Surely if the manager and referee have history, they shouldn’t be assigned to a Dunfermline game? Especially when there isn’t even a full card of fixtures. Then again, I expect nothing less from the SFA.

A definitely penalty and booking for me last night. And if it wasn`t a penalty I can`t understand why it wasn`t a booking for simulation.
Ashcroft did enough for a red last night from my view cumulatively (appreciate it might not have happened if the correct early booking was given).

Whatever the `right` decision was giving a goal kick was absolutely the worst decision.
A clear, obvious, foul robbed us of a great attacking situation, and the result is thistle getting possession.

You would have thought for an important match like that the SFA would avoid appointing a referee who had `previous` with one of the clubs but I suppose that might imply that the officials weren`t up to standard so wouldn`t happen. Are our refs really as bad as we claim or is that just fans` bias?
I`m keen to see a replay of the Todd incident but so far the only highlights on the BBC Sport website are the goals and they miss the glorious crossfield pass which started the move for our goal.

It`s without doubt a foul at the very least and the legs tangle in the box as well. Ashcroft could`ve very easily been off the park in that game if we had a competent referee.
Nicolson has been abysmal every time I`ve seen him, for whatever reason he`s being labelled as an up and coming referee by the SFA. He`s utterly lost in these games and completely inconsistent as well.

as stated above he had "previous" with both where he didnt send off a st johnstone player for a forearm smash on a thistle player where he was subsequently banned by discuiplinary panel. His last match with us there was no "drama" in the 2-0 win at Ayr and awarded us a pen.

The MattyTodd incident was at least a free kick if not a penalty. We had scored from a similar move earlier so an obvious foul. Ashcroft should have been booked which would have changed his game approach.

A slippery slope, wee eck. While I agree that Nicholson was worse than useless, clubs cannot ever be allowed to influence the choice of referee for their games.

GG is correct - clubs will never be allowed to influence the selection of match referees.
Going back years Big Jock had a particularly strong aversion to Bobby Davidson - but no consideration was given to him not refereeing future Celtic games following the 1970 Scottish cup final which was the root cause of their bad relationship.

I know you weren`t suggesting that, but if those who appoint referees were to think e.g. We better not give Nicholson the Pars v Partick game because he and Neil Lennon fell out earlier this season, then that`s a club employee influencing what should be a random (arbitrary) decision...

The Calciopoli scandal in Serie A, which was uncovered in 2006, was basically exactly that. Two referee designators went along with the wishes of senior employees of several clubs, including Milan, Lazio and Juventus. The latter`s Mr Fixit, Luciano Moggi had the most evidence against him. He was suspended sine die. Juve were stripped of 2 titles and demoted to Serie B. The only major club not implicated in the scandal was Inter and they were awarded the 2006 Scudetto. It later turned out that the man who tapped into the mobile phones of the Fixits was an Inter fan and he hadn`t felt it was necessary to flag up Inter`s involvement, but by this time, it was too late to sanction the Milan club, as the statute of limitations had been exceeded.
Just a few weeks ago, the current referee designator, Gianluca Rocchi, an Inter fan, has suspended himself after allegations that he obliged his club by not assigning refs they don`t like. 🙄

I think it just highlighted the poor standard of refereeing across the board in the Scottish game. We’ve had a few “top flight” (in the loosest sense of the term) referees this season, and they were rank rotten.
Since VAR came into the top league, referees don’t seem willing to make the big calls themselves, and when they drop down to a level without VAR, they look incapable of making those big decisions.
This idiot surely has to undergo some sort of retraining, as he completely lost control and looked totally out of his depth. I agree with wee Eck and I actually posted before the game that it was bonkers someone Lenny had already had an issue with was handed such a massive game in the context of our season.
Considering it wasn’t a full card, there was no shortage of referees available to do the game. With Brother Beaton in the semi and this fool here, it really does seem like the powers that be will do anything to stop us causing a fixture nightmare.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.

^^^ agree until the final paragraph there’s a reason that everyone in Scotland can go oh all the refs are against us because it seems they all favour the old firm but at the same time the old firm thinks the ref favours the other one I don’t think it’s a case of favouring. I think it comes down to bad refs because there isn’t a single good one in Scotland at the highest level. They all seem to be taking the easiest option and going with the people that shout the loudest the worst thing that could have happened to us this week happened and that was a big controversial call in the big games because now our decision gets swept under the carpet and our ref now goes and refs Falkirk vs rangers
Also you say that Lennon has had problems with him I think Patrick arguably had the bigger problem with him that he didn’t send the guy off when they were playing st Johnstone
