McKenna has been ruled out. He would have started. Could be Souttar and Hanley then in defense or maybe one of them and Hendry ?
Gunn
Hickey
Souttar
Hendry
Robertson
Ferguson
Gannon-Doak
McGinn
McTomminay
Adam’s
Shankland
Probably the starting line up
What an opportunity we missed in 2014.

Your team is what I`d expect. I really hope Clarke continues with the front 2.
McKenna is a big loss as he`s quite quick.
Hopefully Haiti don`t have a lot of pace up front as I could see us having more possession but Hanley/Souttar being caught on the break.

Gunn
Hickey
Hendry
Souttar
Robertson
Gannon-Doak
McTominay
Christie
McGinn
Shankland
Adams
Thats how Id like us to line up. Christie sitting in front of back 4 and allowing McTominay free rein.
He has to go 2 up top no matter what. This is a game we should be looking to bang in 3-4 goals from if we are going to progress on just 3 points. The next 2 fixtures will be much tougher.

The embarrassment and ridicule should we not win this game will be off the scale. Failure is not an option but if we do should result in Clarke getting punted on landing at Glasgow airport in a few weeks.
McGinn has to start, he`s simply one of our best players.

I’ve been surprised to hear a few pundits (including his own brother) say on the radio that 2 up front could see him miss out. Stephen McGinn did stress that it was only his opinion and he hadn’t heard that from John.

Jony Placide (Haiti GK and captain) was Oldham Athletic goalie 2017/18.
He was absolutely terrible.
A running joke at the time on twitter was how many times the official Latics twitter account during a game would quote "The game has stopped due to Placide receiving treatment".
He`s 38 now. Shoot at him on sight, they`ll go in.

The lowest quality game of the tournament so far. Aye we`re getting the result as it stands but we`ve been poor. I don`t understand why, with players who play club football at such a high level, we have to resort to continually punting it long and quite often aimlessly. We can`t afford not to win this but we probably need to win it by two or maybe three to have a real chance of progression and that sort of final score is looking very unlikely at the moment.

I think we need to play more joined up football - move the ball quicker - not side to side and backwards, but get groups of players working forward and staying connected. Was that Willie Miller saying maybe we need an extra man in midfield? I think we could with an old-fashioned centre half.

Take the win and run. Hope for much better performance in next game or we’re potentially looking at 2 gubbings.

An important win, poor performance (especially second half). Hopefully that releases some pressure and we might be better suited to counter attacking against Brazil and Morocco. That said, the fear is we sit deep and our timid in our pressing and we get picked apart easily by high quality teams, like the Germans did to use at the Euros. It was really easy for Haiti to get the ball deep in to our half with how narrow we were, they didn`t need to work hard or take any risks to pin us back. Surely 5 in midfield for the next 2 games, but there has to be more aggression to press the ball a bit higher and there has to be more courage, directness and forward thinking in possession. We looked decent in the first 30 minutes at times when we played the ball forward at some pace, give it a try!

It was a tough watch. Some top level players making really basic passing errors. That pass completion stat is a shocker at this level.
Haiti had the better of it and will be disappointed not to take something from the game. They`ll be disappointed by their final ball.
Pleased to take something from it but things need to improve massively to have a hope of getting anything out of the next two. I`m not convinced just having 3 points will be enough.

Alot of pressure on the players after 28 years out of the competition, but also to win the game. There are no easy teams at this level. The players got the victory and handled the pressure. Sometimes you can only play as well as the other side lets you. A demonstration of an outstanding level of professionalism both mentally and technically.

Had we played as we had done in the first half for the remainder of the game, I would have been angry and disappointed.
We made a fist of it in the second half and played well.
We still lost, but I left the game knowing the better team had won, but we had given a good account of ourselves.

Shouldn`t really be a surprise tbh - we were terrible in most of the qualifiers but somehow managed to get the results. Very similar last night.
We also struggled 11 v 11 against Curacao recently, remember.
However, after many WC disasters in the past, I`ll absolutely take the result, in the hope that we will perform better against 2 very tough sides and for once, build on a positive result, if not performance.
Heading out on Wednesday - pleased I`m going on the back of a very welcome WC win - I`d bite your hand off for at least a draw on Friday now 😎🏴🏆👏🏼

When it comes to Scotland in WC tournaments I`m a bit of a pragmatist. I think the commentator said that was only our 5th win at the WC finals in 30-odd attempts. That includes failures against teams like Costa Rica and Iran and involved squads with much more talented players than the current one, so I`ll take a scrappy 1-0 win against a team ranked much lower than us all day long. Haiti were a much better team than Qatar who salvaged a late draw against Switzerland yesterday.
The games against Morocco and Brazil will be very different tests and Steve Clarke will plan accordingly. He`ll probably play with one striker and no doubt be criticised for it. We seem to perform better as underdogs and I think maybe a lot of fans prefer us in that role.

The pressure on them is not any different to any other national team surely. We were really lucky Haiti are such a limited side . Not too different from Curacau and Bolivia. But we choked on the pressure here . Shankland , Hickey and Robertson had poor games. 442 didn’t work imo. Hope we change back to one up top.
Even then Mctominay was very unlucky to hit the post and McGinn missed that sitter too. All in all we still deserved to win and will need one more point by hook or by crook.

I think Haiti`s ranking is heavily influenced by the fact they dont have home games, they are no way 80 - ish. The way McGinn was talking it sounds like the players were putting too much pressure on themselves, I think only Gunn reflected on how they actually played. Far too passive, no aggression, too quick to give the ball away. Its been that way under Clarke for a long time now but we often get the result.
Morocco have good players but I dont feel they are as good as their ranking, same with Brazil. We can definitely get a point there somewhere playing as underdog

Need a win. Got a win.
I get some folk insist on total domination and the perfect performance (even though they only ever played Saturday amateur fitba themselves!) but why can`t we just bask in a victory for once.
We`re a small, relatively unsuccessful footballing nation in the grand scheme of things, just enjoy it for a few days. There are MILLIONS of fitba fans around the world who wish they were us today!

We are not a team who is going to score 3 or 4 goals in a world cup game against anyone. The focus is a victory. 1-0 is all it takes.

I didn`t think a Scotland win could make me feel so bad.
I`m not bothered about the score, I`d be happy with any kind of win.
But we stank the place out again.

Again? We haven`t been at the WC finals since 1998. Did you miss that?

This is the VEE cup final glitch transposed isn`t it?

You really need to lighten up.
3 points. First WC win for 36 years. One point from the final 2 games guarantees qualification.
Glass half full and all that.

I`m pretty confident we are going to qualify.
But we all know we are going home if they bottle it like that in the next two games.

Agreed. It`s a pity too.
I`m sure he has something good to offer but I rarely have a clue what he is talking about.
I think some posters come here to entertain themselves.

It’s great to win and get the 3 points, it’s the best start we could have hoped for.
Doesn’t mean we played well though, and we will seriously need to up our game for the next two games. They had chances, we got away with them not being good in front of goal.
We could easily go out on GD despite having 3 points, so lets go get a point from Morocco to shore it up.

He`s just a bit grumpy after being up in the wee hours to watch that game.
Normal service will be resumed tomorrow.

Wasn’t that a club reference to 1968 - not sure what the significance is reference the national side 30 years down the road ?

Knowing the games we are going into, a 2/3 goal victory would’ve been what we were looking for, getting a bit of a goal difference to take a dent into when we inevitably let in some goals.
We were too respectful and wary of their counter attack rather than focus on the problems we can pose.
Doesn’t help that McGinn and McTominay didn’t have great games and players like Shankland were ineffective.
Think it will be very close whether we qualify for next round.

Yep, I agree with you Berry. Suspect we`ll struggle to be one of the best 3rd placed teams now, unfortunately. But I hope I am very wrong.

Aren`t there a few groups where 3rd and 4th could each end up with 1 point? We haven`t completed the first round of fixtures yet so there are a lot of variables.
