Head coach Arne Slot has been sacked by Liverpool after two seasons in charge.
The Dutchman, 47, guided the Reds to their 20th league title in his debut season but they have struggled during his second year, finishing fifth in the Premier League.
Recently departed Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the leading contender to replace Slot.
"That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and - most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves - successful," Liverpool`s owners Fenway Sports Group said in a statement.
"As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field.
"From the moment that we first encountered Arne, it was immediately clear that he is an individual who does not merely accept responsibility, he embraces it."

They won 12, drew 9 and lost 12 of the last 33 league games. They`re only in the Champions League because they managed to win their first 5 matches - and were lucky to do so in most of them.
They also spent a truck load of cash to improve the squad, from a position of strength as defending champions. The biggest surprise is that they didn`t line up Alonso to take over.

Had a surprisingly great season followed by a surprisingly bad season, hard to know if I rate Slot or not as a result.
Probably about right, as the problems Liverpool had at match one last season still existed at match 38. No hint of an improvement at all, or learning lessons is prob what led to the axe to fall

It`s hard not to jump to the conclusion that Liverpool sounded out Andoni Iraola, otherwise why would he leave the club that has just achieved the best season in its entire history and he was worshipped by everyone connected Bournemouth?

Tbf since the start of the season he wasn’t signing a new contract at Bournemouth I think he was more thinking of moving back to Spain especially with Real Madrid needing a new manager

Maybe so, but it would be quite arrogant of him to announce he was leaving and not having another job to go to. He actually comes across as a very humble and likeable man, as well as a shrewd manager. Surprised he`s not been linked with Man City.

It didn’t help that they caved in and gave new contracts to Virgil and Salah. Virgil made a number of errors this season and Salah is all about…Salah.
Losing Diaz was a blow and Isak has been a disaster. Did they really need him after signing Ekitike?
Wirtz has been another expensive flop.
The money hasn’t been spent wisely and it’s not all on Slot. What about the recruitment team and director of football etc ?
It`s bloody tough being a legend

Slot as manager won the league on the back of Klopp’s team but I am a fan of Liverpool and was irritated at the dismissal of the younger players that were coming through with Jürgen and cast aside.
Klopp was so eager to get them playing. He was the archetypal man manager so hard to replace but he tried to make it easier for Slot when he left.
It is never easy coming into that job as Davie Moyes found out at Man Utd and fans are forgiving so long as they see a long term plan but Liverpool have stalled.
I would dearly welcome Unai Emery to the job.
