It`s Friday night btw.
Rovers we`re apparently absolutely dreadful on Saturday. They MIGHT catch Saints on holiday if they win tonight. Then they play County at home who are still desperate for points to finish 9th.
We also play a team with nothing to play for on Saturday and our last game is at home to a team who`ll be resting players for the 1st leg of the play off against us hopefully!
If we can`t get a point from those 2 we don`t deserve the play offs.

Lennon mentioned in one interview over the weekend he rolled his ankle during the week. Guessing it’s a bit worse than hoped, or just trying to allow him time off it and recovery time.
Fraser has mentioned he had an ankle knock before Sat too, but powered through. Wanted to play tonight but Lennon/medics told him to rest.

I thought Amade got a hold of the game by the scruff when he came on, and Kano did well, battling and using his extra nouse and skills, even Kearney got a boost with them on, and a fightback looked possible. But we kept giving the ball away/ they were quicker than us to the ball/ it always seemed to break in their favour and they pressed like ferrets. we made two howlers that led within seconds to their goals. Nuru was giving me the fear. We missed Jeremiah, for sure. No lack of effort, just some bad decisions, lack of cohesion, and a better all-round display from the away team.
Better games and better days to come for us.

Oh well...
I thought we started well with the 442, but Kearney was clearly having a mare at right back so had to change it, and Matty on the left was a bit of a waste with no left foot. Then losing Tash just made it even more difficult...
Ref again was frustrating, allowing them to manhandle us, but punishing us as soon as we tried anything back. I didnt see the incidents off the ball, so can`t comment on them, but felt the ref didn`t want to spoil Saints party...

I thought the first half was decent enough, but we were clearly knackered after Saturday, a few iffy performances, as expected.
Tash was looking really good, so it`s a pity he was injured again - he`s just coming onto a game, and this for him is bad timing.
Morrison huffed and puffed, felt Ngwenya was decent - he doesn`t hide. Kearney, doesn`t seem to have a lot of game awareness which is a worry, maybe it`s confidence, but he`s in space plenty of times but not looking for the ball, or he gets the ball and looks behind himself.
Not horrible, to be expected I suppose, were running on fumes, and it`s St Johnstone`s party

Plenty off it tonight, Kearney yet to convince defensively, Abuldai a rare bad game and Morrison who might have been forgiven on Saturday in the circumstances showed his usual energy with little end product.
A bit concerned that Lennons preferred system with marauding fullbacks is going to be nullified by the pitch. The central areas look to have some growth but the flanks and particularly in front of the stand is playing like a beach.
Come the playoffs I can see the better performances coming away from East End Park. Hopefully by Saturday we’ll have the starting XI wrapped up in cotton wool.

I thought St Johnstone dominated physically tonight. We were jaded but they are also all built like brick shizzle houses and were fresher having not playing at the weekend.
They played the best football (helped by our mistakes) they have in any of the games against us and are deserved champions over the piece.
This will sound like sour grapes but unless they do some serious business this summer then they`ll be back down. Their physical dominance won`t count for as much in the premiership and VAR will work against them. They also aren`t a young group (who will continue to improve) and with McPake off to Hearts, Steward loan ending, Diabate you would imagine will attract interest, etc I think they might struggle.

End of the day we lost at home to the Champions, who were all over us tonight.
Their last game was on the 11th April (10 days ago) while we have played 2 games in that time including 120 minutes on Saturday.
Yes we didn’t create any chances at all but I suppose the fact J. Tod and Morrison got more game time and seemed to come through unscathed will be a benefit come the playoffs.
Raith won’t win on Friday at the title party so that’ll confirm our top 4, we can then play the kids/fringe players and manage the squad in preparation for the playoff push…….
Oh yeah and a Scottish Cup Final.

The only complaints I could have about last night were the NW water boiler not being turned on, so getting a stone cold Bovril and the referee being abjectly useless.
How a saints player has two hands on a player pushing him backwards on his heels is not a foul is a nonsense.
Saints roughed us up last night and the ref gave zero protection.
Congratulations to them as they deservedly won the title as the most consistent team and it is telling that the top 2 teams are the most cynical rough housers across the league

Understandably, the players found it difficult to get themselves up for this game aftèr the emotional high of Saturday. Unfortunately we could find ourselves in the same position if we were to get to the final of the play-offs with the first leg scheduled for the Tuesday after the Cup Final and the second leg three days later.
More immediately, do we risk Gilmour in either of the next two games as he`s one booking away from a two-game suspension which I presume would be carried over into the play-offs?
Less immediately, we need cover for Fraser if he is unavailable in future. The whole team lacked balance without him last night.

Yes, they need support from those around them rather than being isolated. There was an improvement when Kane came on because he has the attributes to win physical and aerial duels which Morrison lacks. He`s shown he can score goals but his confidence seems to have taken a dent since he got injured.

I worry about morrison though, has the potential to be useful, but he not, is that lack of match time or lack of service, not sure. But he had a chance against Falkirk and again last night, but his composure failed at last minute, dont think his size helps him either. Heres hoping he gets back in the groove as we need all the strikers we have for what could be seven games in a short period.

"That`s hardly a reason for denying him game time. Strikers need service and it was sadly lacking last night."
He received quite a few passes - easily dispossessed by defenders.
There`s more to forward play - not just running about to little effect.
Easily dispossessed!
Aye, by two guys twice his size who were both on him as soon as he got the ball.

Yes probably a game too late to be deciding your own fate otherwise expect a 5 minute cameo on Saturday with a cynical foul.

Hmmm! Maybe Gilmour should take a yellow v QP. Where we should get the point we need.
Miss the game v Arbroath and first leg of the playoffs.
Back to win the second leg and safe for Partick.

With all the hoopla over semi-finals and penalties and play-offs and what-not the result wasn`t unexpected.
I imagine the players` heads will be full of mince and their legs like jelly. not a good combination.
Any word on Tash? He looked a bit upset as he came off (albeit under his own steam).

I don`t agree with the adverse comments about Morrison. a few players last night had dodgy moments, but he wasn`t near the top of my mare list. I`m always pleased to see he`s in the team.
Otherwise - does anyone remember the Pars losing 2 nil at home to Airdrie shortly afore the cup final in 1968? I do! It was murder - but all was forgiven soon after. Forget the result last night. Unfortunately our current fixture congestion is, I believe, way beyond anything our mighty men had to deal with back yonder.

any ban will be in the playoff games with the final league game being on the Friday night. he had been on 10 yellows for a couple of months and not picked up another until last night, got to hope can get through a spell like that again

Tash needs to get a pair of shinguards on, running about with ankle socks on certainly attracts attention!
Certainly when I played he would be the first target.

Maybe part of the reason NL put Gilmour on the bench last night was to mitigate the possibility of a yellow card - then Tash got injured quite early and he had to play for an hour!
I can`t say I have much sympathy for a player who picks up 12 YCs in a League season. That`s an average of one every 3 games. Even allowing for a couple of soft ones it should be possible to show enough discipline to avoid getting into that situation. I think Scott Brown of the Rovers has managed to pick up 12 cautions two seasons in a row and we all know how reckless he is.

That assumes we can afford to miss him in the first playoff game and still beat Arbroath over two legs - that’s a very risky mindset.
Then obviously playing PT becomes academic.

An earlier post says any ban would start 7 days after the final YC so, if he was booked against QP, he would be eligible for the Arbroath league game but be suspended for the two play-off games.

Well I never said that but you did.
He’s a good positional player who goes into the right areas but his final product was woeful the last two games.
He must be easy to defend against for a full back in the opposition in that form.

Saw a stat earlier thats the tenth time a team has managed to gain promotion immediately following relegation since the turn of the millennium, with the Pars on that list from 1999/2000 season.

St Johnstone are the best in the league by some distance. Although they didn’t play well last night, they still managed a positive result and that’s what good teams do. As I said, I expected us to rest a few players, and that proved to be the case. We just couldn’t get anything going in the final third, but it is what it is.
Give me the Scottish Cup over the league any day of the week. Promotions come and go, but it would be something really special if we could win the Scottish Cup. I do think we’ll get the point required to reach the playoffs, and regardless of the outcome of the final and the playoffs, we’ve had a successful season.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Yup - I`d absolutely sack off the play offs to win the Cup.
We can win the league next year - Livvy are mince & we have a good record against them.
Think if we get past Arbroath, Thistle will likely beat us anyway but at least the games will fill up some of the time before the final & losing to Thistle gives us a full free week before Hampden.
I mean I`d bite your hand off for both but that`s a tough ask for any squad.

Worth noting that the last 6 teams to achieve this have managed it in the previous 8 seasons.
This perhaps indicates: a) better revenue from being in the Premiership, and b) sizeable parachute payments being made to teams who are relegated.
Seems like most teams recently have tried to use that budget to their advantage; however, it could easily go pear-shaped, ala Ross County.

Will never forget the disappointment of not seeing the cup being paraded to our fans because of a ban from the SFA after the presentation, a ban instigated by the behaviour of the scum from Glasgow over that season.58 years ago and nothings changed.
