Hopefully the players missing from last weekend will be utilised tonight, Par. As you say going into the next game strong too would be beneficial. A win please!

League 1 a bit intriguing. Got to hope for a Hamilton v Clyde final. If only for the benefit of future pub quiz setters.

It isn`t do-or-die tonight and part of me thinks we shouldn`t go all out for a win, but another part of me thinks this is the game with our biggest advantage in terms of freshness...

A 3-0 would be fantastic, means we could rest a couple of key players going into Partick.

That said I think it will be a close game as most playoff games tend to be!

We`ve been the better team so far but Arbroath making it tough, they`ve managed to keep Matty & Fraser quiet so far. We look more dangerous through the middle though, Amade & Gilmour playing really well, Kane too

Some nice play at times by the Pars, and a great goal by Chris Kane after good lead-up work. I feel we should be at least a couple of goals ahead at this point. But, too many final passes have been wayward.

Arbroath are by no means out of this—Ryan Dow still poses a threat. We need to be careful and hopefully get another quick goal in the second half to settle our nerves.

A very strange performance bar the goal we`ve been "meh" not necessarily bad but not our usuall self with fluid football. Matty hasn`t been in the game, Amade very wasteful too. Hopefully we can get a second and go up with a couple for advantage but Arbroath as expected making it very difficult.

Take a scrappy 1-0 win against a team that finished above us in the league no problem but that second half was an uncomfortable watch. Another day we`d have not got away with the win.

Unfortunately, most of what we did well in the first half we stopped doing after the break. Passing and crossing were especially dire 2nd half.

I guess NL likes Morrison for the energy and pest factor he brings. For me, he was largely a headless chicken with no end product. I thought he was winger (?) but he doesn`t seem to have much pace or a `trick` to get by anyone. Hopefully he plays blinder on Friday.

Hope to play better for longer on Friday. COYP.

We had at least four clear cut chances in the match and should have been out of sight already.

Our midfield seemed to disappear at times. As someone else posted - Hammy might have helped there. I knew Arbroath would be quick and dangerous on the break, and they had the better of us in the second half but they had little cutting edge.

I think maybe our players were a bit over-anxious, being strong favourites tonight on our own pitch.

But we won without playing very well, which gives me encouragement that we can play better at Arbroath and get the result.

I`d give pass marks to almost everyone. Great to see Chris Kane on from the start and playing most of the game.

Matty Todd put a lot of good balls in, but Robbie Fraser wasn`t as much of a threat as he can be. Morrison was the only fail for me. He looks dangerous in moments, but it rarely leads to a chance for someone else.

Same team on Friday with Cooper in for Morrison please. It`s do or die. Take a risk on Charlie getting booked and then worry about the consequences later.

Can see why Arbroath finished 3rd. Picked up most of the second balls and made it a very scrappy game. Glad to get out of it with a 1-0 advantage but it means we’ll need to score up there.

Thought the ref was atrocious for both teams, seemed to let everything go at first then went full circle and was blowing for the softest of fouls.

We’ve got a habit of scoring at Arbroath so hopefully that continues.

Thought after the goal so early we could’ve scored one or two more in that first half, but we were very pedestrian, we were deliberately slowing the play down at times.

Thought to myself we’ll be going for it second half with Arbroath a bit more leggy but they were excellent and we did well to get out of that with a W.

Morrison had a really poor game, again.

Personally thought Amade first half was superb, don’t know what happened the second half though!

Thought amade was excellent in the first half but fell off a bit in the 2nd.
We need to be better when on the counter, either the decision is the wrong one or the execution is poor.

Also thought the ref was atrocious.

Yes, I`m a fan of Cooper, there`s a lot to his game

Arbroath are tricky all right, and second half the past cked up a lot- can easily see why they finished third.

Job half done though, plenty decent performances, first legs can be a bit cagey, and this wasn`t a classic- I was glad to get back to the house! Heating on...

We failed to get a grip of midfield second half and O’Brien should have been at least yellow carded for his two footed challenge into Todd’s back in front of the NW. The ref I thought was dreadful.
We were hanging on a bit at the end and Arbroath looked more likely to score. Arbroath were fast and direct in possession and we were slow and more often took the easy option of passing backwards. Again I thought our best players were in defence and Mullen was my MoM.

Very positive interview from NL after the match. Big praise for Chris Kane and Andrew. I think he`s right to be so positive, we won the match and our players all got experience of the opposition. As he said, our men were maybe a wee bit rusty after ten? days off, so tonight`s match would`ve sharpened them up for the task on Friday.

Should`ve been at least another goal up in the first half, but second half Arbroath were better on the ball without threatening us all that much. They had the chance right at the start and the one near the end which the boy was about 5 yards offside. Tod unfortunate not to have scored from a couple of strong strikes.

Need to be more consistent on the ball throughout but defensively limited Arbroath to very little. That final ball at times is there for us to be ruthless, just making the wrong decision a little too often. You`ll take the lead up to Gayfield knowing if you get the first goal it`s a huge hill for them to climb.

Not a lot of quality on display, apart from Kane`s brilliant goal. On the whole we deserved our win, but that Arbroath side are a tough nut to crack, a team packed full of battlers. At times it looked to me like they were happy to take a narrow defeat into the home tie. I had hoped to have a couple of goals of a lead going into Friday`s match, but, when you think about it, they have to have a go at us now, and we have the players who can get at them on the break. I`d certainly rather be in our position than theirs

I may be wrong but I don`t think Charlie Gilmour conceded a foul in the game. That`s one way to avoid a booking although with that ref you could never be sure!

Merge the two threads and upgrade BigT`s yellae to a red for starting another thread. 😉

You`re forgetting the 1986 bit squire 😉 Don`t want to be mixed up with a wind up merchant 👍

Apologies, BigT, I did miss the 1986 bit - dottery auld fart that I am.

I said before the game that Arbroath would make things tough for us and that a 1 goal lead wouldn`t be a disaster and I`m sticking to that. I think we became very nervous in the second half. I don`t know if the anxiety came from the fans or the players initially, but it was certainly more palpable near the end.

Had Arbroath forced an equaliser, that would have been a disaster. As it is, I think we have a decent chance of going through. There`ll be no point in them wasting as much time as the ref let them away with last night.

We lacked real quality in the final third, with our midfield to forward play becoming almost non existent after going 1–0 up.

We seem to struggle against teams that are streetwise. I thought Arbroath were decent without causing us too many real problems that I can recall. They were well organised, knew the referee had lost control, and won plenty of soft fouls. Their work rate was also impressive.

I like Cooper, but when he came on last night, he didn’t provide the energy we needed after Morrison went off. He seems to struggle with consistency at times. He wasn`t brilliant on Friday night either.

Friday will be tough, but I’d much rather take a one goal advantage than go into it as a one game shootout.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

Looking back after last night a huge opportunity missed to kill the tie off early, Arbroath came with game plan and it worked we struggled at time to match the physically of them for large parts of the game. A great goal from the unsung hero of the season Chris Kane who really out and out has been our best attacking option. See a lot of heat on Callum Morrison last night which is a bit unfair i realize he did not have a great game but ran his socks off against a really big and physical defense tho i can fault his effectiveness i can’t fault the effort he brings. For me Andy Todd was a passenger this game and simple didn’t have the effort and physicality to compete in that game last night once Kane and Morrison stepped off the park you look to him to be the danger man but to me he hid and sadly at this time of the season it’s not the time to hide. For me id like to see a bit more pressure on Andy i know he’s young but he has proven he has the capability to perform at this level and needs to be a bit more effective in the areas that matter. Overall looking back not good not bad but it will do it’s a tough ask with a slender lead but a win is a must on Friday but if we are building a foundation for promotion these are the games we need to win i don’t know about anyone else but I’d much rather this team keeps playing and keeps performing right up to the final so we are as sharp as we can be. Friday will be interesting but to put it politely this is where we want and need to be as DAFC challenging and pushing for promotion with a cherry on top of a cup final against one of the ugly sisters

You can question Todd’s impact, or lack thereof on the game, but questioning his effort is bonkers.

Apart from the first sentence, I disagree with just about everything you’ve written.

Do you even know what an unsung hero is? How was Andrew Tod hiding?

Our defence was outstanding last night, and its them that gives me faith we`ll be able to get through this game.

I’d agree, our defence was strong last night. Arbroath played very well, which probably nullified much of what we tried to do. They looked good without creating any clear cut chances.

This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

They were happy with a 1 goal deficit, however a wee bit into the second half they smelled blood and had a bit more of a go.

I have to eat my previous words on Kane, i really do, he`s been managed and played very well, really sharp tonight.
I f the deal`s right for both parties is there another year in there?

I’d give him another year. In my view the best centre forward in the division.
