Southampton have been removed from the the Championship play off final and Middlesbrough reinstated all because one of their employees filming Middlesbrough training.
It`s illegal to spy in the rules so they have nobody to blame but themselves but it`s highly unlikely that any player or fan new about it so you have to feel for them.
They`ve potentially cost themselves millions in what is regarded as the richest game in football because promotion to the EPL brings around 200 million to the club in tv revenue. They`ve also been deducted 4 points for next season.
Southampton have admitted to spying on other clubs during the season. Totally idiotic.
What can you really learn from spying? A couple of set piece routines that are difficult to pull off in an actual match. Was it worth it? Obviously not.
I feel for the players and fans but the higher ups that sent the spy should be banned from football. If the names come out they`ll be lucky not to be targeted from a crazed psychotic fan.
Crazy stuff.

I don`t see why Middlesbrough should be reinstated, other than the EFL get to cash in.

Brilliant decision, multiple charges of cheating proven. SFA/SPL could take a leaf out of the EFL, book regarding sporting integrity. UTB.

That`ll be quite an expenses claim being submitted from that Southampton employee.
Return train ticket, hotel stay and a £200million subby.

By that logic Southampton`s results over the season should be annulled and they should be relegated.
All the teams they beat in the FA cup should be reinstated too... As they also lost to a team that was cheating.
To be honest I`d be ok with that. It`s what should have happened with Rangers....

Strange logic IMO - it was Middlesbrough that were targeted for spy operations, more than once, so why should any other club(s) benefit ?

They broke the rules and got rumbled and should be punished.
Sending an intern to do your espionage? Seems they half-arsed it slightly.

they admitted 3 instances Ipswich/Oxford/Boro. They drew 2 and lost 1 of the 3 games.
If you are spaying against relegated oxford id guess your probably going to be doing it against Arsenal etc as well.

Was that the only 3 league games they didn`t win since the end of January.
Either their spy was shocking or I think that`s a fib!

Exactly - they`ve probably been doing it for every game. These are just the cases where they`ve been rumbled.

You have to wonder who authorised this and how many Southampton employees were complicit in it. I`m not sure how deeply today`s appeal proceedings will go into it. According to the BBC report the EFL can only take disciplinary action against clubs, it is up the Football Association to punish individuals so there is likely to be a bigger FA investigation once the appeals procedure is completed.

I would have thought that many Southampton fans would have booked transport and hotels in London for Saturday not all may be refundable. Will the club reimburse them.
Same with Middlesbrough fans it`s going to be tight for them to book and also try and get time off work if required.
Not great for the fan`s although no doubt Middlesbrough fans will take it.

It`s more likely they are the only clubs that don`t have a private, fenced-off training ground that there isn`t public access to.

Yeah. If he knew about it, it’s clearly a sacking offence as well as anyone else in the know.

I know it`s the rules, but used to always be the case, where clubs had people at training grounds. Watching.
Watch all the matches on tv, is it that different.
It`s gone mad!!

Yes, it is that different - recorded material can be watched repeatedly in detail, whereas observations by human eye are only retained in memory - and we all know how unreliable that soon becomes.

Why not make the effort to hire a better spy 🤔. There is an abundance of amazing tech theses days, spycams come in all shapes and sizes. A decent spy or private investigator could have went to the training ground in the middle of the night all camoed up and placed lots of tiny high grade cameras in secret areas. Tiny holes drilled into trees to fit tiny cams for example, microphones blended in to the goal posts to listen. Loads of places to hide cameras and mics, but no, they go with `obvious bloke holding an IPhone from half a mile away`😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣 😂. On top of that they`ve spied before and failed to win any of the games they admitted to.
They might get the point deduction removed at best but I honestly can`t see any part of the decision being changed. There is zero chance or reinstatement as that would be too cruel to Middlesbrough fans, giving them a second chance only to take it away the next day.
Southampton are going to be sued by everyone for compensation, Wrexham, maybe every other Championship side, their own players who`ve been denied a chance at promotion and huge pay rise. Maybe the fans even have a case against the club, I`m sure a good lawyer could come up with something for a class lawsuit action. Free season tickets for all this seasons tickets holders at the very least. It`s gonna get very ugly.
Wrexham are suggesting that the playoffs should be restarted with them taking the place of Southampton, that ain`t gonna happen. It wouldn`t be fair to Hull. If there was time I`d suggest a one off match between Wrexham and Middlesbrough but that wont happen either.
Hopefully Hull win the final so everyone can stop whinging.
