 International manager requirements

Controversial opinion time...

All international managers should have to meet the same eligibility criteria that players do (ie. You need to have nationality of the country, etc)

Thoughts?

Nah because then all your smallest nations wouldn’t have a team at all most of the time the smallest nations get a different country manager to actually build up the football in that country

I suspect that could be challenged legally - along the same broad issues as the Bosman ruling ?

Yeah - not for me. Doesn`t seem to be a big problem.

Although, I believe the (mens) world cup has only ever been won by `homegrown` coaches. Not sure about the womens.

Nah, best man for the job, gets the job. England really needs help 😂

How many English managers have won the Premier League since its conception in the 90s?

Why would it be acceptable to impose citizenship criteria on players, but not managers? Surely fifa could turn round and say they`re imposing a new rule to align players and managers? Hypothetically

England are actually quite bad at producing top class managers. It`s quite strange

It would be too easy to get round. The "manager" would just become a spokesman while the actual work will be done by a foreign "advisor".

Discrimination on grounds of race, colour and creed etc. ?

I doubt FIFA would have the authority to impose rules that contravene basic fundamental national employment legislation - football is not a special case.

That apart, why would they want to do so ?

I`m with you BouncyPar, it would be something that I would personally like to see. International sport is unique and discriminatory by it`s sheer nature anyway. Why should managers be of a different criteria as players?

As a Scotland regular, I would rather have a Steve Clarke, Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish, Water Smith in the dugout rather than Berti Vogts personally. Maybe I`m old fashioned, but International Sport is the only time where you can celebrate your own nation and culture, I would rather that was fronted by a Scot.
