model of wining friendlies but doing nothing in qualifying.

One thing I think Clarke is guilty of is showhorning players into the team. Do we get the best out of Mcginn/McTominay/Christie/Gilmour by asking them to play in different roles than they do at their clubs.

If you are going to play a back 3, pick players who want to defend 1st and foremost - not go bombing forward and be in front of the attacking midfielders like Tierney was for the goal.

Whilst I like Tierney, I am still not convinced him and Robertson can play in the same team. They both do the same job for their respective teams, aka get beyond the midfield but have strong defensive players covering for them as required.

Agreed, could not understand Clarke not giving 1 minute of play to Lennon or Irving. Guess that confirms they are definitely not in his plans.

I thought Bain played reasonably well in the 45 minutes he was given. Didn`t understand why Kelly started before him, considering he has only played 10 games since signing for Rangers (18 or so months ago) and none this season.

Lack of goals will be the issue for Scotland. Shankland is probably the best bet. Hirst huffed and puffed last night but has very little quality there and Dykes is much the same.

We heard McGinn talking about the booing saying if we commit to attacking we leave ourselves open. Clarke has got it ingrained into the squad to play negative, passive safety first regardless of the occasion or opposition. Doesnt matter who is up front, the same mentality remains.
