Controversial opinion time...
All international managers should have to meet the same eligibility criteria that players do (ie. You need to have nationality of the country, etc)
Thoughts?

Nah because then all your smallest nations wouldn’t have a team at all most of the time the smallest nations get a different country manager to actually build up the football in that country

I suspect that could be challenged legally - along the same broad issues as the Bosman ruling ?

Yeah - not for me. Doesn`t seem to be a big problem.
Although, I believe the (mens) world cup has only ever been won by `homegrown` coaches. Not sure about the womens.

Nah, best man for the job, gets the job. England really needs help 😂
How many English managers have won the Premier League since its conception in the 90s?

Why would it be acceptable to impose citizenship criteria on players, but not managers? Surely fifa could turn round and say they`re imposing a new rule to align players and managers? Hypothetically

England are actually quite bad at producing top class managers. It`s quite strange

It would be too easy to get round. The "manager" would just become a spokesman while the actual work will be done by a foreign "advisor".

Discrimination on grounds of race, colour and creed etc. ?
I doubt FIFA would have the authority to impose rules that contravene basic fundamental national employment legislation - football is not a special case.
That apart, why would they want to do so ?

I`m with you BouncyPar, it would be something that I would personally like to see. International sport is unique and discriminatory by it`s sheer nature anyway. Why should managers be of a different criteria as players?
As a Scotland regular, I would rather have a Steve Clarke, Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish, Water Smith in the dugout rather than Berti Vogts personally. Maybe I`m old fashioned, but International Sport is the only time where you can celebrate your own nation and culture, I would rather that was fronted by a Scot.

It`s nothing at all to do with race, creed or colour. Xenophobic perhaps, at a stretch, but not any of your examples.
Employment laws wouldn`t come into it any more so than for the players.

Non playing personnel are employed on salary - to deny them a job because they weren`t citizens of the country they work for is just as discriminatory as not doing so for the other criteria quoted above.

Yeah, you are right but that could easily be countered by making the role a non-salaried. I'm not sure where the line is crossed with players tho, as they are paid to represent their country, so I'm unsure why a similar position couldn't be open for the manager.
The question isn`t about if it could be done, but rather would you want it to be done, hypothetically.
If my keeper, outfield players and subs all have to have a Scottish connection and interest, then it makes sense in my wee head that so should the manager.
I think when it comes to representing your country, that should include the manager

Non salaried manager/coach - I don`t see that working in the real world.
Should the national team managerial position be restricted to a Scot ?
No - employ the best available, regardless of where born or parentage.

Berti Vogts got us closer to a major tournament than Strachan did…..

I know, and I some times feel he gets unfairly hounded over the years. I was referring to my preference rather than their managerial ability

Bertie was definitely unfairly hounded imo.
Craig Brown left him a severely depleted squad after France ‘98
Young players weren’t given a chance to integrate with the older players on his way out and they subsequently retired.
It was a near miracle we nearly qualified for the next tournament with what we had to offer.
For a while I’ve thought Clarke was going to do similar to Brown tbh but he’s shown in recent times, he’s willing to blood young talent for the future and while many will retire after the World Cup, these new generations will have that experience denied to Bertie Vogts.
